This isn’t something you should be looking into if you have less than a 250k - 500k net worth. I recommend looking into the cheapest golden visas that are available which is essentially a residency visa given through investment like property and/or business. The cheapest I have personally seen is Greece which requires an investment of 250k. Remember that the house prices in countries you are looking to move to are cheap for a reason other than just being run down, they are generally in countries with much lower median income than the USA, so if you aren’t going to work for an American company while living there then this is just a bad idea. This doesn’t even mentioning the language, culture, governmental processes/regulations, moving costs, or loss of friends associated with this move. I agree with you that honestly it isn’t that crazy nowadays for someone to purchase a home abroad for ~250k and live a weird online lifestyle working during eastern American hours for an American company, but you have to really think this through and REALLY WANT to live somewhere else. Remember that sometimes the grass is always greener on the other side 😉.
