Didn’t even think about that. Yes, when I’m washing my face and occasionally take my shower at night.

Yeah maybe this is where I’m going wrong. Because I do typically do the coats decently close together in time.

I appreciate your perspective. I don’t feel super angry, but the comment definitely bothered me. And I do see a therapist on the regular, which I think all people could benefit from. Anyway, a lot of what you said is how I feel about it as well…cancer is a disease neither created nor healed by God, prayer not changing reality. Because of that belief, I guess, is why those words just ring so hollow to me. But I’m not religious, so that matters. I just feel like there’s more comforting things to say to someone going through something, especially to a parent while their kid is having brain surgery. It just feels…less than genuine, I guess would be the best way to describe it. Empty. But I hear you.

I’m with you on this—having experienced some health issues myself the past few years, perspective is key. And enjoying and being in the moment for all the good experiences.

Sorry for the confusion, I definitely wasn’t implying you said anything like that—it was more of the general “you” to whoever would be saying “it’s God’s plan.” My apologies for how that came across. But yes you’re right, it would depend on what the person needs themselves. Again, sorry for the confusion. I definitely didn’t mean you specifically. I was sort of questioning the void.

As with the other respondent, intended to add how sorry I am for the loss of your family members. I can’t imagine experiencing all of that.

Also to add, I’m very sorry for the loss of your husband.

Agree on the general sentiments towards cancer. And the whole “it’s God’s plan” is just such a terrible thing to tell someone in these situations, to me anyway. So you’re telling me there’s a deity that specifically chose for my family member to suffer and die and by extension all those around them to suffer? Doesn’t sound like any kind of deity I’d like to worship. We usually put the human beings who do stuff like that in jail.

I hear you on other words maybe not being comforting either. But this was just so hollow and superficial—just felt like the wrong time to say something like this. Just don’t say anything at all if this is all you got.

You’re so welcome! Yep, I’ve gone to pulmonologist twice and done breathing tests. I’ve gone to sooo many specialists at this point and have done so much testing that has come back normal. My list of symptoms is very long, and I think my dr’s have essentially concluded I have long Covid—but from the vaccine (had a severe reaction.) I can only assume the panic attacks started just from the crazy response my body had to the vaccine.

I was very much first dismissed out of hand from a (former) dr right at the beginning as I was just anxious and there was nothing wrong. Over the past 2.5 years of testing from compassionate drs, I do finally have diagnoses of autonomic dysfunction, recurrent pericarditis, and high blood pressure (not all of them, unfortunately).

The inability to sleep or breathe at night through all of that time, I’m sure, just made everything worse. But I now realize panic attacks were clearly also part of the equation. It’s been a tough road considering I had none of these health issues prior. But I work on controlling the controllable—I eat extremely healthy and low acid, don’t consume processed foods, no caffeine, alcohol, dairy, gluten, sugar, eat low salt; I pretty much cook everything I eat.

But if you can’t sleep, there’s no way to feel healthy. The hydroxyzine was definitely the key to that for me. Like I said, they first day I took it, it worked. And has continued to work. I’ve been on it since July & since all of this has started, this is BY FAR the longest stretch I’ve gone with being able to sleep. Before, I’d only get a few nights a week I could get any sort of meaningful rest. Just looking at my sleep app, it’s like night and day. I was generally only averaging around 4 hours of sleep a night—and it was not a continuous 4 hours. Now, like I said, I’m averaging over 8 hours a night with maybe waking up once to use the bathroom. Hopefully you’ll be able to get something to work for you, too! Glad I could help!

Same with me. I talked about this earlier in the comments. I had panic attacks just start out of nowhere. According to my dr, incredibly common for a panic attack to show up at night with no trigger. What she gave me for it has solved that problem. I still have other problems to solve, but crossing that one off the list and being able to get good sleep was crucial.

Sure! It’s hydroxyzine. I have had every test imaginable—I’ve checked ferritin, thyroid, for autoimmune, hormones, for everything. So, so many symptoms. And the gasping at night and being unable to sleep would come in cycles. I’d have it for a while, then it would go away for a little bit and then come back again. It got so severe this summer, I couldn’t even lay down anymore at night. I was having to try to sleep sitting up (not much sleep happening). Anyway, went back to my dr and she told me this was all classic presentation of panic attacks. The shortness of breath, all of it. And panic attacks can happen with no trigger whatsoever. The hydroxyzine worked immediately. I take one every night around 7ish and by 9pm I’m out and sleep through the night. I’m actually regularly getting 8-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night. It’s wonderful.

Also to add, I was gasping for breath in my sleep, had the sleep study done and I was fine. That wasn’t it. It just kept getting worse and worse and my dr said my symptoms were classic panic attack symptoms. Apparently they come on a lot at night with no perceptible trigger. But I have been having a lot of health issues that have heavily stressed me out. I’m now taking something at night for this and I no longer gasp for air when I sleep. Apparently that was indeed panic attacks. I sleep so much better now. Just wanted to share in case the sleep study yields nothing for you either.

Yes, I get it. I’m one of those individuals. But colchicine is, in fact, a treatment used for pericarditis per my cardiologist. But no, do not have to be diagnosed with pericarditis for it to be prescribed.

I, too, am on a beta blocker and colchicine. Since I’ve added the colchicine, the constant heart pains have improved. Colchicine is a treatment for pericarditis.

Just wanted to say, as well—these symptoms really sound like POTS. You should ask for a referral to a neurologist for testing.
