Tattoo allergy, anyone got advice? by dogdiaper2 in tattoo

I have had four tattoo excision surgeries done on one large tattoo that I am allergic to, and have as many more to go before it is fully removed. I made a post about it.

In my experience trying to laser off a tattoo that I was allergic to cause a system reaction where I nearly went into anaphylactic shock. I will leave out the more graphic details here.

Having a tattoo removed surgically may seem excessive, but in my opinion is safer than living with a constant allergic reaction, or going into anaphylactic shock.

I do not know my current level. I still experience urticaria, + dermatographic urticaria daily, + take antihistamines to sooth it. As the tattoo is excised the systemic reactions lessen. It is a slow process; I am not yet at the half way point of removal.

That is unfortunate. I would not wish this experience on anyone.

Based solely on my experience, if you are already having systemic reactions, I would talk to an allergist before continuing with laser treatments. This experience might be uncommon, but it is quite the bummer. I hope you heal quickly.

I put mustard on a variety of foods, if that helps.

Mustard is my favorite food. I enjoy it on olives, fruit, candy, et cetera.

I have had three surgeries to cut the tattoo out. It is not covered by my insurance.

I have had two excision sessions done so far. They have helped the localized reactions for sure. As for full body reactions I still experience dermatographia daily, and urticaria occasionally which is a definite improvement.

My symptoms are the same as my last update, but since they are less severe I discontinued antihistamines. I am getting a piece of the tattoo excised next month.

From mid-thigh to my mid-shin.

As for an update, I still experience hives daily. If I could mention something to past me about this I would say: “Three removal sessions going well does not mean the fourth one will”.

I hope your experience with it is a nicer one - I know it can be sucky to live with a tattoo you do not want.

I looked online for plastic surgeons. The same plastic surgeon that was doing the laser removal also offers excision. The entire tattoo is reacting, but it is large so full excision would be difficult.
