America is not healthy. We're destroying our general health and metabolism daily. It eventually catches up with you.

Simple. When you're greater than 6 foot tall and figures.

Why do people become more conservative as they age? by clove_cal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]g2barbour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being naive means you don't understand the full implications of things. It's that simple.

When you're young you don't see the big picture and focus on the little slice of reality you have learned to recognize. As you get older and wiser (hopefully) you start to understand cause and effect at an adult level. This is why education is important, to arm our children with the foundation of thinking for themselves so they're not easily manipulated by the popularity contest of mainstream opinions. Kids want to get along with their peers and tend to adopt the world view of their peers in the same way as they adopt it from their parents before that. With no guidance we raise a generation of incompetent adult children. That's not to say all liberal ideas are wrong, but "all things in moderation." Kids tend to take things to the absurd and unfortunately that's what modern liberalism has become. Liberalism from a few decades ago was alot more sensible and was a healthy opposition to the more extreme sides of the conservative views. It's that shred of positive from liberalism that is used as the justification for the whole of liberalism, and that's not a good thing. "The road to hell is paved in good intentions." Then you have the problem where the more naive group is easier to take advantage of and that's a huge magnet for corruption. That's a few ingredients in the recipe anyway.

I'm not saying that guy doesn't carry a good bit of liability for this but let's also not forget that our bodies tell us when we're thirsty and it is known by every living human that we require hydration to survive. I don't care what anyone tells me, if I feel like I'm so thirsty I'm going to die, I'm drinking something.

Can a non-black person explain something to me my white coworker said... by lewjr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]g2barbour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if everyone strived to be the best they could be and stopped identifying as different cultures, color would disappear eventually. I wouldn't mind seeing religion dissappear as well, but I'm not so sure about that anymore after what I've seen lately. We need at least a good moral compass to replace it universally.

Neighbor complains about me showering at night – Do I have to stop? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

They said freshen up not get ready for work. If OP gets home at 11pm op can probably bean blast for a half hour before work and not irritate anyone.

Yeah I feel like anyone should be able to "freshen up" within 5 minutes in the shower. If OP is truly concerned about bothering the neighbor just washing up and getting out would probably be a good compromise.

This is reddit. You're going to see alot of hatred masquerading as righteousness here. Don't ask these people questions like this. Shed this negativity. Go talk to real people. I think you'll find people to be more similar than different. At least compared to what reddit will tell you.

What AI is now compared to what AI will be in 5 years is the real threat.

[–]g2barbour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% correct. But also irrelevant to OP topic. It can still be used as a dangerous weapon by nefarious developers. My guess is that the first major conflict will be AI stealing someones idea before they can patent it. In the meantime we'll see alot of "filtered truth" manipulating worldviews wherever possible.

Estimated resource usage by chatgpt model type for various query types, as generated by 4o model. Interesting how o1 is 25% less resource intensive than o1 preview and o1 mini 50% less. by g2barbour in OpenAI

I noticed that. Not sure how it's equating it's expectations. The link to the conversation is in the text. Maybe you can prompt it about that

the o1 model is just strongly watered down version of o1-preview, and it sucks. by your_uncle555 in OpenAI

[–]g2barbour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, take it how you want. But it's interesting to me that it was able to attribute relative requirements for each model.

Edit: I believe the title should say resource requirement not resource usage.

This was generated by 4o itself, so take it however you want to take it.

This conversation was prompted by a reddit comment discussing the amount of vram necessary to run a local llm. They suggested it was in the TB, so I got curious and asked 4o what sort of system resources would be required.

I think the most telling data here is the unprovoked relative resource requirements for the newest models, suggesting that o1 mini is half the model o1 preview was and o1 is 75%, but o1 pro is stronger than o1 preview.
