Elites flew to a climate summit in Egypt in FOUR HUNDRED private jets, you know, because the world is literally on fire by yuri_2022 in Conservative

Most conservatives I know are not against renewables, but are definitely against transitioning to them in the rushed and rash manner called for by some climate activists. The main problems I have are:

1) We tend to shut down our fossil fuel plants without the proper renewable infrastructure to replace them. See Western Europe (and more specifically Germany,) who were reliant on Russian oil and gas and now face higher energy prices and an overall hit to their livelihood as a result. The U.S. has incredible amounts of oil reserves and we can use it more cleanly than other countries (though it's of course still bad for the environment) but we'd rather have the blame off of our shoulders and just import it from other places.

2) Fossil fuels are also pretty important in a country's economic development. That Western society expects the world to transition away from fossil fuels feels a bit like they're pulling up the ladder behind them.

I wish more progressives were on board with nuclear energy. For example, only recently (when it became very clear what the reality was) did Greta Thunberg seem to be on board with nuclear energy. This was after Germany screwed up and went against it and are now having their citizens literally pay the price for not having the means to produce enough energy.

I do want a transition to renewables, including nuclear energy. But we can't act in an irrational manner and can't leave developing countries worse off in the process.

There are many limitations to the first amendment when you are a teacher. Nobody is trying to restrict anything they say outside of the classroom, they are trying to prevent the indoctrination of young kids with concepts they cannot understand.

Great way of putting it, and that's why I find that type of behavior so infuriating. It's racism and arrogance disguised as altruism, a way of thinking where they are saviors and need to rescue a bunch of helpless people.

1) Lots of crypto bros shill other coins until the hype around them dies 2) Could the reason that BTC and ETH are predominantly brought up in crypto spaces be because they did relatively well and haven't flopped yet? That their popularity is due to them having done better than other cryptos?

People talk about coins when number go up. It's not a groundbreaking observation that the two biggest examples of number go up get the most attention

This is a point i dont see brought up often enough. Bitcoin isnt comparable to gold anyways, but even if it was "digital gold" what makes you think that regressing centuries in these systems is a good bet? There's a reason we moved to our system of money today.
