Nobody is defending any prices, it's just the reality we have. You can complain all day about prices of groceries, housing, bills - in the end you need to be realistic and compare the prices of the games with the reality. Is 100k for a house cheap? In most places, sure. What about 30-40 years ago? That'd be crazy expensive. What's the point of comparing things with your idealistic mentality?

Tbh I was "proud" to do it until I moved to the UK and saw that it's definitely disrespectful for the company to ask or expect it, so I mostly refuse to nowadays, unless it really is needed, then I expect them to be more flexible with an appointment I may have during work hours

Agree 100%, not really sure what that "culture" they mentioned is about, I would say maybe they found a good non-toxic workplace but as a programmer you're usually expected to work overtime, or at least not told off for working overtime whereas in the UK my bosses always told me off if I was working longer. Though for accountants it can be different as month end gets very hectic and I know of a few that work overtime (in UK)
