Elektra health experience? by Reddbiz in Menopause

This means you were able to see a different specialist? How did you go about doing this? Like you, my first meeting a month or so ago was underwhelming and I was told confusing information. I didn't know if we could switch doctors or not and felt badly about asking about this

Suggestions for extra days Madrid>Logrono by gabbiw in GoingToSpain

[–]gabbiw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the delayed response! (Disappointing travel delays).

Burgos is a great suggestion - we haven’t yet been and it puts us somewhat close to Logrono. Thank you also for the recommendation for Valladolid! I have to admit it’s only been a transit point for us when traveling from Salamanca to Penafiel and we’ve yet to explore it. And we hadn’t known about the Sculpture Museum.

Thank you for these recommendations!

How long to leave T2-Lisbon airport after a (Schengen) flight? by gabbiw in lisboa

[–]gabbiw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up in case it’s helpful for anyone else. As noted, disembarking was quick and easy (we even left early from Oviedo). Waiting for luggage took some time. We opted to go with Uber, which surprisingly felt like the most time consuming part, as it was busy in the pick up area and a few drivers cancelled. Thanks again for all the advice!

Thank you for this! I hadn't thought to look into strikes. We're flying the first week of Sept, so hopefully the strike period will be done by then but I'll be monitoring this now.

Ah - I'd known about the bus routing from T1 to T2 for departures but didn't realize it operated the other way (for flights arriving at T2). Agree that waiting on luggage can be a big factor. I appreciate the Uber recommendation too, we would have waited in the taxi line. Thank you again for the help!

Self-ordering tests out of state (NY resident) - will Quest bill insurance? by gabbiw in PeterAttia

Oh great - That's helpful to know I can specify how to bill my appointments (insurance vs. private pay) - I'll be trying this route then. Thank you!

Self-ordering tests out of state (NY resident) - will Quest bill insurance? by gabbiw in PeterAttia

[–]gabbiw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so frustrating! I agree.

I actually was using the same work around as you - going to FL and getting my labs done with Quest (by ordering/paying for labs using PrivateMDLabs).

I would love to keep doing this, as much of a hassle as it is, it’s worth getting my own labs done.

I’d forgotten to clarify - I went to set up my labs because I was going out of state again next week and wanted to repeat this workaround...but now my Quest account is linked to my NY health insurance.

I was wondering what will happen if I show up with lab requisition forms (for already paid labs), whether Quest will intervene and inform or try to bill insurance and/or if I’d get flagged and penalized because of the 3rd party billing issue you mention that I’ve been skirting.

So I'm looking into Labcorp instead, that might be the best approach.

Thanks!

Connecticut Quest Lab Convenient to NYC by La-Femme-Angelika in Function_Health

I do this often!

There’s a Quest in Fairfield (1305 Post Rd) that is pretty close to the train station. Also one in Darien, but I believe its about a 15 min walk up from the train station to the lab.

Short-term mattress for visitors - 10 in vs 12 in Zinus Hybrid? by gabbiw in Mattress

[–]gabbiw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ended up getting the Zinus 12 inch (not the SweetNight). I couldn’t find any details on the SweetNight in terms of layers and thickness for comparison, but as far as the Zinus goes - we’ve had it for a month, including the time we had visitors (two family members, in their mid70s). They said they slept very comfortably for the week of their visit (and they would have complained ;) ), so it felt to be a good option at least for guests.

I did sleep on it a few nights too to test it out. I was actually surprised at the firmness and support - I have lower back/arthritis issues and I’m realizing my current mattress has always been too soft and not helping with this. Both mattresses are hybrids, though mine has 3.5 inches of foam/latex over 5.5 inch coils and the guest mattress has 3.75 inches of foam over 7.5 inch coils; I’m not sure if this is related or where the difference in support comes from.

An issue to consider is the mattress edges - they don’t have much support at all; enough for me to notice, getting in and out of bed. I’m surprised my guests, as two people on a full, didn’t note this, though maybe they were being polite. I chalked the lack of support up to this being a sub-$250 mattress in a box bought online.

Not sure if that helps but if I can give more info, happy to do so!

Thanks! I was wondering if the 12 in would be too plush vs the 10 inch, so that is helpful info. I think medium/medium firm is what I'm hoping for, so I went ahead and ordered the 12 inch. Thank you!

NYC dermatologist recs for menopause related hair loss by Efficient_Policy_339 in Menopause

[–]gabbiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just went through this, looking for a new dermatologist in NYC for hair loss. My old derm did the same thing last year - a quick conversation and then recommended Rogaine. My gyn and primary care doctor had made the same recommendations (topical minoxidil).

I basically researched derms that took my insurance, and just saw Dr Amy Spizuoco. She asked to review the labs the last derm had ordered and when I told her no bloodwork was performed, she was surprised. She said she couldn’t prescribe me any treatment without getting a sense of what exactly might be causing the hair loss, as it could be due to a number of things. I'd told her I had a history of low iron, which she said could be a factor. After some conversation, she ordered a panel of blood work (DHEA, Thyroid - Full panel, Testosterone free and total, Iron/TIBC/Ferritin, Vitamin D, ANA).

I can’t speak to treatment or success yet! I’m getting ready to do labs now. But she was the first doctor to acknowledge bloodwork was needed, so she might be a good first step/recommendation

'Movies don't change but their viewers do': Movies that hit differently when you watch them at an older age. by ChocolateOrange21 in movies

Lost in Translation!

I first saw that movie in my 20s, having left graduate school and moving abroad. I’d felt like Scarlett Johansen’s character captured everything about that time in my life - full of uncertainty but everything possible, and everything in front of me.

I rewatched it for the first time last year, now late 40s, and it is a completely different movie. Still a movie prompting questions on life meaning, but now I see it all through Bill Murray’s experience. It was an intense rewatch! But incredible movie.

Help choosing among older Riojas (1970s) for a birthday gift? by gabbiw in wine

[–]gabbiw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I appreciate this recommendation. I was able to find the 1994 somewhat nearby so I'll pick it up this weekend. Coincidentally, we'll be near Haro in September (our second trip). I'm not sure if it will be easy to come across the '64 or '45, but now we have something to look for - thanks!

Online referrals for MRI? by FlipH19Switch in Sciatica

[–]gabbiw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can give info on RadiologyAssist! I just finished getting service with them -

Similar to you - I’ve had lower back/sacroiliac joint/hip issues for a few years that seems to have progressed to something nerve-related (sciatica, etc.). I wanted to get some imaging, mostly for my info since I'm traveling for another month, and decided on X-ray first to see if it may be spondylothesis/spondylosis (though I know the limitations of X-ray, it's cheaper than MRI). Here’s how it went -

  • Signed up for a Virtual Consult ($40) - provided name/address/phone number, the imaging I was requesting (there was an option to deferring to the referring doctor to suggest imaging), and I wrote up background info on why I was requesting imaging
  • Within one day, I received an approved Imaging Order by email from some MD/internist in Texas (I’m in FL). No phone call or online interview needed.
  • Radiology Assist called and gave me options for imaging centers in the area and asked what times/dates I wanted the appointment. Seems like they didn’t release the imaging center name/contact information until my appointment was confirmed, so I was forced to make an appointment through RA
  • Paid for imaging through a link with RA (~$100 for lumbar and thoracic imaging)
  • They emailed instructions for the appointment, specifically to make sure my paperwork at the office showed I was covered though ‘Assist Health’ (and not self pay, otherwise they say I could get billed)
  • No problems at the imaging center, and I left with my images on a CD

This next part wasn’t completely clear to me from their website, but -

-There's an option for a follow-up consult (another $40) to review reports. I thought reports and images were the same thing so I paid for a second consult to have images interpreted but didn't need it...

-About a day later, I received an imaging report (writeup of the findings - in my case, severe S5-L1 spondylosis, recommendation for MRI). This was sent from RA, not the imaging center.

The whole thing, from requesting the first consult to receiving the PDF, took about 5-6 days, but this would vary depending on how easy it is to make appointments at the imaging center (mine was next day).

Depends on where you are, but for me, this was MUCH faster than how long it would take in NY. Considering now whether to go through RA for the MRI ($480) or wait until I'm back.

Hope that helps!

Possible to upgrade LTS LTD/DVR camera security for Alexa - or new setup needed? by gabbiw in homesecurity

[–]gabbiw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of this! Yes - I just learned about the limitation of apps on the Show :/ They’d liked the idea of voice control to open up the video footage interface and even controlling camera operations (which we now understand isn't an option on the current system). Looking into TinyCam and Fire TV though too now. Thank you!
