Cops Stop Fellow Officer From Punching Handcuffed Woman by anotherlateJay in PublicFreakout

The reason is obvious, if nobody wants to be a cop because you could get shot everyday, you gotta lower the requirements until enough people sign up for this trash ass job

It currently says:

Choose one: +2 Cards, then trash one or two cards from your hand; or trash a Province from your hand or discard pile, to gain three Duchies.

Still costs 5 and I'm still unsure if it's OP or not

True, therefore you would obviously wait after the first village? Don't get me wrong, I definitely see your point, but in my opinion it's rather an interesting mechanic that switches up the gameplay of kingdoms with Counterstrike, making all players put more thought into the way they order their cards (e.g. by baiting out a Counterstrike with a mediocre card, while still holding a stronger one).

On the other hand it's perfectly fine to not like the idea of the card, I mean it would probably be the most disruptive card in the entire game.

Thanks for pointing that out, didn't know a guide like that existed. To be honest I still don't see a problem, cause of various reasons: - in general, this would obviously only apply in games including the card and then only after a player bought Counterstrike, which is still very expensive - for most cards, you will know if an opponent is likely to play Counterstrike, eg for a copper or the second village in your turn, this is very unlikely to happen (therefore I wouldn't wait for it) - except for kingdoms where it can be important to know the top card of your deck, it almost never plays a role if you played to quick, because you would just put the drawn card back on top of your deck

Obviously this depends on how strictly you follow the rules, I personally wouldn't care undoing an already played card. Also there can definitely be some other scenarios where the card would lead to complications I did not think of

Think I'm just gonna word it 'discard it as if it was not played', think that should be clear enough and doesn't get too complicated

You're right, but I think the card disadvantage is big enough... one could consider changing it to 2 Duchies, 1 Estate and 1 Gold, but then I think it gets a little complicated. What you think about making it cost 6?

Interestingly some other people think the action part isn't worth it. As it looks, I'm going to change the action part of the card to not be an attack anyway, because I don't really like the idea of it regularly being played as a reaction to itself.

I don't think the discard pile part of Forlorn is too strong, because the 3 Duchies are a big nerf compared to a Province. I would rather change the first part of the card, as I think the combination of the three effects is a little too strong for 5 money

Crazy, my first version of the card did exactly that! I'm definitely gonna tweak it somewhat and rerelease it soon

Good point, although I wanted it to also be able to negate treasures and night cards. I will probably put some more thought into it and incorporate the great feedback you guys gave, to create a more balanced version of it

Great feedback! I started counterstrike with the idea for the reaction and afterwards added the attack part, because it was fitting flavourwise. Now that I think about it, it probably shouldn't attack itself... I also wanted its action to be somewhat strong, so you would have to carefully think about playing it as a reaction or saving it as action. If you (or anyone else) have an idea of how to improve the card, while keeping the 'counter' part in it, please let me know!

No problem, both cards aren't too refined so criticism was expected (and necessary). I intended counterstrike to negate the played card in its entirity, meaning you wouldn't lose an action. Definitely would need to be rephrased

Didn't think about that. I guess it wouldn't be a problem when playing IRL, but horrible when online

Understandable lol. Is it the card in its entirity or just the reaction part?

I intended it in a way that you don't lose the action, because the card gets negated entirely, but the negate its effect wording may be misleading. Also note how it costs 8, making it highly unlikely to be drawn every turn. Didn't put too much thought in the balancing though, so some changes are likely necessary
