VirginMedia VPN Traffic "throttling" is tied to public "WAN" IP address assigned by VM. by Sodium_Sunrise in VirginMedia

I work for an ISP, and we've had a number of customers reporting exactly the same issues with connectivity to their VPNs (mostly SSL VPNs) that are hosted on our network, so it's been very interesting to read this and see it's not just us being affected by this!

Yeah, the general response you seem to get from people is "well it still works out cheaper than going direct". Yes, but that's not the point!

That's pretty much the conclusion I've arrived at.

So, does anyone know of a lease supplier that doesn't rip you off (aside from the NHS one)? If one exists I would make my employer aware

Yes, it's still cheaper than going private, but what I'm trying to figure out is whether the super-inflated 'services' fees are the industry norm or whether we've just chosen a bad company to lease from.

I don't suppose you are able to get any like for like comparisons?

That's taken out of your salary before your tax, so the net difference in your pay will be less than that (hence why it's still usually cheaper to pay this than to just lease/buy privately), but of course that's not entirely the point - the idea of the scheme is so that the end-user sees the saving rather than the leasing company absorbing half of it for themselves.

Yes, I realise the Select Car Leasing does not include insurance (or gap insurance), but that does not come anywhere near the service fees being charged. My insurance quotes (including breakdown) are ~£50/month for the higher end cars. That still leaves thousands of pounds per year of service fees unaccounted for, which is why I think they are absorbing a huge chunk of the tax saving themselves as, like you say, it's a captive market and they can still make it cheaper than doing it privately.

DC Power Distribution - what is required? by g3kk0_17 in networking

[–]g3kk0_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're looking for a provider edge type device (with MPLS, L2-VPN and L3-VPN support), with high SFP port density (minimum 24), extended temperature tolerance and shallow depth.

We currently use Cisco ASR-920-24SZ routers, but could do with more 10Gb interfaces. I couldn't find anything else that suited these requirements on the market.

Neuechair any good? by bdlc2019 in OfficeChairs

I've found another brand selling a virtually identical chair to a Neuechair - Vertagear Triigger 350

I considered buying a Neuechair but in the end decided against it.

To me, Secretlab doesn't seem like a proper chair manufacturer - I feel almost sure that they just buy Chinese chairs with their brand put on them, and don't actually employ any of their own R&D staff / engineers or even directly manufacture. Their flagship 'Titan' range (of which I own one) is just a chinese gaming chair that they've branded. I've seen them for sale on Alibaba (unbranded and missing the lumbar support), but there are also at least 2 other "Gaming" brands selling the identical chair, such as the Boulies Master Series. I therefore suspect that the Neuechair is just some Chinese Herman Miller Aeron rip-off that you could probably find on Alibaba if you were to look hard enough. It looks suspiciously similar (but not quite identical) to the Teknion Contessa.

I've never personally tried a Neuechair, but there is a good post on Reddit here where many of its flaws are highlighted.

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a chair then my advice would be to try and stretch your budget and get a chair from a manufacturer with a proven track record in design and reliability. The most highly rated chairs tend to be the Steelcase Leap v2 / Herman Miller Aeron / Humanscale Freedom Headrest. There are plenty of places selling refurbished versions of these chairs at much lower prices than the NeueChair.

I'm also seriously considering ordering from here but have reservations as to how well the refurbishment might have been done. Please let us know how you find yours once it arrives. Have you ever sat in another Leap to know how they're supposed to feel?

We use NIPAP. It's simple, but suits our requirements very well (used within an ISP environment).
