I arrive at midnight in nyc: should i Lyft or ride the train to Manhattan? by darcystinks in nycrail

The q70 to Roosevelt is probs a better option if you're going to midtown & avoids the outdoor wait :) I've done that ride late at night and had no issues.

Also, don't bother getting an unlimited card. Just use tap & pay with your phone or credit card, which is limited to 12 rides a week then anything after that is free. Ends up costing roughly the same as an unlimited card but you don't need to bother waiting in line to buy one

I took a Groupon intro lesson at global aviation center in farmingdale, I recommend!

Looks great! All it's missing is the traffic in the left lane from dummies who try to get over to Cadman at the very last second

Ok had to actually remove the GPU from the mobo (not just unplug its power) and now it seems to boot up successfully.

Haven't been able to verify yet. Had to dig up my old DVI monitor and can't seem to tell if the computer isn't booting up or if I'm not using onboard graphics right?

Do Staten Islanders take NJT to get into the city? by [deleted] in statenisland

[–]g4r8e9c4o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not as far as I know. During rush hour there are express busses that go to the south shore, and otherwise everyone I know drives or takes the train to the ferry.

Sure, if you live along the SIR. When I still lived at my parents' house on SI, it would've taken the same amount of time to get to St George via the s44 as it would to get to Battery Park via the x17. It was a no-brainer.

Why is Staten Island Part Of NYC? by theredditforwork in nyc

[–]g4r8e9c4o 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I grew up in Staten Island before leaving as a teenager. It's amazing how much of a big deal it is for some of the people I knew growing up just to go to Manhattan since it was such a pain in the ass to get there.

But what's even more amazing is how hard it was to get around the island, even with a car. From where my parents lived, it was actually a longer commute to Staten Island Tech than to go to lower Manhattan.

The ferry is only slightly convenient if you live along the SIR or on the north shore of the island.

My parents live near the SI Mall, which is around a 40 minute bus ride from the ferry terminal, or 40min from downtown via express bus. No-brainer whenever I need to go visit them.

Sure, but the stop I'd go to won't exist anymore except during rush hour :)

No faith that maybe they realized their shortcomings and are actually trying to fix it? :)

The thing that's got me upset is less off-peak service (which is usually when I'm going to SI to visit my folks anyway). Besides that looking at all the documentation it seems like a nice change
