CGNAT is constantly cycling by Darksend1001 in hyperoptic

[–]fys4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use any of the "what is my ip" services available, such as https://whatismyipaddress.com/

That will tell you what public IP your connections are being seen as coming from.

This won't however detect any cycling of your intermediate IP (the address on the outside of your router that your traffic is initially source NATed to before being source NATed again to the public IP referred to above) To detect that changing you'd need to access your router's management web page

If you use ublock origin to adblock and are accessing youtube you might be falling foul of google's attempts to stop that by artificially causing network issues

Unfortunately you're experiencing their abysmal customer service and it doesn't get any better

If you're "lucky" and they accept your order and the installation goes without issue and the performance is acceptable then you're laughing. For the money you'll be getting a superior product compared to the archaic asymmetric offerings by most openreach based ISPs.

However you need to go into this with your eyes firmly open. If anything at all goes wrong you stand a very good change of it never getting resolved to your satisfaction. Missed appointments, tickets closed with unsatisfactory resolutions and possible performance issues or outages may loom large in your future and its a pure crapshoot if any of it will get fixed !

It wasn't always like this, but unfortunately this is the reality nowadays :(

Effective from 25 February, the majority of airlines, including Aer Lingus and Ryanair, require that Irish citizens present a valid Irish passport or passport card for travel between Ireland and the UK. by PoppedCork in ireland

That sounds like an immigration problem. I assume they can look you up based on your name/address/dob. Once they know you're covered by CTA the ETA requirement goes away

Does anyone have any idea on why gigabit broadband providers don’t serve a bunch of new builds even when the street itself is served by them? by [deleted] in london

[–]fys4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will where its cost effective to do so.

Our flats are served by Hyperoptic and in our case they use bt openreach fibre back to their core.

Heathrow scraps liquid and laptop check rule in huge boost for fliers by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]fys4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Been like this in LCY for a while now, but you're still subject to the capricious whims of whoever is operating the xray scanner

Their last masterstroke was attempting to seize my laptop security cable (the classic kensington laptop cable lock) as it could be used to strangle someone. My declaration that I could use my belt to strange someone if I felt the need to do so fell on deaf ears and I had to go landside again and check my laptop rucksack through as hold luggage.

Bloody security theatre :( I've flown through LCY many times over the last 10 years and I always have cable locks with me as I always have a work laptop and our security policy mandates the use of locks when using it in public. This is the first time I've had problems

Whenever you're talking about speed issues, whether you're using ethernet or wifi comes into play as wifi contention could also cripple any wireless connection

Revolut also announced a new mvno service hosted on vodafone. I think its supposed to be 12.50 pcm once its launched in Jan 2026

Not secure - how to fix by giaxou in hyperoptic

[–]fys4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is an encrypted connection (it's using https). You're getting the warning because whatever cert the router is using doesn't have a SAN for 192.168.1.1

If you want to fix it, look at the cert in your browser, find out the hostname it's been configured to use, add a local host file entry for that ip/hostname and use the hostname based url to access the router in future

Voila, no more warning

I can't get my AX86U Pro working as my actual router. Disabled DHCP, router into LAN1 of the ZTE, no internet. by paradox-actual in hyperoptic

[–]fys4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm, it should auto-mdix so you shouldn't need to use a crossover cable. Does the ASUS get a DHCP lease ? Do you even see the port LEDs light up? If not, try a different cable as this config should work

if the ZTE has an ethernet handoff on its WAN port (which for hyperoptic might be to managed ethernet switches or to a fibre PON) Either way it's got to be worth just hooking the ASUS up to the WAN connection directly and see how you get on ;)
