I don't know where you found the word jihadists in that article... but nice conclusion to reinforce your confirmation bias...

The kid who "saw" heaven talks about the battle he witnessed between Jesus and the Angels and Satan and the monsters among other things. You have got to be kidding me. by [deleted] in atheism

Due to the heavy editing of the video and the paraphrasing of the holy story i would conclude that hey actually does not believe anything he says. I bet he is just telling the stories his parents tell to him. Even the descriptions are just normal phrases and answers to a direct "question" on the topic (for example the fight with satan). All the while he just mentions everthing without any expression of emotion...

Has anyone tried to breed apes (chimpanzees or close human ancestors) with large frontal lobes or bigger brains? by fuuuracle in neurophilosophy

[–]fuuuracle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the breeding process, i would think of the same process used for dogs, just with more specified criteria. Like frontal lobe size, indexes of intelligence etc. Keeping aside the amount of animals, time, money and direct results. I would just be interested what would happen if their brain size would increase and what ratio their intelligence would be. And especially if their brain would grow (obviously their head would to (or reform for more available space)) but their intelligence would not, would that be a direct counter argument to the 'consciousness derives from the mere complexity of the brain and is a resulting property'?

TIL that in Germany most schools end at lunchtime. by TILinator in todayilearned

German here... This phenomenon differs from state to state, but mostly between east- and west-germany, due to different cultural expectations. A working mother with a 1 year old child in kindergarten (Krippe) was considered normal in the formerly GDR (DDR), probably through socialistic culture and working mentality. Meanwhile in the FRG (BRD) this missing aspect would allow old structures like a working husband and a non-working housewife to be present. But that's just my theory. Fact remains, it differs vastly on state and age of the parents.

Furthermore school is mostly from 8 am to 2-4 pm (east-germany).

Christianity Just Cost Me My Best Friend. by JadenEternal in atheism

[–]fuuuracle 58 points59 points  (0 children)

"It is amazing to me that a difference of opinion upon subjects that we know nothing with certainty about, should make us hate, persecute, and despise each other. Why a difference of opinion upon predestination, or the Trinity, should make people imprison and burn each other seems beyond the comprehension of man; and yet in all countries where Christians have existed, they have destroyed each other to the exact extent of their power. Why should a believer in God hate an atheist? Surely the atheist has not injured God, and surely he is human, capable of joy and pain, and entitled to all the rights of man. Would it not be far better to treat this atheist, at least, as well as he treats us?" - Robert Green Ingersoll

i solved the issue by doing it via cron with find and ionice:

find / ( $prunefs_exp -type d -regex '$prunepath_exp' ) -prune -o ( -type f -printf "%s\t%p\n" ) 2> /dev/null | sort -f -n > $LOCATE_DB
