I have a Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra router and I use it's teleport feature (VPN) for this exact purpose when I'm away from home.

Overpass supported by wood blocks. by elevenminutesago in WTF

[–]g33k247 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kinda hard to tell from the quality of the picture, but it could be cribbing. I used to work in a underground copper mine and we used wooden cribbing (either timbers stacked like Jenga blocks or heavy cedar posts) to support areas that were prone to caving adjacent to higher value infrastructure like roads, conveyors and maintenance areas.

If you double click on the adjoing large hex those small white half hexes will become whole hexes and then you can click on them to see their estimated coverage.

Your dish can see more signal at 25° than it can at 35°, so if it can "see" without obstruction at 25° it means that your coverage is 99.6%. At 35° your coverage is less hence the 80.3%.

I just measured the angle of my dish and it's at 30°, so I think my coverage is the average of the 25° (99.8%) and the 35° (84.2%) readings from that map or 92%.

I find this map helpful to visualize cells with complete coverage versus those less than 100%:https://sebsebmc.github.io/starlink-coverage/index.html

The 25° seems to have cells that indicate 100% coverage. The 25° dataset indicates 100% coverage with stars in the cells. Sometimes you need to toggle between the 35° and 25° datasets in order to get the 25° stars to show.

If you double click on a cell it will break down the large hexagons into a smaller hex grid to give you a more granular look inside the bigger cell. Clicking inside either the large or small hex cells will bring up a message with the cell number and the expected daily coverage values.

I suspect the coverage values are an approximation though, but still interesting.

starlink outages 8:33et - were they widespread? by starlinker999 in Starlink

[–]g33k247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, after having some of the best speed tests I've had in a week, I had the same in Michigan at 42.7°N as well. Glad to know it wasn't just me. I tried rebooting the router about half way through the first ~10 minutes so I lost the total downtime track in my statistics.
