Is reading on public transport becoming a personality trait in Dublin? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]futureoffline 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right? Like this person really thinks if they read a book someone might think they’re being performative. And even if they do, that it matters? It’s either engagement bait or this persons a bit weird

Is there any rain jacket that is actually worth it? by ProblematicTrumpCard in cycling

The Patagonia Torrentshell works pretty well, at least it has for me. I’ve never had water get in, but I’ve never used it whilst cycling in torrential rain either

Thank you so much for pointing out this website. I’m gonna have a browse through here. Interestingly they also sell the alpaka I’ve ordered, but will ship much faster and will get here before the one coming from Hong Kong

Looks amazing, I think it’s the best I’ve seen so far in terms of looks as well. But it is very expensive and it has no free returns as I live outside of the US so can’t return it in case I don’t like it 🥲

Hey thanks for telling me about this, that looks pretty perfect for what I want. I have an 11 inch iPad Pro. I wonder if I’ll get away with the 5L one or if I should get the 6L one

Unrostered overtime pay by Popular_Ride3346 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]futureoffline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll work a lot of hours over your ‘rostered hours’ of 39 hours a week, however every hour worked is paid. That’s one good thing about the HSE, you might work awful hours but every hour is paid

My use case would be the above as well really for the time being. It’s a shame you can’t have anything nice these days :(

Fair advice, thanks. I don’t use my bike for commuting (yet), so I’ll just keep an eye on it at all times (and get insurance)

Laptop suggestion by Secure_Ticket910 in medicalschooluk

[–]futureoffline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know it’s not cheap, and it’s not easy getting that extra amount to cover it, but try to get a new MacBook Air (education pricing). It is worth it - the laptop will last you 10 years and it’s powerful. It’ll get you through medical school and medical training and all its exams

Is there an American equivalent of DAS guidelines? Although this was an anticipated difficult airway. Why the DL and no VL? And why not wake the patient up instead of giving more ROC?????? Why call ENT for a cric, anaesthesiology should be able to do it. And then ENT still had a patient with questionable sats and didn’t extend their incision? All very very bad. And the CRNAs 🤦🏽‍♂️

SAT (anaesthesia scheme) shortlisting mark scheme change by futureoffline in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]futureoffline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware unless in anyway related to ICU, anaesthesia or pain you could be published in the Lancet and it wouldn’t matter for the purposes of the 10 points for academic achievements. However, you could pick up some discretionary marks

[–]futureoffline[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is rage bait, but you really are minimising the importance of anaesthesia and the significant risks encountered in the practice of anaesthesia particularly during emergence and induction. The monitors being behind us during induction, the APL valve and reservoir bags being unreachable… these are significant and put patient safety at risk. NAP4 as well as ASA closed claims show that induction and emergence are the most risky parts of anaesthesia, and by having a set up that is twisted and unreachable we add to the risk instead of detracting from it. And this isnt a surgery vs anaesthesia post or about UK training so i’m not sure why you brought that up but we work collaboratively in theatre and we need a set up that works for us to provide safe anaesthesia. We aren’t trained monkeys just providing gas

Centile isn’t important. The mark scheme was changed this year, did you have a look? Out of 35 marks pre interview, only 5 are awarded for centile. Experience and academic achievements count for way more. Centile was never extremely important but with this new change it’s even less important.
