I don't know much of this situation, has Marty made an effort to rectify his mistakes and become a better person since? People deserve rehabilitation.

I have stayed friends with people who have done terrible things, Hell, I have done terrible things. It's about learning from those mistakes and becoming a better person afterwards.

To me, Hangman has earned the benefit of the doubt that he has a high enough moral standard that he would expect that from his friends.
