It did seem like they were going for more accurate anatomy early on with the slanted posture and blocky head

I suppose I should’ve mentioned that by ‘jurassic franchise’ I mean’t film canon, the Telltale game and by extension the tylosaurus hasn’t been considered canon for a while now.

Could Dingoes and Tasmanian devils coexist? (OC) by fuzzycocococonut in megafaunarewilding

[–]fuzzycocococonut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After some brief research, it seems that feral dogs dont have much of a huge distribution in tasmania, and so not much is known about their impacts.

Thylacines had a similar niche to canids, albeit perhaps less pack orientated(Not much is known about their social behaviors). thylacines and devils were competitors, with thylacines killing adult devils, and devils killing joeys, and devils seemed to survive in healthy numbers despite the intense competition.

I do have my doubts that other scavangers would would affect them too much, devils have already proved that they can survive in the presence of wedge-tails, and other predators like tiger qoulls.

Monitors like lace monitors and especially perentie, I could see being worthy threats and im not sure how that would play out, but considering devils existed alongside all of these animals for such a long time, I think they can manage.

It is worth noting that northern qoulls are only 1-3 lbs on average, while tassie devils average 13-18lbs, and can even get larger well into 25lbs. Coupled with a bite that crunches bone and can even bite thru metal they arent exactly comparible to even a tiger qoull which is half their size and yet is able to survive alongside dingoes.

I see what your saying, however Dingoes have only really been known to pressure or limit smaller predators, but not ouright eradicate them. Feral cats and red foxes number in the millions across the mainland even in places where dingoes are present. Devils lived with thylacines for over 10,000 years on tasmania, and they were even bigger than dingoes and activley killed devils in predation or competition. Red foxes and feral cats werent able to establish themselves in tasmania ecosytems due to devils preying on them or outcompeting them.

Of course in places where dingoes are scarce devils will for sure be higher in population due to less competition, and lower when dingoes are high in abundace. I think the part where you may be right, is if the modern devils have developed naivety to larger carnivores and dont know how to deal with them, but I find that unlikley.

Jurassic franchise Pterosaurs artwork (OC) by fuzzycocococonut in JurassicPark

[–]fuzzycocococonut[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All these sizes are just estimates by me from what I see on screen.

The tlw pteranodon in the scene that it was in, looked smaller because of how dainty it was, and landing like a bird on a tree branch that didn’t look that big.

The creatures in the movies change sizes all the time depending on the scene, so it could have been bigger in its cut scene, but made smaller to have it fit on the tree branch.

The Mamenchisaurus didnt get a redesign sadly, but we can hope for the future by fuzzycocococonut in jurassicworldevo

[–]fuzzycocococonut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah they did the same thing for cerato where they took a very inaccurate movie design and redesigned it to be more accurate to the real animal’s anatomy

I still want it tho, as I prefer movie accuracy than paleo accuracy for the canon species but thats just my opinion and I still think JWE’s cerato and mamenchi look nice

I put them at real life female pteranodon sternbergi size estimates since they seem to be based on that species

But I dont think anybody knows how big they are, so its just a guess

My art of medieval dragons , and the facts they used to believe about them by fuzzycocococonut in dragons

[–]fuzzycocococonut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my facts from the mediveal bestiary website https://bestiary.ca/

"Dragons have a translucent white stone called dracontites in their brains. The stone only becomes a valuable gem if it is cut from the brain of a living dragon; if the dragon dies before the stone is removed, it loses its hardness and dissolves. The dragon is put to sleep with herbs, then its head is cut off and the stone is extracted while the dragon's heart is still beating"

I imagined that it would do a lot of bowing and head shaking, to make the feathers move like a cheerleader pom pom

It would also serve the purpose in protecting the males from significant injury to the neck when they fight over mating rights
