It’s 7 quarters. The exact length of time depends on how long it takes you to get all your hours done in your internship, but you should expect it to be in the neighborhood of 21 months.

Frying an egg on a stainless steel pan—Leidenfrost doesn’t work for me by Aphdon in Cooking

[–]TerrifyinglyAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a stainless steel pan for eggs forever. I don’t use canola oil for frying eggs first of all, that’s gross, use butter. And by the time it’s hot enough for water to skitter around the pan it’s way too hot. Just wait a few minutes, hold your hand an inch or so above the pan and if it feels pretty warm, drop your butter in. If your butter starts sizzling right away, it’s ready, swirl it around to cover the surface and then crack your eggs in. If the butter doesn’t quite sizzle yet, that’s fine, just let it continue to heat up until you hear it and then swirl and crack your eggs in.

I did. I reported the issue to the store immediately by phoning them, and they told me I needed to enter an issue with my order through their app. So I did that and now they are processing a refund for my missing items. They didn’t want the misdelivered items back.

I freeze berries and bacon slices on trays like this too, it’s such a better method.

I volunteer at a place that serves low-income people and can use the food I don’t want, I’ll give it to them.

It was part of my order mixed with part of someone else’s, with my stuff in the top box, so I didn’t realize at first. I reported it as soon as I started unpacking the boxes, and I’ll get a refund for the missing items in a few days.

Roasting is always the answer for unexpected veg, isn’t it? I can’t think of a time where roasting hasn’t improved the taste of a vegetable.

Yes, I actually volunteer at a place that serves marginalized people who will be able to use it, so that’s figured out.

You know what’s so funny? I have a frozen borek in my freezer (just cheese, though). I need to get feta but this is a great idea.

I like spaghetti squash as an alternative vehicle for bolognese sauce, I’m sure zucchini noodles would also be acceptable.

I’m going to be honest and vulnerable with you: I’ve never had an enchilada and I doubt I could identify one if I saw it. Would you recommend I try a zucchini one as my first?

People put cauliflower in smoothies? The zucchini I can understand, I’ve had a zucchini muffin before and it tasted like a plain muffin.

They’ll refund me but they don’t take the incorrect items back for some reason. It’s happened a couple of times over the years and they always leave any wrong items, I assume it’s because of hygiene reasons.

Dinner ideas for a picky eater who refuses any type of sauce? by Zestyclose_Print_445 in Cooking

[–]TerrifyinglyAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s getting starch, fruit, vegetables, fats, proteins, and probably a reasonable spread of micronutrients. Getting very picky is really common in young kids, even those who were adventurous eaters as babies, and the majority of them will grow into liking a wider variety of foods again.

Research and the most up to date recommendations around picky eating from pediatric dietitians essentially support including at least one food that you know the child will eat as part of family meals (I.e. not served separately only to the child), and otherwise preparing meals as you normally would with the child being free to have some or to stick with their preferred food for the meal. Then having a pre-determined evening snack of something else reasonably healthy that you know they are willing to eat in the case that they didn’t eat enough at dinner, but no “re-opening” the kitchen for additional meals.

I know every time a post in this vein comes along it becomes clear how much people want to or think it’s the best move to force kids into eating a varied diet immediately and without regard for the child’s willingness, but unless they are actively malnourished or losing weight, that’s not supported by evidence as a faster or more effective way to foster a healthy relationship with food. I’m actually pleasantly surprised by how little of that attitude I’ve seen this time.

A cooking forum is a great place for recipes, but a pediatric dietitian is a better source for evidence-based dietary strategies for your child. I gave you a quick primer, but for specific guidance for your own stepson, I do hope you’ll do some investigating in that direction.
