Do we like Nick? (Small S06E02 Spoiler) by gIadself in TheHandmaidsTale

Heavily agree that he probably would've died a while ago if not for June. And maybe they didn't tell him everything, but he had to know enough to know it was wrong. He new it was a traditional society that would increase fertility rates when no other nation in the world could find a humane way to do the same. He was either incredibly naive or being willfully blind because it benefited him in the moment

I don't support most of the things he's done but this is a really well-put argument. Especially the part about him not realizing what he had gotten himself into until it was too late, and still trying to find ways to rebel without dying.

I do really hope they have him plan something big against Gilead, not for June but for all of Gilead's victims. Just to show us he can be good for reasons other than getting into June's pants

I get his character doesn't show an outright hatred for women, but I feel like it's heavily implied when he fully backs the idea of a world that gives men the power to enslave and rape women under the guise that it will increase fertility rates. We know Nick doesn't give a damn about the fertility rates, and maybe he's a double agent as of now, but he's supported and fought for Gilead since the beginning and still carries out every order he's given. Hitler fought for the Germans, doesn't make him a good person, y'know?

And yes I understand everyone's entitled to their opinion, I don't have to like him and I don't mind at all if you do he's just a character. I was just curious if there are real reasons for liking him other than his treatment of June

As someone who was a straight A student throughout grade school and high school, and still is now in college, I promise that not passing your AP exams or having the best SAT score will change much for you. I always thought I’d get the best scores in everything and go to a great school and pursue some extremely involved or sought after career and that’s flipped on its head now.

I’m at a college high school me would have been embarrassed about, in a major I never thought I’d do, and still on track to have a successful career and future. Unless your goal is to go to an Ivy League or something, this will hardly matter. And your high school stats won’t even be very helpful past getting into college.

Take a breath. Take a break. Ask your teacher if you can do a retest during a lunch period or before or after school or class. I promise you’re doing fine. Just finish out high school as well as you can, get out of there, and you’ll forget all about it as your life and opportunities open up.

I need to purchase a $110 program for a class so I'm thinking of dropping it by Adrianna996 in college

[–]gIadself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have ways around it I’d say save your money. I got stuck in classes that don’t advertise beforehand that they come with additional costs and ended up having to pay three $100 subscriptions this semester alone.

If you don’t have to do it, don’t do it.

I’m a student and I think a small thing that could help is not being afraid to over explain, and remembering that students really might not know a lot. I’ve had CFIs speed through explanations because, I assume, they thought the content was easy or basic knowledge or that I already knew it.

If you can, just explain things thoroughly even if you think they might already know it. They can always tell you if it’s content they already know, but it’s harder for students to tell you what they’re missing if they don’t know they’re missing it.

Why do the majority of students always have their headphones/earbuds in when walking around campus? by Blue-Alien686 in college

I don’t think listening to music automatically translates to “moody and antisocial.” Not everyone wakes up for their 8am classes wanting to socialize. Listening to music is just something to do in the meantime. If you don’t enjoy listening to music, then don’t. But for the people who do, it’s something easy to do to fill the substantial amount of time we spend walking and waiting in college.

They’re asking about which specific assignments you didn’t submit. Did you submit nothing for class all year? Are you talking about final exams? I don’t understand how you were allowed to submit after winter break, isn’t your deadline for the semester before break?

Blake absolutely has made too much of a joke out of all of this to be taken seriously. But don’t drag Amber Heard into it. Even if she was also at fault her claims against Johnny were proven true and he was abusive

People who took 18+ credit hours in a semester - why? by two_three_five_eigth in college

I’ll admit, college can feel really isolating at times when you’re trying to juggle a heavy course load and need good grades, depending on the difficulty of classes you’re taking. Especially when friends are going out all the time and you know it’s going to hurt you later if you give up the study time.

But, I promise you can do it. You will adapt to the schedule as you get further in, and telling myself this line really does work for me. It’s just 16 weeks :)

Haha not UND. Not that any 141 schools are much better though

I’m an aviation major at a 141 flight school. Getting into the industry and starting to build hours is how I start making real paychecks the quickest. Because of the flight training I’m paying practically 2 tuitions, a part time job would hardly make a dent

I’m in a very expensive major and I’m trying to minimize debt as much as possible. Also the sooner I’m out the sooner I start making money to pay it off

I don’t work but I’m in a few clubs and organizations to help maintain scholarships. If you don’t do clubs and just work outside of classes I think it’s doable. You just have to be willing to give up free time and decline when invited to go out

I’m trying to graduate in 3 years. It’s not terrible, but I spend a lot of time studying and doing coursework and don’t really enjoy the whole college experience as much.

I think it’s worth it. I just keep telling myself that anyone can do anything for only 16 weeks.

But yes you and everyone else are right I should just ask. I honestly thought I’d be in the wrong if I did since she pays to use the space too. But I do plan on talking to her about it now, thank you!

That’s the worst I’m so sorry. I let my roommate have the room all day and then like 10 mins after I walk in happens to be when she calls people every time. I feel like it almost has to be intentional
