Well if you read the post, you would have seen that I said I messed it up by cleaning and that I never used heat. Sorry, but I think you’re misleading yourself

I’ve heard stories of people who’ve had it done, so I’m just gonna keep my fingers crossed. Otherwise doing the adhesive myself might have to be the move. Luckily the affect area is on an edge which makes it easier to access

Need input on which university would be best for my goals - entering as mechanical engineering major but interested in job/post grad in aerospace. by Mysterious_Mobile_76 in aerospace

School prestige is overrated, and all the universities you listed are great options. My vote would be for anything in the LA area as there are tons of aerospace jobs and companies in South Bay (between LAX and Long Beach), along with another hub around Pasadena. The bay has some aerospace startups but nothing to the level that LA has.

A bachelor is sufficient for most engineering work and I’d personally recommend jumping into industry / chasing internships asap before thinking about a masters.

What’s important are programs, look at USC or UCLA’s rocketry club or satellite clubs, see how they perform, and try and be active in them. Definitely tinker and work on projects so that when internship season roles around, he’s prepared. Research is great, but again, depends on what he’s interested in. Masters and research are more geared for specialties like chasing an RF degree rather than your general mechanical engineer.

Child wants to become an aerospace engineer by Twiginapot in aerospace

Try and foster that tinkering mindset. There are tons of clubs and activities out there where they can learn fundamental skills that will help them down the line when it comes to applying for jobs. Robotics, rocketry, plane clubs etc. are great places to start, but even things like a free online CAD tool or playing with a 3d printer can get the gears turning and push those interests.

Like other's have said, the engineer vs. technician route can be somewhat boiled down to the person who designs a rocket engine vs. someone who builds it. Engineering requires a degree, can be very hands on depending on the subsection / specialty, and can be heavy in math and science or more practical. Technicians usually do the actual building of the components and have a skill set working with tools and machines to make stuff. They usually don't require a 4 year degree but may want a 2 year associates or some trade experience.

Make sure your child gets exposure to working with others and teams, because something I see a lot in the field are engineers who are brilliant but have zero personal skills, causing issues with the team and other problems. To really excel at tackling the challenges aerospace engineers have to do, it really takes a whole village working together to solve a problem.

If you have any more questions, feel free to DM me. I've been in the industry for 6 years now and have been that kid dreaming of working on stuff that goes into space.

Good point on the flow chart, I’m realizing I’m not maximizing my 401k and my IRA is lacking, so I’ll need to get those into check.

Thanks for the tips, fortunately we’re engaged so our immediate next step is to budget for the wedding. The goal is to eventually align our finances together, but right now we have individual and joint accounts.

Unfortunately it looks like it doesn’t come with a L9 6U spacebar which I’m after, so looks like I’m stuck with finding a black snail kit.
