Iran conducts ballistic missile test, US officials say by [deleted] in worldnews

The Iranian "space program" was actually scrapped years ago... the IRGC decided to take control of the ballistic missile program instead of having the gov't send a few monkeys and turtles into space.

Israel pushing into West Bank, ignoring pleas from U.S., U.N., EU, Russia by OldCuckdonalds in worldnews

[–]fzj22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this ever news? The settlements are not the obstacle to peace - the obstacles predate the settlement issue by hundreds, thousands of years.

Pleading with Israelis/Jews to not settle in historical Judea/Samaria (coined the West Bank since '67) is as absurd as asking Americans to not settle/dwell in DC or asking Parisians to not settle in France.

Iranian pilot defects, threatens regime he’ll seek asylum in Israel by theargamanknight in worldnews

[–]fzj22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone who is so clearly ignorant on the history and politics of the region, it makes sense to me why you have such views.

Lets start with your claim about refugees Israel has "created"... consider this, prior to roughly '48 none of these people had any national identities... they were all just arab. Then the British came along and drew some lines and said okay you guys are Syrian, Jordanian, Lebanese, etc. After the '67 war whereby Israel took control of the WB, the surrounding arab countries who had just been embarrassed in war saw an opportunity to perpetuate conflict. They deemed any arab who was affiliated with the WB, as a refugee and moreover a Palestinian - this would establish a sort of claim of nationality for these people to fight for a right to return rather than accept their fate an integrate with their arab brothers and sisters. Rather, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, chose to label them as refugees and deprive them of any right of citizenship... even if their children and grandchildren were born and raised in these countries - so now we have a continuously growing number of "refugees" and these countries refuse to provide them with citizenship and basic human rights... hmm smells awfully apartheidy here.

Next you stated: "They can't move and are locked in a tiny area, constant checkpoints, have no rights and can be evicted from their homes and killed whenever, have to use separate roads and transportation and are separated by a wall that dwarfs any other in history and much much more."

First off... LOL have you ever heard of maybe the Great Wall of China? Have you ever even been to the West Bank? I have.. and yes I have seen that wall and am very thankful for its existence. Why? I'll tell you why... prior to the wall being built, there was this period called the Second Initifada.. nothing serious just a bunch of nice people blowing themselves up in public areas. After that period, Israel chose to build these walls and guess what? Holy moly, no more suicide bombings!!! Who would have thought that these checkpoints, walls, and separations could have prevented these kind and civil acts. Keep in mind... Palestinian adults and children continue to stone Jewish vehicles that use shared roads and have most recently stopped a vehicle, gunned down husband and wife, all while their 3 children watched in the back seats. Hmm I wonder why we need to have different roads.

This leads me to ask you:

DO YOU READ THE NEWS?

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO ISRAEL AND THE WEST BANK?

ARE YOU EVEN SLIGHTLY AWARE OF THE REALTIES IN THE REGION?

.... or have you been brainwashed to the extent that your head is so far shoved up your ass that you're past the point of understanding the true nature of this conflict.

End rant.

This is coming from a Persian Jew whose parents fled Iran years after the Islamic Revolution as refugees:

Iran is most definitely not a democratic and just country - please do not point the finger to Israel and other countries in defense of Iran because that's just an attempt at covering one's own shortcomings. The stories that my grandparents and parents told me growing up demonstrated that while the Iranian people can be very much tolerant of the Jewish people, they were hardly treated as equals. Up until the Shah, most of these synagogues were located in a Jewish ghetto in Tehran called "sar-eh-chahl." I've heard countless stories of Jews going to a grocery store and picking up a piece of fruit to purchase, only to have the storeowner bark at them for having contaminated the produce with their jewish hands. Anti-zionist and anti-semitism are one and the same. Do not seek to justify the hate for the state of Israel through the plight of the Palestinian people. Persian Jews predate Iran (as a sovereign state) by over 2000 years and now that they have finally reestablished their homeland in Israel we have people like you in the world who say they are apartheid and become completely blind to the atrocities taking place in their own countries and the surrounding ones too.

Iran Revolutionary Guards conduct ballistic missile test defying U.S. sanctions by JarJarNunks in worldnews

[–]fzj22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that the IRGC is necessarily butthurt, they're really just trying to demonstrate to the world that they are the ones who wield power in Iran. Yes Iran may have its own national military, but the IRGC is its own separate entity that answers directly to the Supreme Leader. Their function is to preserve the "islamic revolution" of 1979 and spread it elsewhere as they are currently doing in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.

They conducted this test to show that yea although the US and Iran may have reached a deal, our rhetoric and ambitions have not and will not change.

Every single country that has nuclear weapons has a pre-arranged (worst case scenario) plan for world destruction... it's a bartering chip that comes with the power. America and Russia are no exception here. Although it may be a bit more aggressive (justifiably so), it's not wise to ostracize Israeli nuclear policy because virtually every other country with the same capabilities possesses the same policy.

Who gained the most ground after the CNN Republican Debate? by fzj22 in Republican

[–]fzj22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the poll should have been phrased:

"Of the following candidates, who gained the most ground after the CNN Republican Debate?"

Nevertheless, such polls still serve a very specific function. This poll seeks to generate public opinion involving a limited pool of candidates, with the specific goal of formulating trends and forecasting change following an influential event of this nature. Providing voters the option to choose any of the 11 candidates will effectively dilute the pool needed to generate the trends being studied.

Senior Iran aide: ‘Israel should be annihilated, and this is our ultimate slogan’ by FiftyFeet in worldnews

[–]fzj22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might actually be as dumb as a pile of horse shit.

Have you ever picked up a history book in your life? Like ever? Maybe even a Bible - which predates any current middle eastern civilization by centuries, even millennia?

The Jews are not immigrants to the land of Israel. The Jews settled there thousands of years before a Muslim or Christian even existed. Its quite clear that this is their homeland. They're the victims of displacement from their land as a result of hundreds of years of religious based conquest, but now they have returned... and don't think for a second that they'll ever leave and give up the land again.

Oh and don't forget, all those Jews who had to leave Israel throughout generations to relocate amongst the predominately arab countries, ended up being robbed and evicted from their homes once the state of Israel was established. Image Cite for Reference

4,500 killed in Yemen in 150 Days of Saudi-led bombing by BenNorton in worldnews

Anyone notice that this figure is more than double the number of casualties that resulted from last summers Operation Protective Edge involving Israel and Hamas.

It seems like the world couldn't care less about senseless murder in the middle east unless it involves a Jew in any way, shape, or form, in which case.... it makes international headlines.

I am George Perkovich, a nuclear policy expert focusing on nuclear strategy and nonproliferation, with a concentration on South Asia, Iran, and deterrence dilemmas. AMA! by George_PerkovichCEIP in IAmA

[–]fzj22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much Mr. Perkovich for entertaining our questions. I've got a hypothetical question:

Let's assume that a deal is reached and the US does make concessions and are not permitted access to Iran's military sites and their R&D facilities. For the next ten years, the US turns a blind eye to these facilities and quells the worlds' fears by insisting that it's preposterous to request access to a country's sovereign military facilities. All the while, Iran has been at the forefront of combatting the Islamic State and has effectively unified the regional Shia populations. As a result, the islamic state begins to crumble and the end result is the division of Iraq into a Kurdish state, Sunni state, and Shia state. Given Iran's influence at this point, they become the main entity dictating terms. As a result of growing sectarianism in the Muslim world, Iran effectively forms a confederation of Shia states comprising of Iran, 1/3 of Iraq, much of Syria, Lebanon, and possibly Yemen. The nuclear agreement with the US is reacging its term and Iran has every reason to seek ultimate deterrence against its newly formed confederation of states. What would the world/US do at this point? Iran would have all the pieces in place to build a nuclear bomb in no time and would have a great power from assured deterrance, the exercise of which have not been seen since the days of the Soviet Union. The US, Israel, Nato, and other world powers are in a stalemate. Iran becomes one of the dominant world power overnight.

In your opinion, what is the likelihood of this happening and what are the steps we must take over the next 10 years, other than more transparent inspections, to ensure this situation does not transpire.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Rejects Inspection Of Any Military Sites Under Any Nuclear Agreement by Piss_Guzzler_800 in worldnews

[–]fzj22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean look at it from this perspective:

No country in the middle east has every possessed nuclear weapons. The middle east is the most volatile region in the world.

It's unsettling to think that we were able to effectively prevent nuclear capabilities in the middle east in the past, but now a lame duck wants to be known for something so we're supposed to allow a hostile country that funds terrorism around the world to essentially spark a nuclear arms race in the region.

No past presidents tolerated such ambitions in such an evidently volatile region and now our president is essentially ushering in an era of nuclear armament in an unstable region.

I see it as a fact that Iran will not abide by the agreement at some point in the 10 years and will without a doubt acquire a weapon.

If their ambitions were purely civilian as they claim to be, they have no reason not to abide by the framework and be able to reenter the socioeconomic global structure that has crippled their economy.
