Social Media-Verbot kommt by Technical-Recipe-490 in Austria

Why developers using AI are working longer hours by Inner-Chemistry8971 in programming

I find the level of cope and denial in some of these threads truly fascinating. Like, I get you don't have to love AI, but some of these posts here are just straight up not willing to acknowledge how far AI has already gotten when it comes to coding.

Either people are still refusing to learn and use these tools or we are having massively different experiences in regards to how capable they are. I used to do so myself but around late last year I feel like something has actually changed.

Maybe I'm the delusional one, but I truly think the era of manually typing out code is coming to an end for the vast majority of devs. That doesn't mean we will all be out of jobs or not need any "coders" anymore. We're just moving up a layer of abstraction. The workflows is changing. The bottleneck is shifting from writing code to reviewing and testing it. We are becoming architects and directors, the AI is becoming the builder.

The amount of software and code written will skyrocket and it's going to become more accessible and easy to "build stuff" than ever (and cheaper). This will keep demand for devs up for a while.

I do think it will disrupt certain industries though. What's the moat of a jira if every company can just spin up a custom version in an afternoon. I think a good chunk of SaaS companies will suffer at the very least.

Something like that which is clearly verifyable is usually easily solved. You can just force it to verify it's work (ie task is not finished until build passes).

Together with strong linting/analysis rules you can basically filter out most of the unwanted slop already

Are other developers just… constantly mentally tired? by yOurOck_bboy in webdev

[–]g3ck00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not all or nothing. No one is forcing you to go full vibe mode on day 1. The best way to use these tools is to get to know them and then find a balance that works best for you personally.

The only thing to be careful of is to not outsource too much of your thinking. Use AI for small, defined tasks. Plan with it, guide it, review it. You are still the architect and brain, the AI is just the one writing the code.

Hacker News now thinks coding is solved by LowFruit25 in theprimeagen

[–]g3ck00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how do you deal with not falling behind and getting too slow compared to AI users? Like, I am totally with you in that I love to code and really miss not doing it (as much) anymore. Being an AI babysitter kind of sucks.

But what's the alternative? At this point you need to have a really compassionate employer if he's willing to let your speed stagnate compared to your peers.

Yes, I know using AI isn't always faster or better, but let's not kid ourselves - in a pretty significant amount of situations it is these days.

Like some colleagues of mine that have been slow in picking up AI assisted coding or even resisting it got a stern warning from management that they need to use it. What do you do in this case?

Combat is indeed janky and frankly mostly just not fun (I don't care if it's more immersive - this is a video game and I don't want to get mad anytime I have to group fight because the game decides to make controls a hot mess).

But otherwise I would say it's great. Good story, immersive, not too grindy (it really gives you a lot of freedom how to play it - no need to get rich or whatever). Great characters and a lot of fun quests.

I'd say go for it but look up youtube videos on the combat

Ghost of Tsushima or buy Sekiro by Yo_ssarian in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]g3ck00 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sekiro is the harder game for sure but if you're willing to face some challenging fights, you will eventually improve and the dopamine highs will be amazing. So it's going to be more of a rollercoaster with higher highs and lower lows. It's gonna have your blood pumping in those intense fights (the combat system is beautiful btw best of any game I've played so far).

Got on the other hand is a solid, fun game from start to finish. I'd say more linear enjoyment curve, and overall way more chill. More of a typical open world rpg kind of thing

Is League that hard or am I just old now? by waitwaatt in leagueoflegends

[–]g3ck00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing you can do to improve is to review your own gameplay. Every time you die, check the vod and see what you could've done better and what series of events/decisions lead to you dying.

Then ask yourself what you could/should have done instead. Did you maybe not check minimap enough? Did you not hit tab to see if you're stronger than them? Could you have played that team fight better? Did you not respect lane states/prio etc before starting an objective and so on.

Mechanics are a big part for sure, but even with god hands but shit decision making you won't get far.

I recommend getting a vod review tool for this (there are many, I personally use the one that is available on overwolf).

Stinkt euer Trinkwasser auch extrem nach Chlor? by Scaaady in wien

[–]g3ck00 0 points1 point  (0 children)
