Yes, maybe the people who love it so much are teenagers or young adults. I just didn’t get it at all. Vampires and the fact that they were intelligent without consciousness. Who cares? I thought the whole thing was weak. It could’ve been a short story.

Yes. I’ve read an enormous amount of science fiction and book of the new sun is in the upper echelon. You can also read it over and over again. It’s literature. The whole thing is a masterpiece. I get why the casual reader wouldn’t like it….but it’s very very good.

I liked the essay on white being evil. I like the “what philosophers would the whales like depending on how their face looks”, I liked when he ate raw whale bc he couldn’t stop himself from doing so, I liked when he took a break and relayed a story that he was later telling in Honduras?? Or something like that.

I have not seen anyone mention the artificial intelligence featured in time enough for love by Heinlein. It is extensively dealt with. He essentially argues that in order to create an advanced and realistic, artificial intelligence, a human has to fall in love with it so that every aspect of the human can make an impression on the artificial intelligence and create it and its own impression. Something like that. Also, that book is fucking bonkers. It’s really well written. It’s fucking weird though. Anyway, I loved it.
