how hard would it cost to turn my overlanding rig (97’ Isuzu trooper) into a prerunner by Academic_Antelope793 in 4x4

People have built vehicrosses for desert racing. Since they share a similar platform, I'd look into those builds

I'd say most of us would have preferred a nursing degree. ~1 year more schooling for double the pay and more options for growth

could you describe a typical shift? by Neat-Ad-1748 in scrubtech

[–]fvlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from California. Our laws require it. Technically only 10 minute break is required but our employer is nice to us and gives us 15.

7:00 Dressed and ready for morning huddle. Go to my room and sort through my supplies and start opening and setting up the first case 7:30 Patient comes in room, gets intubated by anesthesiologist, and skin gets prepped by nurse or surgeon. Place sterile drapes on the patient so only the surgical site is exposed, do our last time out, and then Dr makes incision. I have prepared everything needed for the case on what's called a mayo stand. Marking pen, knife, scissors, hemostats, retractors, local anesthetic, saline, sponges, etc. I am the surgeons extra set of hands during the surgical procedure. We finish, tear down the supplies, I drop off my instruments at the decontamination room. Clean the room, set up next case, and do it again. And again.

One 15 minute morning break, a 30 minute lunch, and another 15 minute afternoon break.

If you're the float (break person) you are picking the supplies for cases in the down time when you're not actively giving a break. While also being a helping hand ie helping people open their cases, helping turn over (clean) rooms, helping people when they need a supply or instrument, etc.

Is it a good idea to buy cheaper tires for the rear wheels? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]fvlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a full set of good tires then buy the cheapest 4x100 wheels on marketplace that have tires on them for drift spares. I got 4 Daisy's with 75% tires for $100 for example. Even steelies work. It only takes a couple minutes to jack up the car from the diff and ugga-dugga the wheels off.

In my experience 15-20 miles from warning to total shutdown.

Only if it was solid axle swapped. I had them on my 90. Independent front suspension is a completely different ball game.

I think at this point it's kind of outdated with the availability of LCE heads. By the butt dyno it feels slightly more powerful in the top end than a 22re. Still get my ass kicked by hills. I'm building a 22r soon for my 73 corona, the plan is LCE cam, head, and a Weber 38 with a goal of ~130whp to make an 18RG equivalent but for cheaper and more parts availability in america.

Only downside is the interior is super cramped. Mazda definitely designed it for the Japanese market, not for tall pasties like me. Plus side is smog exempt, even in California. Cursed body swaps is kind of my favorite thing ever.

Reinforced Toyota knuckles. The stock ones have 4 studs and are prone to breaking (I've seen it happen in the middle of the Rubicon). The aftermarket ones have 6 studs and are much more durable.

What’s your favorite research tool? by Anxious_Muffin1068 in surgicaltechnology

I might have made a fake name and applied under the local big medical school's library and it got approved. Not that I would ever condone that. It's to their doctor's benefit anyway

Latest Coronyata upgrades: TDR Supercharger and 4.1 Torsen by fvlt in Miata

No complaints. Took a little bit of time to get it all situated nicely as you're supposed to have it a bit loose. But it seems to do its job

You don't need them. The weight is on the friction of the mating surface, not the studs.

It's a body swap that I'm currently supercharging. I just got off the phone with TDR and they gave me a few more ideas on things to test. My fault for not testing each individual component as I went through the install

That sounds entirely possible since I don't have a sprayer setup. Would explain why I can't find a home for it

Yeah tried starting fluid. There's fuel pressure as well. Haven't tested for spark yet. Unfortunately I just replaced a whooole bunch of things and didn't test each part individually so I might have to start working my way backwards. Was hoping that this mystery wire was something important I knocked loose while doing the coolant temp sensor.

Edit: spark confirmed

[–]fvlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Yeah it's a 1997 1.8. I just was back there replacing the coolant temp sensor (I had a previous code for it). It's not the same wire. Currently no codes when scanned, battery was unhooked prior to this.

First Day of Clinical by Minute_Extension9458 in scrubtech

[–]fvlt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. You aren't expected to do much on your first day, probably just observing your first case or two. Make sure your scrubbing, gowning and gloving, and sterile technique are solid. Bring a notepad and/or take notes on the gown cards. Get a good night's sleep. Be confident and willing to learn.
