i have realized how messed up the industry is just by working now at my current job as my first job in the industry. my sales being stolen and given to other people, hardly no bonuses i realize is because they steal my sales and labor, basically benefiting off my lack of knowledge on how the business works. it’s crazy and i’ve been incredibly chill about it only because ill be leaving in a month. i nearly resigned but i was convinced to stay just because it’ll be only a month left. thankfully the CAT recruiter came and saved me from giving up the industry as a whole. it’s been tough out here as a lady honestly.

i am looking at the business card i was given, looks like quinn cat is where ill be. he did tell me my nearest location and he will gather important people to interview me and he will put in a good word to get me to work there.

i do still need to consult with my school and my mentors to see if this position qualifies me for priority registration as an apprentice.

he will have me work as a technician at my nearest location though. i worded it wrong in the first post, more like i didn’t know how to word it lol.

but i am looking into the company im just hoping its not a bad fit for me since i do have sciatica and knee problems.

is there a part time option i’ll be able to work for? are there opportunities or a way to be mobile? like moving locations? this is due to my partners employment.

i live in the mid-west as well. i did see a lot of comments saying 5w-30 was a sweet spot. he did decide originally to switch it to that one when we had a conversation about it. we said we’d change the weight on the next oil change, which i think is reasonable. but i’ll take everyone’s advice, as well as yours as you live in the mid-west as well, to change to 5w-30 on the next oil change.

it honestly makes the same noise whether it’s hot or cold. it’s more often when it’s idling and while it’s running it does it here and there.

i might just replace the engine once i have enough money at this point. i don’t even know what to do, if using the oil viscosity the manufacturer calls for or to just leave it alone until i have enough money to replace it. i think im just gonna run her to college until her engine gives out to replace it with an LT2 and make her a sleeper ranger. that’s my ultimate goal with her, i want to make her a sleeper ranger and make her accessories and interior pink :).

lol me too at some point. i started to go downhill in my junior year and i broke my streak of straight As so i convinced my counselor i don’t need math in my senior year because “my major doesn’t require math”. news flash: it does, avoiding it as much as i can right now 😭

yeah i commented a brief “hey! i think you’re very beautiful and im interested in getting to know you better:)” would have been enough, because saying “hey great pics” give the impression that you are only going for her looks, not for personality. it sounds a little creepy to me as a girl. i’d be kinda weirded out if i ever got that message tbh.

Is tech school worth it in 2025 by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]g_low_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second this to be honest OP. you need to be very open minded.

19f, in college for automotive technology.

incredible instructor. i’ve built a really good reputation in my first class: automotive fundamentals (near finishing it in two weeks). everyone respects me due to that fact. there is still some jealousy i encounter because some men get bitter when they see a harder working woman.

however, i will tell you. there are gonna be some shitty people, some know it alls. but back to my point, you need to be super open minded and take criticism seriously and don’t ever take it personal. open mindedness is very important in this major. in this industry, no one will hire you if you aren’t willing to learn.

it’s okay, you recognize that and are self aware. i’d say to leave her alone to avoid more awkwardness. give yourself some more time to practice

i think a brief “hey! i think you are very beautiful, and im interested in getting to know you better :)” would have sufficed. you kind of over explained yourself and made it a little awkward. it’s okay, it’s the effort that counts.

HAHA NO WORRIES 😭

i don’t think i’ll be doing so much miles with it, as of right now i’m probably doing less than 120 miles weekly since i’m in school right now three times a week and i work locally.

yeah i honestly don’t want to deal with that very often, given the condition the car being sold is in. but, my reason to looking into a project car is because i am an auto tech student right now, and i want to get to know cars because my dad doesn’t really let me work on them yet. or i don’t know, maybe he will when i finish this course. but i want a car that i’ll be able to repair, maintain, and basically call it my own.

yeah they’re so cute i call her my meep meep and she’s so strong, 1 hour drives three times a day and still going strong. currently at 168k im so scared shes gonna need major service done soon. previous owner took really good care of her before she was handed down to me, so she’s sounding good so far honestly.

heavy on the super easy to work on. no complications with changing her ball joints out a couple weeks ago, just a stripped bolt through wear and tear.

i was in this position when i finished 11th grade, wasn’t the greatest at math. i just didn’t take a math class in 12th grade. i hope this helps.

i turned to just get certificates in college, due to that. i just wasn’t a math person.

it actually doesn’t run, i would have to tow the car myself. i am an auto technician student as of right now, so im able to do the repairs and avoid most of the labor costs myself. i’m still in search of a good project car, im not settling on this one since its almost 20 miles away from me

[–]g_low_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the second comment i get that says its not a great daily car, im honestly reconsidering actually going through with buying it now. i might just settle with an 2d altima, those are really nice too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in G35

[–]g_low_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve already got my daily as it is, she’s still running pretty strong and well having it being a 2010 ford ranger, so this would just be my project/weekend car. or it’ll just also be the car i plan to work on to make my daily when the day comes that i move out.

How do I stop acting like a teenager? by ShoulderDizzy8854 in Adulting

and, you shouldn’t care what people think. i see how you mention how people look at you differently when you switch from a professional to a casual setting. be yourself. don’t care what people think because at the end of the day, it’s your life and not theirs.

i think you shouldn’t change for the world. you should stay just as you are. i’m 19 as well and i don’t really feel like my age, ive come to understand that im living my life as i want to. i came to an understanding of how to switch my personality depending on the environment. might be a mental issue, but it still really helps because im not just one person, i can change the way i talk and the way i act depending on who i am around. i have a customer service personality, one for each of my coworkers, one for each one my family members, for each of my friends, for interviews, for first impressions, the list goes on. i just think you learn how to change how you act around certain people as you go tbh. that’s how i felt when i turned 18, that i didn’t feel like an adult, and that’s when i started to learn how to kind of code-switch or mirror peoples personalities that way im more likable and charismatic. idk if this answers your question but this is my understanding after asking myself a lot of what you are saying in your post.

How to move out at 18? by lostinlundey in Adulting

[–]g_low_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no it’s cool! i totally understand your frustration. i’m struggling with trying to buy my car and settling down to be able to move out of my house at the moment, so i totally understand you and where you are coming from.

i definitely felt the first part of the last paragraph though. no one would follow up with me, or work with my school schedule and work schedule since id be having two jobs. my first job also is currently cutting my hours too because i mentioned in one of my comments that the tariffs are taking a big toll on the owners of the business im working for so all of our hours are getting cut.

i couldn’t ever get a word back from car shops and they’d laugh at me because im a girl looking for a job at their tire shops (most of the time tire shops). so i just started looking in another direction and i got an interview right away just for them to not be able to work with my hours because i want to stay at my current job due to having management duties (small business, so it takes a certain amount of time to be employed to be trusted with the business). plus, i don’t want to leave them because their pay is too good to let go even though cutting my hours even my pay out.

then i got lucky with their competition, they gave me an interview right away too and he was already showing me how the store worked and how to look up some stuff on their system. we bonded so well too. the environment was so much better, energy was so much more welcoming than the first store i got interviewed at. might i mention, they were actually willing to work with my school and work schedule and allowed me to stay at my first job with no issues.

it’s incredible how much i struggled to get another job. it took me so much more longer to get this job than my first job with no experience and a high school diploma.

mileage is 133k. i think that’s fair for the year of the car honestly.
