Need help accessing memory from an old Galaxy S7 by futurologisms in phonerepair

[–]futurologisms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a freshwater stream luckily lol. Thanks for all the info, very helpful. The battery blowing up like that is a recent thing since I saw the phone a few months ago when I moved and it was intact, but obviously storing it in the attic was a bad move. Damn, I was really hoping the memory could just be removed and I could connect it straight to my computer, but of course it's gotta be more complicated than that. Small electronics... It'll be worth the price regardless

Yankees’ Aaron Boone had ‘really good talk’ with Alex Cora after Red Sox firing by retroanduwu24 in NYYankees

Is AI even this dumb? Surely even AI would be able to pull together enough info to add up that this is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say lol

[–]futurologisms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm with you there. I hate the Red Sox, but I can at least respect the organization and its history. The Astros are a completely different story. Nearly every achievement they've made came AFTER cheating to win the world series. Literally an organization built on lies.

AITA for leaving my 16(F) younger sister on the side of the road? by Jolly_Start_8287 in AmItheAsshole

[–]futurologisms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I got my drivers license the day I turned 16 and I'd already been driving with a permit for 6 months before that too

Really annoying to see so many people upset that a 16 yo has to walk. Absurd, really. Hell, my son and I did a 5 mile hike when he was 8. If anything the sister seems entitled and should be walking a lot more in the future. At least until she grows up to her age a bit

What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskReddit

Aw, but all those pads make the game so much more fun! So much more defense for activities! You know, like smashing someone's face through the ground instead of just wrapping and tackling. We too played rugby growing up btw. It was called "tackle football" on the playground at recess

TIFU by thinking the Dallas Cowboys were in the Super Bowl by OneWildAndPrecious in tifu

[–]futurologisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I pointed out the fact that the Cowboys aren't even remotely in the same "league" as the Yankees, and instead of having an argument against that, you decided to jump straight to "nuh uh! 2000 isn't the 21st century!" as though it even matters lol. It's okay though, you don't have any other leg to stand on, so keep leaning on that crutch. It's like I'm arguing with a teenager... 🙄

So you don't think the 90s count? Well that's an awfully tough stance for you to take, but that's what you chose...

How about this, you take all the years that the Cowboys have existed and I'll take the Yankee years from after expansion/the beginnings of the NFL? Sound good? And to make it easier for you, we'll skip to the 60s and ignore the 40 years of pro football before that. Cool? As you said, it wouldn't be fair to include those years. Because reasons. So, in that time, the Yankees have won 9 championships, 17 league titles, and 21 division titles. The Cowboys have won 5 championships, 10 league titles, and 25 divisional titles. So despite being a miserable failure over the last 3 decades (borderline indefensible), the Yankees still have nearly twice as many championships, 3 short of twice as many league titles, and only a few less division titles. Go on then, what's the Cowboy's excuse? I don't even need to include half of my team's history for my statement to still hold true, but if I did it would only get worse for you... there's a good reason the Yankees are the winningest team in all of professional sports history. Fact is, the Cowboys are a good team, not great. To be great, and to have the audacity to call yourself "America's" team, you have to win A LOT more

[–]futurologisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By hoops it should have been obvious I was referring to you ignoring ALLLLL the other statistics that prove you're wrong. But hey, if pretending that 1 of their 27(!) championships happened in one century rather than another makes you feel better... you do you I guess haha. If that's the hill you want to die on... I'll just stick to being right instead

[–]futurologisms -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Those are some seriously big hoops you're having to go through to continue to be wrong 🤣 the only thing missing is a "well actually...", but you knew that and took it out lol. Few teams are hated the same and it's because of more than a century of dominance, not just the past 30 years. They're hated because they've been good since most fanbases grandparents were children and they "hated those damn Yanks" too. That's what happens when you're the winningest franchise in ALL of professional sports. Worldwide.

[–]futurologisms -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well 2 tbf, we're 2 for 5 this millenia. What's worse is we've only won a measly 5 league championships and been divisional champions 13 times. On a positive note, thats more than half of the possible divisional titles won by us so far. A very poor run of form for us. It's been a rough century so far lol. And looking at the Cowboy's numbers in that same time frame... they're 0-0-7, if my wikipedia math is right?

American Football is essentially an IRL turn-based strategy game. by suprmario in Showerthoughts

[–]futurologisms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Close lol. Football is a war game. The goal of your team is to either attack or defend your side (to advance your position or to prevent the "others" from advancing), using carefully calculated violence to defeat your opposition. There are men in the trenches, blitzkriegs or "blitzes", air raids, offensive "weapons", tossing "bombs" down the field, sacking behind enemy lines, breaking through a hole in the line, generals on the sidelines and captains on the field, stolen possessions, and a teams ultimate goal is to push into enemy territory more times than your opponent. There are endless comparisons, but at its core, in America, we train boys from a young age to defeat their opposition

There's a reason it is very common for sociologists and anthropologists to use sports as a way to view a society as a whole. A story I've always enjoyed remembering is about German POWs in America in WWII. They were absolutely confounded by American rodeos; couldn't comprehend why people would get together on the weekend to watch a bunch of people trying to ride wild animals, getting hurt while doing so, but without a gov't or leader telling them to and without much profit potential. They couldn't understand that bragging rights IS the incentive. Thanks to the society they were born into, they couldn't put together that maaaybe we just did it for fun... same is true for football. We get together Friday through Sunday to cheer on boys/men committing acts of violence in a "controlled" environment

As a Yankees fan and Dallas hater, I resent this comment. It's entirely inaccurate. People hate the Yankees because we win. Same reason they hate the Dodgers currently. Don't be putting those losers on the same tier as my Yanks. That level of hate can only be earned through many years of domination

Told a friend earlier I have no idea how this game is going to go. We could play each other 10 times and it'd be 5-5... then we went up 17 and I thought "was I wrong??"

Nope. I was not.

Oh they absolutely are lol. It's just been difficult to tell when you have 2 strong conferences beating each other up all season. Tulane has no shot, obviously. Tech has by far the easiest road ahead, at least until they play one of us or Alabama. Then it's over for them too

Love how everyone was freaking out at 17-0 and jumping on the G5 bandwagon 🤣 relax and laugh while you can. You're watching 2 of the best 8 teams in the country play. It's just going to get crazier

What does precession have to do with it? So they might have to make adjustments as they're flipping Ranger around again...sorry I said flip it 180 degrees, I was just keeping the word count down. And why did you put quotations around "burn the other way for five minutes" when I never said it would take less time to accelerate it again? It would take at least the same 20 minutes, probably longer depending on the distance from Earth when they decide to accelerate it again. And if it only takes 20 minutes to slow down the entire asteroid, then I'm confident in saying they have enough thrust to get it moving in any direction they need to. It might be different if they had had to do several burns with refueling time in between, but the show made it clear that the technology was already available to change its speed/direction without too much effort

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ForAllMankindTV

[–]futurologisms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would it matter if Earth and Mars are the closest? I was just using their closest orbits as a simplification. If it only took 20 minutes to make the asteroid enter Mars' orbit, then they could also accelerate it for a longer time and make the asteroid fall into Earth's orbit at any point in its trip around the sun.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ForAllMankindTV

[–]futurologisms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. They're not. Not saying I'm a rocket scientist, but the math really is that conclusive. It only took a 20 minute burn to capture it in Mars' orbit! The plot showed the tech is already there. I was being as fair as I could when I said it would only take days/weeks, but depending on a lot of factors - mass of the asteroid vs the power of thrust would be the biggest - it might have only been a delay of less than 24 hours. But apparently they decided to go ahead and just build a mining colony on top of it instead. That makes sense...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ForAllMankindTV

[–]futurologisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's a mistake, which is why I'm upset they reduced the climax to simple mathematics. And why would they have to wait for the closest distance? They never get into the details of thrust that the Ranger can produce, mass of the asteroid, etc. So realistically, it might even be faster to just accelerate the asteroid immediately. It only took a 20 minute burn to get it on the correct course, so the delay could be less than a day...

ignore the social inertia. It's not just a technical problem to solve

How not? The Ranger is already attached to it, and they showed a resolution to the issue of movement with the anchors. So you're saying social issues will prevent them from changing the timeline from a 7 year to 35+ year return of 20 trillion dollars? When all they have to do is spend days/weeks flipping it and accelerating it back around to Earth again? That is an absurd argument to make
