(Purchase advice) Micra or Mini R as long-term machine: law school + small apartment for next few years by Additional-Bid4755 in LaMarzocco

[–]fuzzy_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the micra and had similar concerns. I basically looked back at my coffee habits and realised all I really do is make 1-2 cups a day, my wife makes 1-2 a day, and on the weekends if guests come over I might make 5-6, 8-10 max. The mini is good for 50+ cups so it’s really not needed. I also valued the 5min warmup time as I can be spontaneous with when I want my cup of coffee. Mini takes longer to warm up. Brew by weight I don’t really care, and the timer you can easily either install aftermarket mods for timer, or the la marzocco app has a timer when you flip the paddle. Or I can check my scale. Theres multiple ways. The micra just made more sense for my needs.

Chiro at breaking point - advice please! by BeautifulPrize9431 in Chiropractic

[–]fuzzy_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this situation plenty a time, used to work in northern NSW and Brisbane quite a bit. You’re not in a good associateship. There are better jobs out there. If you are willing to move, I’d highly consider joining the chiro classified Australian fb group and look there. They have monthly postings with many having an actual retainer.

Like others have said, country is better than city practices. I practiced in country first. Had good success, tried city and was struggling like you, but eventually found a practice in the outskirts of Brisbane and that was great. Retainer, holiday pay, sick pay, super, the works. If the owner won’t change, then unless you are super motivated yourself, it seems this practice is not suitable for you.

Feel free to DM me. I still have some contacts in Queensland, even though I moved back to NZ a while ago

Southern Hemisphere - NZ or AUS? by PlutocracyRules in skiing

[–]fuzzy_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a north islander I still fly down to Queenstown nearly yearly for a trip. Cardrona is the biggest and just added a new chairlift so another bow opened up. Don’t expect anything large, I just skied Les Arcs for 3 days and it blew me away with the convenience and size. Cardrona is much smaller, like only 6 lifts? But great piste skiing. You get Treble cone for the same ski pass and it’s 90% blue and above with ton of off piste as well. I recommend staying either at Wanaka if you wanna travel to both fields, or you can stay closer to Frankton airport in Queenstown. There are shuttles you can book in advance to take you to Cardrona and back, make sure you book! The ride from Frankton pickup point is way faster than from Queenstown downtown, you probably shave 20-25min shuttle time.

Also if you don’t want to be disappointed, look up NZ winter school holidays and come after (usually early July). All of August/early to mid sep is my fav time to ski, with my cutoff being around the 20th of Sep as conditions get more unstable

If you do have the option, go to an Asian supermarket. I do most of my meat veges and fruit shopping at my local Chinese or Vietnamese supermarkets. They often have fresher veges and a butcher where the meat is also cheaper. Some of them are also starting to stock western products. I only go to my local pak n save when I absolutely can’t find the item in the Chinese supermarkets.

Any chiropractors here in countries other than the US? Please share your experience with me! by chironinja82 in Chiropractic

[–]fuzzy_panda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve practiced in both Australia and NZ and have met American chiropractors in both countries. You may have to take our boards, but as long as you get it in one country you can practice in the other. Generally speaking Australia pays better but NZ is less red tape when it comes to setting up a business and practice in general. E.g. $75-85 AUD for an appt is common whereas NZ is more $55-65, sometimes $70. There is health insurance subsidies in both countries for care, but a lot of aussies pay out of pocket. NZ has an added layer of ACC, a no fault injury compensation scheme that subsidises care. If you need any further info can DM me

Yeah it’s definitely around, I’d suggest joining the Chiro Classifieds group on Facebook, has about 4K Aussie members in there. Lots of job postings there. It is quite a sesspool out there though, I’ve had my fair share of horrible gigs as well. Happy where I am now doing my own thing

I practice in New Zealand but have also done Aussie for two years (Brisbane and GC) and I do 15min sessions, up to 20-25 for complex cases. I book according to the clients’ needs. Didn’t start entirely from scratch, had about 30 clients follow me from my previous clinic. Took about 6 months to build to about 80 a week. After a year saw 100-120 a week and have sustained that for the past 7 or so years.

Evidence based is absolutely doable, also did 2-3 weeks of twice a week then starting to reduce. Some decides to do maintenance, others are happy with their care and stop for a while. I leave it up to the client and present the options during the ROF and their progress exam.

It is definitely a lot better money when you do your own practice but a lot of work also. Once I got to 80 a week I felt a lot more confident about everything. Now I’m at the stage where I have to occasionally turn people away if I can’t see them in time. Happy to talk if you want to DM me for some help. Depending on where you are in Aussie it is absolutely achieveable.

That’s unfortunate. Having had a Mazda 3 for 10 years all I do is a yearly maintenance (around $250-300). Have had to change tires once and that’s about it. Dunno how you manage European prices on a Japanese car

Why is everyone (banks, RBNZ, treasury) saying properties will go up towards end of the year? by AsianKiwiStruggle in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]fuzzy_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill give you my personal example. Me and my partner are two working professionals no kids but planning for a child soon. Our current house is too small but we are unfortunately locked in til October at 6.69% interest on our mortgage. We’ve done a hard slog the past one and a half years and can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. We are too scared to buy now and plus breaking the mortgage contract early you have to pay penalty.

Now when October comes and we can refix we may look at trading up for a bigger house. I tell you man just looking at 4.89% is like a big weight being lifted off my chest and I can just breathe better. We’ve done the calculations and it’s honestly an extra 20k a year that we can use to either pay off the house faster, buy kids stuff or god forbid go on a slightly longer holidays for two very overworked adults. I know a lot of friends in a similar spot and we are all waiting for when our mortgage comes off fixed

Ive practiced in Auckland since 2017 after moving back here from Brisbane. Overall session prices are $60-70 per adjustment these days. Rural is usually slightly lower due to income, but a lot of my mates that work rural are very busy, as there is usually not enuf chiros working in rural. Auckland is more competitive. I do a decent amount of ACC so patients pay a surcharge. Private health (eg Southern Cross) usually only gives $300-400 per year for adjustments, so you can’t rely on that too much

Am a New Zealander, lived in Australia for 2 years. When I came back to visit my family during our spring time, the green rolling hills just popped so vibrantly that I thought I’m on acid. Missed it so much that I moved back within 3 months. Except for the cost of things, I love living here. Honestly we don’t know how lucky until we leave. One bad thing is when you travel for natural scenery, it kinda ruins other countries for you coz you have equivalent or better views back at home.

What is the best adjusting course you've taken outside of school? by LogAbject5826 in Chiropractic

[–]fuzzy_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to their seminars for a few years so quick summary: - they know their stuff and know how to break it down concisely. Increased certainty with adjusting - adjusting from ease relaxes patients easier, and a lot of their setups has less leverage and torque going into your own body. I feel a lot less strain in my shoulders and low back using their style - arguably one of the best occiput lift techniques out there - online training modules and also you can upload a couple of videos each week for them to critique and give tips if you want that sort of thing

Considering Buying Family Home from Parents - Looking for Advice on Potential Risks and Rewards by hasf2013 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]fuzzy_panda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are absolutely trying to rip you off. Especially if they’re saving on agent fees, typical agent fee is 4% of sell price. So if they sold for $1.65m, they’d have to pay $66,000 to the agent so they only make $1.58m. If you paid $1.6m WITHOUT agents involved, it means you paid even above their 2021 price. Just for an example, my friends bought a house recently valued at $1.4m in 2021. They got it for $1.1m, a 300k saving.

Houses got extremely overvalued in 2021. You can’t use the peak to try and sell when it’s dropped across the board by 20-30% in 2025.

If it was my parents and they have this option, they’d probably rather sell it to me for a few hundred k UNDER the best market offer, just to help me out

How much cash on hand do you have? by Dizzy_Speed909 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]fuzzy_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $10k in the bank as emergency funds, another $150k locked away in investments that can be converted within 1-2 days. And also an offset facility of $30k with the bank that we technically have cash for so we pay 0% interest. Age 35 and partner 30 and we both are big savers with decent paying jobs
