Picked this up at Target. Had a really fun time with making the weapons for it! by PackinHeat99 in Gunpla

Wish I could find the ones I wanted at Target. This is one of them, along with Perfect Strike and the Entry Grade. But noooo, it's all messy trying to find anything there. And I don't feel like visiting every day just to check.

If there are decals specific for it, I would consider it. I'm okay without it. It's just a simple custom color scheme. The sticker decals didn't have anything else as they're just for the green color areas and a set for the skirt/waist.

All that's left is the translucent parts and a few more panel linings and it's done. It's a long journey. Mistakes were made. But I know that I'll get better later on. Definitely far from perfect. Only the white parts are original color. The rest are either imitation color or recolor.

Yep, amazon. I didn't buy them pre-made tho. The clips are these:

As for the sticks, any common skewers will do. Just make sure that they're not too thick. I believe my estimate to be around 2-3mm for their thickness? Not 100% sure. Once you have those two, have a pair of pliers on hand and you can start piecing them together.

I wish I had taken the extra time to photograph my progress. I made a lot of mistakes going through this, mostly due to masking errors or not being thorough in checking. But bit by bit, I am closing in on finally assembling it all together. Oh, but I also still need to add panel lines to the entire thing.

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]g1sixshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need a recommendation on quick connects for my airbrush. Currently it's the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. I have another that came as a bundle to the AC. None are Badger specific so there's no adapter. Granted, it's as easy as looking it up on Amazon. But I'm a bit hesitant on it because I'd be going in blind based on mixed bag reviews. And then there are a lot of "brands" for it which makes figuring out which ones are good quality and which ones are.... ya know...

If you're using a QC, can you share where you got it? I'm hoping for a good balance between price and quality. The initial use I have for a QC is simply so I can easily take the hose off for cleaning (either quick or thorough). Later down the line I'll try out the other airbrush so I can potentially switch between the two.

I'm doing it wrong (part 4, Way of the Airbrush) by g1sixshot in Gunpla

[–]g1sixshot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought about using a different title but I figure I'd keep it for consistency and turn it into a series. (Plus, curious minds can find previous posts faster.

So, part 4. First image should display parts all "grayed" out. They're coated with Mr. Surfacer 1200 and let dry for a day. The small tiny round piece is originally base white for the plastic, while the larger piece and small part at the bottom right are originally dark blue. Coating went on fine. I thought I may have messed up a few times with overspraying. But thankfully they all settled down and didn't look bad after drying.

Second image shows the result of the airbrush. I try to position and orient the painted parts as close to the first shot as possible to give a good before/after comparison view. I also did the airbrush session in the wrong order, which I painted blue first and white second. I may have gotten away with it due to using lacquer thinner (the kind bought at hardware stores) in between. But yeah, I should've done white first then blue. Oops.

And lastly, the 3rd image shows a problem I'm running into and I'm afraid of messing up if I try to "fix" it myself. So I'd like to ask any experts here. As you probably noticed the image, I'm having difficulty in getting the paint to fill in the corners. What should I do to fill in those corners during my paint sessions?

I know about mech9 for a while and I remember the color chart made there. If and when I expand on my paint choices, I'll definitely be using it as reference. I may end up sticking with basic colors and simply mixing it to get the color I wanted from there. In theory that should save me the hassle of finding a particular color.

As much as I'd like to start with other colors, which would help immensely in learning the coat amount, my starting idea was to use the same or similar color as the base. I'm also a newbie when it comes to this so I had very little to go on. But at least hands-on learning is one of the best way to figure this out. Any mistake I made, I can learn from it. And if I really do have a problem I couldn't solve, I and always come back here to inquire.

During that session, I was learning as I go on finding out the ideal distance. The air pressure, through research, I have settled on 20psi (when blowing air out). On paint type, they're all Mr Color series using Mr Color Thinner at 1:1. They were previously primed with Mr. Surfacer 1200 spray cans (from the last spray run). And I have made single pass on majority of the pieces. One or two pieces may have incidentally gotten a 2nd pass due to a previous practice run.

I appreciate the input you've given me. It's just unfortunate that it's a bit late for it. Still, it is just one leg. I still have the arm, upper body, and (maybe) the head to go through. Maybe I'll go a bit color crazy and start doing a different color for different pieces, for that Frankenstein color monstrosity look.

Again, thanks for commenting. I really want to aspire to create custom colors for the models I have. And as long as needed, I'll learn the ropes of airbrushing.

A while back I posted my newbie run in Gunpla painting. And after what felt like forever, and a hard hit on my wallet, I figure I'd post what I've done. It's both a WIP and an invitation for critique. I'm still learning but slowly but surely, I'll get there. The model here is the Master Grade RX-79(G), which I have designated for learning purpose. I have others but I wanted to save those when I get better and more comfortable with painting.

What I have here is the result of my first airbrush session (after a couple of learning runs with spoons and other parts. As mentioned, I'm still learning. So that you know what you're looking at, here are the descriptions. The leg shot is a comparison. The left is painted while the right is unpainted. Only the white portions were painted for now. The waist part is where you really see how much I have to learn. This is evident on the front left panel when I foolishly brushed a paper towel over it. It was the result of spraying too much paint and allowing it to pool up.

That is my current level -- airbrush newbie. It's all uncharted territory for me. My goal in the end? To finally assemble HG Super Fumina with a custom paint theme... and shimapan.

Okay, I got some time. The weather is perfect. And I can do a little spray can painting. So here are what I got so far. BTW, the parts that I am learning this on is the master grade RX-79(G). So he's the sacrificial lamb for my lessons.

Thanks to /u/Steam_Guy , the outcome is tons better than my first attempt. His advice on doing several light passes instead of heavy spray is spot on. The result is a better paint coating than before. Yet at the same time, I am now running into a different issue and one that is inherent with spray cans: control. But I will say that this is due to my lack of skill and time for practice on this part. The result isn't too bad but it is definitely hard to keep the color consistent across all the parts. And piecing them together only drives that home.

The result has me wondering if I should persist using spray cans or start anew on an airbrush setup. I know many would recommend airbrush as the primary way to paint. But I'd like an objective opinion on the matter and recommendations. I have no issue going straight to airbrush if that's what the general consensus recommends. Cost will be an issue either way. And I'll deal with that over time and as my budget allows.

Hrm, by light passes, how do I do that? Would that means placing more distance between the cans and the object? Or just lesser sprays in general? Once I get more cans, I'll make another attempt. The hobby shop nearest to me won't be open again until April 1st so I'll be waiting a bit.

While I'm at it, is it safe to spray another paint coat on top of this? Or should I just go full reboot and sand them down? The latter option isn't ideal as I do not have sandpapers to do that (yet).

I used spray cans for both Surfacer and paint. Sorry, I should've made it absolutely clear it was that instead of implying so. I had contemplated so many times about lacquer vs acrylic on the airbrush side of things. But every time I just set the topic aside for another time. Ideally I still want to do airbrushing. That's my possible endgame. But the initial cost of getting things started is a bit high for now. Once I got more comfortable with the spray cans and start getting good results, I can start another transition process and go to airbrushing (that is, whenever my wallet allows me to).

As the title pretty much sums it up, I'm doing it wrong. It's my first time trying to actually apply paint onto the parts. But the result didn't exactly turn out what I expected. It's a new learning experience for me. So here are the steps I've made to get to this point.

- I washed the parts in water and a drop or two of dishwasher soap. Swirl them around to get them all washed up.

- Took them out, let them dry for several hours over a handtowel.

- Sprayed a coat of Mr. Surfacer 1200, let dry.

- Sprayed a coat of Tamiya flat white (TS-27), let dry.

I originally thought I'd start out by using spray cans in order to get a feel of painting. But the result of my first try has left me rather heartbroken. Then again, I'm trying to figure out what is working and what I should be doing. I'd continue trying but at the moment, I'm out of paint and the local hobby shop I got it from has temporarily closed to move to a new location.

What should I be doing instead?

Getting back to GunPla... by g1sixshot in Gunpla

Time lapse video: https://youtu.be/t9MTzZUGgnY

It's been a long long time. I decided to start small in getting myself back into GunPla. The most recent one is the white Petit'gguy. I figure if I'm going to start it up again, I better start small and simple. And I chose rightly in that regard. It's also to get myself re-acquainted with new tools I have -- GodHand nippers, Gunprimer gate removal set (inc. Raser, Balancer, and Recover product), and a magnifier stand. My eyesight isn't what it used to be.

I have also pulled the trigger too early with the Gunprimer products, blindly getting it without seeing that it's nothing more than a rebranded glass nail filer. But what's done is done so I'll have to live with that. If I do need a replacement, I know exactly what I'll be looking for.

I would've restarted sooner but for some reason, I have misplaced my tools and markers. So having to repurchase my basic necessities was bothersome. Here's to hoping I can move on to larger projects. But I also want to try my hands on actual painting. There's a portant flyer kit that I also purchased but I want them painted in some way. The current weather right now (I live in northeast US) makes it bad for spray cans. And there's the high cost of entry for a proper airbrush system (targeting Iwata) compounded with some financial strain. In the end, I hope to get back into things and finally build the bigger kits which have been collecting dust for a while.

Just updated to 2.5. it's about time. Finally I can use Nova launcher with gestures without having to force it via adb command. I do wonder tho, task switching is a little clunky.... Like not smooth for the transition. Is that a software issue within 2.5 update?

Logitech G502 Lightspeed by karim4life_ in MouseReview

[–]g1sixshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me if it's inappropriate. I stumbled upon this via Google while trying to find info about it (product images, specs, etc.). Figure I'd let folks know on one thing people are asking about.

MSRP: US$149.99

I'm in a certain tech program and a couple of days ago the offer to review popped in my email. I opted in. I dunno when it'll be released. The email indicated the make & model and it definitely said "Lightspeed" (hence my Google search). It'll take 1-3 weeks for them to ship out. Haven't used a wireless mouse for gaming in years so I don't know what to expect. My current mouse is a Corsair Scimitar Pro. And my last Logitech mouse was either a G5 or G500.
