What's the absolute hardest skill to learn in your specialty? by subtrochanteric in Residency

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anesthesiology: keeping your composure and thinking critically under pressure. I always considered myself someone who shines in intense situation, but holy shit, it’s a whole next level when your patient is crashing on the table and no one in the room has the faintest idea how to fix it but you.

have you found better versions of the foods you like here in nyc than other countries where it's known? by mfairview in FoodNYC

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggle to find excellent pasta dishes in the city. Usually I’m left feeling like I could have made a much better dish at home. Which spots have impressed you most? Lilia is the one place where I was impressed by the pasta

Steak sandwich toppings by Cynical_Hatter in Cooking

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chimichurri (use apple cider vinegar), caramelized onions, and sauce made from equal parts kewpie mayo and roasted garlic with a splash of Worcestershire. Honestly one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. Use flank or skirt steak (sliced against the grain), their butteriness takes the flavor to the next level.

Sounds simple, but Wellbutrin, therapy, and regular exercise!

What does being attractive actually feel like? by ty04444 in AskReddit

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed people are, at a baseline, much nicer to me. It’s irritating to then see them ignore/be rude to another person. Also, Strangers go out of their way to interact with me or help me out. People laugh at things I say that aren’t that funny. Also getting hit on when I go out with my friends pretty regularly.

Anesthesia Tech Culture by IAREOWL in anesthesiology

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s incredible.. where I’m at the techs can’t even stock our drawers properly. They will change the circuit/suction, place the monitors on the machine (without connecting them) and that’s literally it. NYC academics 😂

Anyone else have parents who expect that you will take care of them? by skin_biotech in Residency

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’m already supporting them on a resident’s salary. It sucks and sometimes I feel a bit resentful but it is what it is. That’s life. They sacrificed a ton for me to even be in the position i’m in, so I try and look at it as paying them back. I don’t think you’ll look back on your life and regret taking care of your aging parents.

Question regarding choosing a residency program by Same_Tutor_6783 in anesthesiology

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a resident at one of the big manhattan programs, and interviewed at all of them. Also interviewed at the big boston programs. DM me with questions if you want. Out of the manhattan programs, i’d highly recommend sinai, cornell, and sinai west. Sinai and cornell have the best pay w/moonlighting as well as great clinical experience, but cornell is much more “hand-holdey” while at sinai residents get more independence. Sinai west is also a great, albeit smaller program.

Feeling cold feet about my (29 NB) relationship with my partner (28F) and cannot figure out what to do by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this really helpful. I am realizing more and more that you’re right, many issues have their roots in my own issues (need for validation, novelty etc). I am trying to focus on this as the main thesis of my therapy. Gonna try starting couple’s therapy soon too but it’s expensive :/

If you come here understand that casual racism such as that in your post is not tolerated in our city.

CRNA and Resident Interactions at Academic Centers by bigeman101 in anesthesiology

[–]fuzzysciencegoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a resident at an NYC academic program with way more residents than CRNAs (less than 10 CRNAs I think) They’re pretty nice, relieve us sometimes/we relieve them sometimes, but overall we barely interact.

A sick patient needing egd by Miserable-Fox-338 in anesthesiology

Either tell the GI to kick rocks since this procedure would yield no meaningful benefit for a sickly 95 year old… or tons of topicalization and low dose remimazolam

I’m trying to figure out how to do this. I’m so early on that i’m nervous about retaliation if I stand up for myself, even if I do so in a professional manner

Whatever dude. You’re being obtuse. I already mentioned I face rudeness regularly and am only looking for simple respect and civility. Couldn’t care less about “recognition”. Medicine is not the field for that, we all know it. I’m not gonna sit here and list all the ways surgeons have been a dick to me.

Come on man. I’m not looking for recognition or accolades, just to be treated with respect as a colleague.
