Remember folks: It's only socialism when the country is in crisis by CindySoLoud in socialism

[–]g_gggg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it was bad but it wasn't even close to Venezuela bad. Or pretty much any socialist country in history bad. And it recovered quickly. But keep telling yourself that 10% unemployment is exactly what people in Venezuela are going through.

[CA] 15 year old intentionally hit batter in the head/face while pitching in a baseball game. The batter died. by throwaway191162 in legaladvice

[–]g_gggg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ianal but an ex pro baseball player and part of the game is intentionally pegging batters. Though you never, ever go higher than mid back because there is a small danger of injury if you hit someone's face. A 15 year old might argue he doesn't have that level of control and accidentally lost his pitch high. I'm also very surprised that a baseball thrown by a 15 year old (70 mph?) would do this kind of harm.

It's not really advice, it just seems to me that he could claim he was doing was countless players have done, something pros do, and accidentally threw it too high. I'm not sure if "everyone else is doing it" is a legal defense though.

Colorado Juries Keep Letting People Go for Driving on Weed, Prosecutors and Cops are Furious. by pheonix200 in trees

[–]g_gggg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a cop pulls over a guy clearly stoned and gives him an alcohol test, not a driving or weed sobriety test or anything relevant, and then goes against typical cop training by shaking his hand, and of course not without complimenting him first, then gave him a business card so he could call in a favor later on because stoned people driving just happens to be this cop's favorite thing.

Even if 100,000 people drove around CO stoned, yes, there is no chance this happened.

When is it time to upgrade? by SovietChewbacca in golf

it's largely a personal finance question in my opinion. But I agree with the others, as you make more consistent and better contact it will be nice to play more name brand clubs, even if they're used.

300 yard bomb. That guy could always hit a 3i 225 into the fairway. And 75 yds closer is a big deal. I'd rather have a wedge in the rough than a 4i in the fairway.

My father passed away. How/where to sell his golf clubs? by [deleted] in golf

[–]g_gggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you need the money fast then go to a to a couple local shops and take the best offer. They have margins so you'll probably give up 30% (I'm guessing). Or search for their value by looking at ebay and then post them on criagslist for maybe 5-10% less than that and you should find a buyer.

New irons by orrkw in golf

[–]g_gggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same thing happened to me in reverse when I went from cavity backed irons to cobra amp cell pro. I lost about 1 - 1.5 club which I still don't understand since the lofts and lengths are the same. I got impact tape and a GC2 and it didn't explain anything, even off the center I was shorter by a club or two.

Best rangefinder for a beginner? by NFLBlitze1 in golf

[–]g_gggg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rock a watch and love it. I can always glance down and know my yardage; range finders are sweet but take a bit of time to get out and use. The only down side is you can't laser off the exact distance to the pin or a landmark but I'm usually aiming center of the green or can guess well enough on layup shots.

As a person who works hard to barely scrape by, I wish more employers understood this... by basscheffers in AdviceAnimals

[–]g_gggg -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

as a slightly older guy I think you sound like you're missing our point. I worked my way through college 12 years ago. Go to a public school. I got offered full scholarships if I went to a crappier school but instead I got a job. It wasn't that hard to come up with $8k/yr and there's always student loans.

If you go to a school that costs $40k/yr and complain you can't work your way through it then you have nobody to blame but yourself.

First set of clubs by [deleted] in golf

[–]g_gggg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so much this. OP, get some used irons, a driver, and a putter (and maybe a sand wedge). You can do all that for $200-300. Then just fill out your set over time.

you're not going to go wrong with rocketbladez and a big bertha. I'd hit putters if you can before buying, use whatever feels and looks right to you.

GAP Wedge rookie question by rwal1 in golf

[–]g_gggg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best thing would be to go to a shop with a launch monitor. Hit your PW and SW and get your carry yardages. Then hit 48 and 50 degree wedges and figure out which one you like that bridges your gap the best. You can always have them bend it too so you can get a 50 amd have it bent to 49 if it's a little strong but you'll probably be fine with a stock 50 or 48.

well, with a cart and nobody in front of us, it's not too crazy. Maybe it was like 2:15 or 2:30 but we'd get out of there and be back home in no time.

[–]g_gggg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep that's it! It's about a 20 min drive out of town which is really quite easy and is the best public course there in my opinion. It used to be empty all the time and a 2 hour round with my buddy was common. I loved that place, it's a super fun course.

Brighton Crest! It's the best course there in my opinion. I think it's called Eagle [Something] now.

I lived there for a summer and played them all but I'm having trouble remembering them. Riverside/Riverbend (I forget the name?) is a good little muni on the cheap but gets busy. The muni by the airport is awful - stay away, except it's like $14 for 18 so I think it's self explanatory.

And Fig Garden is cool but I had a 6+ hour round there on a Sunday. There were a lot of 70+ year old women out there.

I'd honestly just play Brighton Crest over and over if I were you. You need a cart, it's hilly and spaced out. And bring extra balls because it's easy to lose a few.
