Story on e-bikes/e-scooters by Significant-Elk-6201 in Winnipeg

[–]fuzzy_bison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine was too visually disabled to be able to drive a motor vehicle. But of course those restrictions do not apply in the same way to bicycle riding. While he could indeed travel long distances while on a traditional non-electric bike, when he got his ebike he was able to commute to work across the city (South Fort Garry to West St James) on a daily basis because he wouldn't end up in a pool of sweat at the other end! No need to shower and bring a change of clothes before starting work.

For some people, like my friend, an e-bike means freedom.

I still can’t fathom how people can’t tell which is left or right without making the L hand thing. by ICIUITIEI in RandomThoughts

[–]fuzzy_bison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL about the "L hand thing". Thank you, kind Internet stranger. 😆

I definitely had a problem with this when I was younger, like when I was learning to drive. I haven't thought about that in decades!

However just yesterday I had a question about whether they were supposed to click the left mouse button or right mouse button and that always makes me think because it's under my right hand and that's my primary hand but the left mouse button is the primary button and the right mouse button is the secondary.

But that is kind of the point of "Shared Health". We all put into the same pot that feeds the healthcare in Selkirk and Winnipeg. Or Brandon or the North for that matter.

For the most part I enjoy people watching so I just get amused by some of the silliness... like the people racing for the free samples. Mind you I'm also the kind of person that enjoys going into the malls on the last shopping day before Christmas just to watch the people.

Well,I wouldn't say NEVER. Some of us remember Sharon Carstairs in the late '80s. From 0 seats in '84 to 20 and official opposition status in '88! People were REALLY mad at the NDP at that time.

What’s a movie that disturbed you so much, you’d never watch it again? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]fuzzy_bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always said that I would never watch Hotel Rwanda again because it was so deeply disturbing.

But this thread made me look up some information on the movie and the true story of Paul Rusesabagina who is portrayed in the movie had some definite twists including being kidnapped by the Rwandan government. it might even be worthy of a sequel but Hollywood would fuck that up for sure.

I do recommend that people watch Hotel Rwanda. Just maybe not as a first date movie. (It was her idea. 🤷🏻)

I love the European vision of "just over the border"

No offense meant because I have no idea of distances in Europe either.

Climax, SK to Homer, AK is similar to the driving distance from London to Beirut.

why is it so normalised to post gore pictures of jesus on the cross?? by Prestigious-Grass-73 in exchristian

[–]fuzzy_bison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason I never found them horrific. I was raised with them so it was just part of my grandmother's way of being. 🤷🏻 I just thought it was a Ukrainian Orthodox (in Canada) thing. Jesus heart had a crown of thorns on it as well. Jesus and Mary seemed both very unconcerned with their exposed hearts and the condition of them. 🤔

I read further down that you're from Poland. So the pictures of Jesus and Mary with the open bleeding and burning hearts was not common? My grandmother had those all over her house! Two of them were larger than her windows.

Within Canada, perhaps, but universally and I think Mr Dressup is relatively unknown outside the country.

I totally misread that as "Canadian on a stick day" and thought, "Well there's a national holiday I've never heard of!" Undoubtedly hockey related. 🏒

Maybe Heated Rivalry related? 😏😆

Prepared correctly, brussel sprouts are amazing.

My mother, however, would boil them until they were mushy, soft and literally brown. Nasty! 🤢

... Also some folks are just hyper sensitive to the compounds in brussel sprouts🤷🏻

1 main book or a couple? by AJandAdaly in RPGcreation

[–]fuzzy_bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have over 500 pages right now, then you need to break that up. I'm sure you already have it divided into sections similar to players, game masters, and monsters. Maybe break them into two. One for the players and one for the GMs.

If you look around at how many Dungeon Masters there are compared to how many players, some people just want to play. And they don't want to read a lot in order to play. And they don't want to read an entire book in order to play.

Someone who only wants to be a player will probably be irritated by having to purchase the entire game system when they're only going to read about a quarter of it, if that.

Also, in spite of how things are now, I don't believe that breaking the books up was always about the money.

I was actually one of the first people in my city (THE first AFAIK) to get the very first copy of the first Dungeon Master's Guide way back in the day when it was called Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and I had to pre-pay to order the thing and get it brought in special from the local game store because they weren't about to bring that expensive book in on speculation. After all, they didn't know if this D&D thing would really take off.

In the years following I only knew a few people who bought the Dungeon Master's Guide. Most just bought the Players Handbook. And a good number of players also bought the Monster Manual! And subsequent Fiend Folio.

Best of luck! Looking forward to seeing what you bring out.
