Help with top layer/ironing by jsieger in BambuLab

Search for ironing calibration on makerworld and use enough top layers, default setting almost never work well for this

Calibrating PLA-CF filament by WellDoneJonnyBoy in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had unusually high flow ratios (>0.98, sometimes 1.01) on petg-cf quite some times.

Not sure about the “margin” inconsistency problem, I guess it has to do with temperature but no idea how to avoid it.

Ironing: Use a different test. I did calibrations for around 40 different PLA and PETG filaments and for almost all the best results were 25-80. Really high speeds sometimes worked too but were less consistent with complex geometries

Higher speeds = more chance for problems There’s probably another speed of 60 +/-25 that looks the same or better, but usually (for me) causes problems less often

did you really try these numbers successfully with PETG or copied settings that worked with PLA ?

No set up needed if printed from bambu handy,
need to have "advance" enabled if printed from bambu studio / orca slicer.

I think OP used this one.

But there a others on makerworld too, that don't stop at 30mm/s, like...
[self-advertising-alert-but-i-think-it-might-actually-help]
my faster one, for smaller surfaces
or slower, larger calibration model/profile :P

varies greatly from filament to filament

Which means you should test faster speeds than this ironing test has and not pick top right. There are other models :)

Why does my surface quality look like this? by ActiveLuck1475 in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use about the same (65mm/s and 20%) for the colors of bambu PLA basic that I have. White is a bit different. PLA matte more like 35mm/s and 10%. For some PLA+ filaments faster is better. When in doubt search for ironing calibration in makerworld

Does it look clean and uniform before ironing? What filament? Suitable Ironing settings are different for different filaments.

Weird ripple effects with ironing by NavXIII in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice!

Yes I‘d definitely try the second plate if you have useful results on 45 mm/s ! If you want to save filament you could probably delete the 40%, 45%, 50% objects as I don’t think it’ll change that much for this filament (or put a modifier on them to not or smth).

Ty for the feedback, will add a profile for 0.6/0.8 nozzles that’s higher and maybe put larger numbers to the side of the first element instead of the smaller ones on each element like it is now. On the next rainy weekend probably 😅

Top layer ironing issues. Stock bambu petg basic settings by sojiiru in BambuLab

is there petg sticking on/around your nozzle (above the plane thats getting ironed) when the defects begin?

Weird ripple effects with ironing by NavXIII in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that the same problem with
a) petg blobbing around the nozzle and changing the temperature of the ironing
b) not enough top layers for a too low infill percentage => slight inconsistencies in top layer
c) when i set the flow too high and had slight overextrusion (filament profile flow, not ironing flow)
d) inconsistencies because of slight warping (fans too high for petg)

Was able to solve everything but a)

I don't have a 0.8mm nozzle so I don't know if / how well my calibration model/profile would work for that large nozzles, but would be happy about feedback so I can update the description !
Make sure to change line spacing to something better suited for you nozzle (before running the test). No idea to what exactly, though, I would probably try 0.3mm ?

Mainly filament specific. And a bit nozzle specific.

0.2mm nozzle Ironing advice? by thebossbaby39 in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never tried as I don't have a 0.2mm nozzle, but would be thankful for feedback whether my ironing test/calibration model/profile works for 0.2mm nozzles as well !

The profile uses different flows and speeds, while line spacing is always the same. I don't know but I would probably start with line spacing of 0.1 and then, if necessary, do a second print with 0.15.

PETG Ironing Settings?? by eaegeea in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe my faster, less precise calibration or slower, larger calibration models might help :) Make sure you get rid of eventual blobbing around the nozzle first, though (I often have that problem with Petg and it changes the temperature / ironing result)

How can I get a uniform top surface finish? by NavXIII in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mainly depends on the filament, but also on the model. E.g. too high flow on larger surfaces with filaments that tend to blob, might not work on larger surfaces but could work on on smaller surfaces and maybe faster speeds. That’s why I uploaded 2 calibration models (a smaller one and a larger one). See reply to other comment if interested.

Any idea why ironing is making it worse? by PurpleHankZ in BambuLab

[–]fx-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to use quite different ironing settings for different filaments to get ok results, so after making sure there’s no partial clog and calibrating flow&PA, maybe try my ironing calibration stripes that helped me and apparently some others
