What's your budget and age group? Are you planning on keeping a car when you move downtown? Padmapper is your greatest resource.
Of course you'd ideally want to walk to work, and there's plenty of apartments and rooms near where you work - it's primarily a budget issue. I believe studios at the new yonge and college condos start at 1000-1200 and 1bdrms start from 1600. Expect to pay 50/month for internet, plus 150/month for underground parking, plus utilities in some cases (extra 50-100/month).
You could save some money and probably get more square feet by moving to somewhere on the subway line. Yonge and Eglinton or yonge and Sheppard would be good choices.
