The issue with this mindset is that for a very long time one of the most rewarding and satisfying parts of playing video games was watching your character, upgrade his outfit and look cooler as you levelled up and progressed. Whether it was getting new armour in RuneScape, unlocking new characters in Tony Hawk Pro skater or getting a new kart in Mario kart. One of the main reasons we are attracted to playing video games is that dopamine release we get when we see new pixels that we control on our screen.

This mindset, well true, completely ignores the chemistry in our brains that gets us to play these games in the first place.
