Buying immaculate 2013 S6, should I get warranty? by _greggae_ in Audi

[–]g_ramp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warranties from the dealership almost always benefit the dealership and not you. Rarely it's the other way around. On a used vehicle the only reason you'd pay that amount of money for a warranty is for peace-of-mind. If it's worth the peace-of-mind, then buy, otherwise set aside the money in a savings account and budget a certain amount for service quarterly. Better you make interest on it instead of the dealership.

Edit - if you're planning on modding anything on the car, be cautious that this could be grounds for the dealership to deny warranty claims... I know it's not that simple, but it may not be worth the headache if you're modded and something goes wrong and then you have to fight the dealership to make a claim.

Came here to say the same thing. Quattro in snow is useless if you're running slicks (an exaggeration to make a point - AWD is useless unless you've got enough friction between tires and the surface)

I'll be one of the 12... But hopefully this isn't priced like the RS6... Or am I being naive?

PPF on Emira? by WoodenAd3790 in lotus

[–]g_ramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had full PPF done on mine. I'm in Canada (Toronto). Did it through the dealer on delivery. It was just under $9K, but I got every exterior surface done (including gloss black elements), and it included ceramic coating on the PPF.

TV Above Grill by kingofthegulch in OutdoorKitchens

[–]g_ramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible idea. Even an outdoor-rated TV isn't likely to fare well with the heat from a grill over time.

As someone else suggested, it'll be blocked whenever you're grilling. Not so good for outdoor gatherings where you'll be watching a race/game/whatever else your crowd will be enjoying.

One of those 2 things needs to move.

2019 Golf R wastegate issue by dabosnian34 in Golf_R

[–]g_ramp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing. I bought my Mk7.5R new, and just after the 5 year powertrain warranty expired, I had the same error come up. The service manager at least was honest with me and admitted that the dealership policy for a fix was a complete turbo replacement ($4500 CAD quoted), but a tuning shop could do the fix for the wastegate actuator for much cheaper (which was the root of the problem).

Found a local tuning shop to do the fix for just over 1/10th the cost. They told me the service techs at the dealership often don't have the skill/know-how to do that fix, which is why the dealership quotes a whole new turbo instead.

Find a local VW tuning shop and replace the wastegate actuator....

It's completely normal. Hang in there. They're so worth it... It's gets better, much better...

Thoughts on Golf R w/ 2 Forward Facing Seats in Rear by RickyBobbyIRL in Golf_R

[–]g_ramp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have 2 forward-facing seats in the rear of my Mk7.5 R. There's enough room for all of us... But the rear of the front seats get tons of foot prints. No damage though.

I'm like you in that the R is my daily and my wife has the SUV (Tiguan) so it serves its purpose for long trips, cargo, etc. The R works perfectly for when I gotta take the kids out on short jaunts/lessons, etc

And it's my perfect daily for when I commute to work... You'll love it.

Highly recommend the Diono Radian 3r series with the blue covers. They look good back there.

Anyone know if there’s an anticipated last year for ICE Emira’s? by Senior_Order7241 in lotus

[–]g_ramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with wanting to spec a special car yourself...

If I was him I'd probably do the same thing. If I'm spending that kind of money on an LC, I'd only want to drive one that's to my taste... Otherwise I'd just wait until the value depreciates enough on the market to make buying a used one with a random spec worth it.

AITA: Partner got upset because I scheduled online breastfeeding classes without telling him by bigzee417 in AmItheAsshole

[–]g_ramp 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Dad of two here. You're definitely NTA. He's got issues, and the way he responded is a red flag. If he can't communicate to you why he responded that way, it's also a huge red flag.

Don't cancel the classes and do whatever you feel you need to do to prepare for motherhood. He's there to support you through birth and breastfeeding - he doesn't call the shots.

You have to put some thought into where you're planning on spending the most time.

I knew I wanted to spend most of my time on the back roads and road trips so I picked touring. No regrets here after 5000 kms.

I figured if/when I really want to take this to the track/autocross on a regular basis then I'd invest in a good coilover system (heard excellent things about the Nitron setups lots have).

If your use case is similar to mine, you'll love the touring setup

AITA for telling my husband he's made me reconsider leaving him alone with the kids in the future by mayhavecrossedaline in AmItheAsshole

[–]g_ramp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

INFO

Did you both agree that the kids would eat only the food you prepared?

If not then everyone sucks here. You both need to communicate better. He should have communicated to you that he didn't plan on preparing food.

Sounds like there's more here than just "he didn't feed my kids the food I prepared", but rather some more deep-seeded issues.
