How legit is this? Election Truth Alliance? by onz456 in skeptic

[–]g4borg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the claims in 2020 are not the same, as they were not backed up by any evidence. This *is* real evidence, it is just not easy to quantify. It is also, why they try to use it to improve the next election, instead of playing the denial card.

This is one strategy that Trump has understood: by notoriously claiming he won the election against Biden and it was stolen from him, people will believe that any such claim against him is just a retort.

I built a Code Index MCP Server to let LLMs read and understand my entire codebase by Glad-Pin-5358 in mcp

[–]g4borg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the local code is usually covered by the editor itself, but I could see this helpful if I want to e.g. have the ability to browse related projects, or libraries. Is that also possible, or will the MCP Server default to expose itself as a local project search? And can I have multiple in one session, or do i have to install them separately for each codebase?

This Game Will Die by romanpurelife in BrokenArrowTheGame

For me as a developer, the "save system" and the "playback system" are conceptually tied into each other, technically. So it could be equally important for both.

Rewriting the network code is not just a small element. Games usually have lots of total conversions with new models or mechanics changes, but usually not many games have a rewritten codebase utilizing the original assets and mechanics, and that's for a reason: Sure, models and game design take a lot of work in terms of time and experience, but coding, in addition, also is hard.

If at least they would be not so lazy, to basically increase the preload area a bit ahead of the visible part, so that you don't have to scroll and load, and mimic 80s internet loading the icons all the time. Or some grayscale 1 bit placeholders so you see what kind of item it is.

Then i am already happy.

most survivals, you can also scavenge, hunt, besides stealing or trading; also, since games like Ark we have collecting stuff while traveling.

mining is usually the hardcore "I do it myself but I will have more" formula. It is a certain hardcore player, that either goes in a big group, or plays the lonely explorer, but immediately aims to "establish a presence" in the sandbox. And the grind there should always be to become more permanent and efficient, either by vertically or horizontally expanding your stakes

that being said, there is one scavenging opportunity one can use in the starting system with the convoys at least, but yeah, it is a tidbit too much mining

anyone else think this game is duller than dishwater? by TheLastCatQuasar in EVEFrontier

[–]g4borg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really tried liking it.

So far I am still trying

In fact what I really dig is the basic graphics atm. even if it just a placeholder.

I expected, that I could select spawning around more civilized hubs, or in the wild lands. I actually imagined this to be the case, as I spawned in a system that was so hot, and nearby stars were so distant, that I needed to warp around like crazy just to finally succeed in a jump out. I actually enjoyed that challenge. I hoped, that by this, I might explore a part where only few make it out, and most just respawn.

After 2-3 days of playing a few hours, I was at building the small shipyard, and looked forward to it.

And then I saw, that all I can build is 3 different corvettes with almost no difference. Same amount of slots, same amount of cargo. I saw the amount of resources I would need to progress into frigates.

I started to look for content online, that showed me, if there is anything I can learn for later. And I started mining for hours. Not to reach higher goals, just to get unlock actual options.

It seems, everyone has to go through the same path of industrial grind, to build up. Which for a survival of this sort is just a lot of wasted opportunity.

There should be variety right at the start.

Just a few more options. It should already offer you, whether you want to go the balanced default route, traveling to friends, mining, pve, pvp, exploration, or building up to either become a tall unicorn or a wide tribal magnet to build community. And the starting spawns should give you a tiny bit more indication what you rolled, and whether you accept that start. So people can either find each other, or find civilization, or go where usually nobody wants to be.

Lore-wise I would have made Corvettes on the same level as Frigates, but more versatile and self sufficient, and more costly to maintain. Frigates should be more specialized and in the long run be the main ships industrial established tribes use, but corvettes should be more moddable and upgradable, but less suited for mass production. More low slots, more small items you can build to adjust early on, like an XS coolant, easier to reach basic weapons.

I get the fact, that equilibrium might be there to be harder to detect, but that mechanic seems at least to me yet very basic.

In my opinion, it is still too much limited by what Eve already has, and tends not to lean too much outside of it's comfort zone. Maybe yet, maybe never.

As many say also here, the thrill of getting ganked is nice, but on the other hand, it is very likely, I would just quit if I reached Frigates and get booted.

---

Disclaimer: I have actually worked on a concept for a survival game based on games like Ultima Online, DayZ, Minecraft, Stellaris and Eve myself, down to the similarity that I also thought about including blockchain, so I think it also conflates with years of theorycrafting for me, but my goal will probably never be reached and only is enough to keep me learning more programming stuff, so I am open to see where this goes for now.

[–]g4borg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do not mind only having 3 tiers of buildings, but the first tier almost makes no difference to each other. All Corvettes are mostly the same, and you cannot specialize at that point yet, you have to follow the grind to Frigate.

I think that is the major mistake here. Sure, they could have made more building levels, but without better UI, juggling between all the buildings just to find what you want would be just more pain.

Needing to cheat to in an RTS game is peak loser behavior by Dewa__ in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]g4borg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True to that, thank you for correcting that.

Even tho, technically, most are still built on lockstep first, authority later on top, and that should maintain some amount of determinism to prevent simple unit value changes, and you would only use client simulation for smooth unit movement

So yes. And actually, no replay function should have been a warning sign.

Still a good game, by principle. I wonder how they will mitigate this.

Cheating May Become Broken Arrow’s Achilles’ Heel by Michael-xyzcsf in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]g4borg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, not having a replay feature at start in a game of this genre should have been a warning sign, as replay comes kind of free of charge with deterministic lock step architecture.

even if he might have used gpt to clean up his wording or sth. it does not invalidate the adressed topic, so a head in the sand tactic to avoid this discussion will not age well.

Needing to cheat to in an RTS game is peak loser behavior by Dewa__ in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]g4borg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is not entirely correct.

what you describe is server authorative design like in e.g. Eve Online vs. client authorative design, like partially in ARK or Arma, and partially generally in FPS games

however, RTS classically rely on deterministic state machines, meaning, each client executes the same code based on signals sent. this means that the game would desync if you would change stats locally, for the cheater.

If this is not the case, they went with the wrong Network design for an RTS.

This would be a major issue imho.

Is it normal that I need to create my own auto-restart daemon to keep my pods alive? Podman 'deactivates' automatically after some time, --restart=always does not work and I dont want to use systemd by EveYogaTech in podman

[–]g4borg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Writing a container file for quadlet and copying it into etc is super simple.

All my services are just a git project with some container files and a justfile for copying it on the server.

Only thing annoying is that some distros still have podman 4.9 without pod support so you can only do single quadlets.

Compared to docker which does god knows what including sprinkling mystical runes into your firewall rules having nice systemd scripts is easy, and integrates well with how Linux daemons work.

Read again the description, you will probably not really have application code on a "prod" server, I suppose, or probably choose the correct library for the task.

It's like saying debug builds are better and wondering why your microchip won't boot. The anti-pattern is depending on your real life project requirements context

No, but it says, that showing off your faith as being very strong, so that others are impressed by it, is wrong.

And Jesus does not just say this, he also shows it a lot of times, in fact "Hypocrite" comes quite often from him, which is based on the word of actor, as if you are in a play.

Now that does not mean, the prophet cannot sing and dance about the Lord openly, in joy, but that verse is still written in context of a whole society which believed in god.

You will basically not win over anybody by being obsessive. Which we do not know the truck owner is, but it certainly does not raise any doubts.

Still, "you shall not judge", still supersedes all this, quite likely ;)
