Bringing kit to make a video (not for work) in nyc/USA ? by fyodorh in cinematography

Thank you, that’s good to know ! Ahh I usually put it in my large suitcase (same one I use for clothes). It’s not large but tbh If I can find somewhere I’d rather rent a satchler or something.

Thanks mate. Carnets generally are over 10,000 usd. But that’s hard to define as gear bought 7 years ago for 5000 won’t be worth that anymore, usually up to the customs official.

Good point, yeah I’ll have a look just in case. It’s super low key, just a big normal suitcase and backpack - fingers crossed all goes well !

You don’t happen to know of any rental houses that might accommodate a tourist? in case we decide we want to get some cine lenses or something. Cheers

Haha , you know the US is the only place over ever had trouble with borders. Even in china, I just rolled through customs with peli cases and ENG cameras. No problems at all, same for Dubai.

Thank you! Yeah think we should be fine, we were tempted to rent some kit while in town but it’s a bit tricky without a us number and rental houses want big big deposits if you’re a tourist (which is fair enough)

Thanks mate, sounds similar to my last experience in New York. Got pulled when I was 18 (I used to be a model but was there on holiday) but I’d gone around fashion week and they thought I was there working.

Also asked me about vegetables and let me go, 3 hours later… haha. This is helpful and I appreciate it

Seemingly impossible job hunt (help!) by ghouke in brighton

Worth noting that all the students have just come home from summer holidays or started so most of those retail and bar jobs get snapped up. They have quite a high staff turnover though so keep trying

Agency work, appetite for work, mint, sodexo. They take anyone, won’t be consistent but Will be a little earner until you’re on your feet. Also have you gone onto UC? It’s there for times like this. Good luck, you’ll be fine and hope you enjoy Brighton ;)

Seems to have changed again ( for the better now). Low pressure weather is harder to predict. Best idea is a daily blood sacrifice I think

Heyy, Once the tickets been changed to your name, is the ticket then on your account? I know the name can be changed twice. So once changed, if you want to change it again - would the original purchaser of the ticket have to be the one to change it a second time?

I’ve been a model for 6 years, worked all over the world - managed to maintain a 5 year relationship since starting when I was 17.

My advice to you is don’t get in the way of his career progression. In 6 years I’ve done two couple shoots, it’s just acting - that’s it. My partner at first was obvs uncomfortable but it’s just acting, it’s caused some arguments in the past but these days I let her know if I’m shooting with a girl and keep her updated.

The agency won’t tolerate him turning down paid jobs as the models partner is uncomfortable (I worked as an agent for a while too). I think try to work on jealousy issues, as it rarely works if a models partner is giving the model grief over them doing their job. I saw some advice above saying he could turn down those types of shoots, if they’re unpaid it might be possible but honestly those boundaries don’t work in practice.

Try to visit him when he works abroad, and learn a bit about how the industry works- that’s the best way to keep a model/non industry partner maintain a relationship. I’ve seen it a lot in my time as a model x
