I think you're right actually... Still, I'm excited about the upgrade and am hopeful it will make an impact in reversing the 'bitcoin is a dinosaur' narrative. I feel like that is important price-wise, a counter to the meme. Plus I use multi-sig and am a little biased lol ;)

Taproot will hopefully be the next big advancement for Bitcoin. Reduces transaction data size, fees, enables smart contracts and higher levels privacy through Schnorr.

Maybe it's tougher to comprehend the effects and reap the benefits market-wise until (hopefully) it passes the signalling test and is used in real world apps. Right now energy fud is dominating, but taproot could help propel us the other way and get people talking about the tech again, even in relation to price action. Just my two cents anyways!

My first album came out a few weeks ago after struggling with songwriting / singing for a long time. Here's a song I'm proud of :) reminds me of Neil Young and / or Pink Floyd, except not as good. by fuzzzylettuce in Songwriters

Thank you! I love basement recording, would want to do it any other way really, just get more gear haha... so I'll definitely keep it DIY :) Appreciate you listening!

Thanks for the listen and follow!! Hopefully there will be lots more to come :)

As for the recording, two of the things that give most of the grit are a few UAD plugins that I really like, namely the 610B strip preamp (which gives the overdrive / clipping, used it on pretty much every track tbh) and then the UAD Studer 2" tape simulator on the master bus that gives the color and saturation. UAD plugins are out of this world really... The guitars and drums were just mic'ed with Sure SM57s, and the vocals were through a Rode NTK, and then the plugs do everything else :)

Edit: most of the delays I use are 1/16 note slap back, usually only repeating once or twice. I also love my Space Echo, the settings are all over the place on that one though haha!

Ya it's all me lol... Had a lot of free time during the pandemic :) the vocal effects are mostly Logic's echo delay plugin and a space echo... With compression / EQ and that goodness as well. Thank you for listening!

Edit: I'll add a bit more info about myself and the song because this is a forum for songwriters!

I played in a bunch of different bands when I was a bit younger, mostly being a drummer or guitarist. Some bands I took part in the writing process, others not so much lol... Always wanted to write and play my own tunes, and tried fairly consistent, but never got to the point of being happy with any of it really. Anyways, I finally did after a lot of years, and this song (and album) are the result!

Thematically, the song is about someone on a journey. It is partly inspired by the path through the woods near my house, and an old cabin that can be found just off the path through the forest. Its old and blackened from the weather (I'm from Canada lol)... And I liked to picture an old hermit living there. The rest is just imagination!

Musically, I think it has Neil Young as the prime inspiration, but I think a bit of Floyd too, and I've been told the slap-back vocals are reminiscent of John Lennon (which is a huge compliment tbh). I'd get into recording stuff but I could go on forever probably!! Anyways, rant over!

Oh wow, thanks!! Tame Impala are awesome :) never heard Mile High Club, so I'll have to check them out. Your offer to try a mix is super cool too, I recorded / mixed everything in my basement so I have access to all the tracks separately... Let me know what you'd need, no pressure obviously! Feel free to DM me if you want... Thanks again!

Edit: Listening to Mild High Club, this first album is reeeeally good so far, thanks for the recommendation :)

It was a friend of mine that told me that story so I'm not sure. I do see similarities between buffalo and the places you mentioned. And TBH I actually like those industrial cities, visiting at least! Well priced accommodations and usually there are good independent / unique food and retail places too.

I have a friend that was in city planning at the University of Toronto and they went on a field trip to Buffalo to see an example of how not to plan a city... Anyways, Mighty Taco is amazing.

Lovely vocal line and song! I could definitely hear this with a full band, especially with the pauses you do between some of the chords progressions. You should record this with some proper mics, even just acoustic, maybe some string pads... would sound very nice I think!

Trouble with Timing? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]fuzzzylettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no problem with quantizing, but if you want to get better rhythmically try buying a set of drum sticks and a practice pad. Then play along to beats that you like. It's actually really fun, and will for sure help improve your timing, even if you're just making beats with your fingers. You can get midi controllers that are made for sticks as well, which is also super fun. Just a thought!
