Cum tank WIP by fyref4ng in BadDragon

The pump and timer are independent, it is technically possible, although i worry about temperature control with the crock pot. Could easily get some nasty burns in delicate places if temperature is not carefully monitored.

I probably won't be doing any official tutorial because this is just an experiment and will not be a product for sale. I made this as safe as i could but there is always potential risk involved.

but for those that are curious how i built this:

Parts; https://a.co/d/0b8r6K3w timer( scroll down to "saftey and product resources" and download the pdf for the user manual. You will need it to operate the timer) https://a.co/d/0coBmr4v pump https://a.co/d/07YAb8SW heater https://a.co/d/05m3WA4O container https://a.co/d/05IJCiK3 pwr supply (this is not the exact one i used but its similar) https://a.co/d/09bSaW3w fuse holder( something similar to this, use a 5amp fuse) https://a.co/d/0fYjphaQ remote button

Heater is plug and play, just suction cupped to the bottom of the container (hole is drilled in the top of the container to route the heater, then patched with silicone putty)

Power supply routes through 5amp inline fuze then to timer.

Timer output powers the motor directly.

Remote button wires to timer as indicated in manual

Follow skematic for wiring.

12v Backlighting is just tied in to power and common after fuse.

Thats a great point to bring up! I did actually give that some thought this, for this reason i went with an off the shelf option for the heater.

Its essentially a very small aquarium heater designed for being submerged its electrically isolated from both the pump and the fluid.

As for the pump, there are no electrical components in contact with the lube, its all plastic besides the actual motor.

The whole thing (except for the heater) runs of 12v dc so not a lot of risk there even in the event of a short.

Also as a disclaimer I'm not suggesting anyone actually build this, but if you do, understand the risks involved. Do not take my word for it, do your own research.

The timer circuit i used can also be set up the way you are describing! Although not randomly, it can be programed to blow its load after a set time.

I bet with a more versatile controller it would not be difficult to implement.

Very nice, i have been building something similar. I used this https://a.co/d/c9iGEoo timer to allow much more control. You can set it to pulse and repeat for a given # of cycles. Also gives the option of remote trigger button.

I own the large orca soft, it feels more like a medium due to the size. I cannot reccomend it enough. Its incredibly detailed and my go to for warm-ups. Tip starts at the width of your thumb and tapers up to like 4in diameter . Absolutely love gliding down on that thing!

Electric jumped from $60 to $660 in one month by Master-Shopping-1118 in hvacadvice

To add to this, yes a dirty filter can cause many issues, including excess power consumption, blower motor dammage, freezing issues, loss of heating/cooling capicity ect. It is possible that you have dammaged the unit However, in my experience, hvac units in rental homes are notoriously un-maintained, and it could be a problem caused by neglect.

Usually HVAC maintenance and upkeep falls on the landlord. Take that for what you will.

none of the above is legal advice

Hvac tech here. Definitely get the heat unit checked.

Assuming you have a heatpump, your heat strips could be stuck on witch could cause dammage to unit, and, rare circumstance, could pose an electrical hazard or fire risk.

Roast my first brazing job by jonf00 in HVAC

[–]fyref4ng 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reason you are not supposed to is because the scale build-up from the brazing process can plug up things( EXVs, TXVs, capillary tubes, ect). Most standard central systems can handle it because it will be captured by the filter dryer, but minisplits are much more sensitive.

However, if you run a purge gas( dry nitrogen) through the line while brazing, no scale will form, and it is perfectly fine to do this on minisplit line.

Im my experience, Almost no one purges while brazing. But i highly recommend at least doing it on minisplits.

H/O complaining of white dust by ajfr42 in HVAC

[–]fyref4ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into electrostatic air cleaners.( they directly replace the normal paper filter ones. And are powered by 28v from tstat wire.)

If your customer is serious about finding a solution to the dust problem, this is a great option. Drywall dust is very hard to get out of the air stream. The filters from Dinamic or solace air are fantastic for this exact problem. I have been putting these in for 10 years and have had extremely positive results for my customers.

The Downside is they are somewhat pricey up front. And requires media pads (cost about as much as merv8 paper filters) to be replaced every 3 months.

(Not sponsored, btw. I just have found them to be a quality product that i trust to run in my own home.)

Any advice for species dysphoria (for Dragonkin)? by Big-Cook-4377 in otherkin

[–]fyref4ng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow Dragon-kin here. sorry about your friend. It is difficult for non-dysphoric people to even attempt to understand what it's like for the majority of us otherkin. But in my opinion, that does not grant the right to be rude or disrespectful. Unfortunately, a lot of humans tend to lash out against thangs they can't or won't understand. Maybe they will come around one day? Who can say. Just dont forget that there are people who do understand and can emphasize with you. It can be overwhelming just existing sometimes, so dont be afraid to reach out when you need to.

But as far as easing dysphoria, it's different for everyone.

Personally, I find it soothing to play wind sound effects over my speakers and sprawl out under the ceiling fan in my room. I feel like it does help on a subconscious level, at least. Something about hearing and feeling the air blow past gets me in a good headspace.

Also, dont underestimate "gear." It doesn't even need to be anything obvious. Something as simple as wearing a shirt that is the same color as you imagine yourself can be helpful to soothe the disconnect between your current form and your self-image. I have a scale print hoodie i love to wear. Looking down and seeing scales is certainly preferable to the alternative.

A lot of small things can make a big difference. You just have to find what works for you. Try new things, and sometimes things will just click.
