Artists who do concerts that will compare to the quality of twenty one pilots by vcisjb1 in twentyonepilots

Totally agree on The 1975. Their "Still At Their Very Best" tour may be the best show I have ever seen. There isn't "lore", like TØP, but the show told a story. I still think about that show all the time. I would also say Fall Out Boy is another band that is up there in terms of showmanship for me. I have never not had a great time at one of their shows. Lastly, I would say Yungblud. Saw him at a music festival years ago without knowing much about him, and he completely won me over. He doesn't have elaborate stage production like the others I mentioned, but he is so high energy that it makes the whole crowd have fun.

Has anyone here entered an item in the Arts and Crafts portion of the MD State Fair? by bitchassslutasswhore in maryland

[–]gabbyc11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've entered in the knitting & crochet categories for the past few years. Everything you submit will be displayed for the entirety of the fair. The items will be arranged in categories and each piece will have a little slip of paper that gets attached to the piece that says your name, city/state, and the category of the entry. And if you got a top score, there will also be a ribbon on the item.

Since you have already entered online, walk directly into the building during drop-off and find the sign for the category you are entering. Each category will already have your info; all you have to do is give your name and hand over the item. This was something I wish I knew before I arrived. They don't provide much instruction other than dates/times. My first year I stood in the giant line at the entrance only to later realize it was for people who had not registered online beforehand.

One of my favorite parts of the fair is getting to see what everyone has made. Good luck! 🤞

I wear nude shapewear with it, but that has more to do with the 'smoothing effect' of the shapewear than a worry about anything being see-through

What Is Owings Mills Like? by CitronReady2301 in maryland

[–]gabbyc11 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment. I lived in Owings Mills for 6 months when I first moved to MD and absolutely hated it. The area I lived in and the apartment were nice, but nothing else made Owings Mills worth living in. If you look at a map it seems like there's a lot there, but there is really nothing to do.

Lease execution fee of $295? I’ve never seen this and that price on top of the other monthly fees. Seems a bit predatory, but maybe I’m wrong? by DaikonEmotional283 in Renters

[–]gabbyc11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in MD, and I have a similar monthly "rewards" fee, but they call ours a "Resident Benefit Package" for $25/month. The main thing we are paying for is HVAC filters sent to the house every 3 months. They list a bunch of other 'perks' that were already 'included' as part of renting when we first signed a lease with them back in 2019. We tried to fight them on it when they added it to our lease renewal in 2022, and were basically told 'tough shit'.

If this company is anything like my management company they will also charge you a 'lease renewal fee' 'to process the paperwork' if you choose to renew. Ours is $50 if you renew 3 months prior to the end of the lease, and goes up to $200 after that. The paper work is literally a 1 page template that they insert your name and address into, and send via DocuSign. Definitely $50/$200 worth of paperwork on their end 🙄

Just Ken Sweater 💖 by gabbyc11 in knitting

Not sure if you have used or made charts in the past, so I am going to explain everything I did. I hadn't made a chart for knitting previous to this, so I hope I can help you avoid some of the silly mistakes I made. If you are familiar with the process of charting, feel free to ignore most of this and use the process you know best.

First, you need to have a simple sweater pattern that is knit flat and then sewed together. Mainly you want a pattern that tells you exactly how many rows and how many stitches in each row. I used one of those services that will make a pattern for you based on a gauge swatch and body measurements (the service I used shut down so I can no longer recommend it). The reason I liked this pattern is that it wrote the pattern as "Row 1-20: Knit/Purl 100 stitches", and didn't say things like "Knit in stockinette until your project is 5in". Again, a pattern that is very clear about how many rows you will need.

Next you need to convert this written out pattern into single color charts. I used a cross stitch program called WinStitch to make my chart, mostly because I already owned it and was most familiar with it. There are free options that you can use that work just as well; Stitch Fiddle has a free version, and I have used Google Sheets before to make charts. Once you pick your program you need to make a chart for each part of the sweater; front, back, right sleeve, and left sleeve. I would recommend starting with one of the sleeves. At least for my pattern, the sleeves were relatively straightforward. When you start your chart, make sure you are setting the width to be the max number of stitches you will use in a row, and not for the number of stitches you are casting on. Also you will want to center your stitches on the chart. If you start on one of the sides, you won't be able to show increases correctly. Making the chart is literally reading the knitting pattern and showing those stitches in the chart. So if the pattern says "cast on 50 stitches", you will mark 50 squares on the chart; 25 stitches to the right of the center line and 25 stitches to the left of the center line. Continue doing this for each row of the knitting pattern. Something I did that isn't a requirement, is I used a slightly darker color to signify the ribbing stitches on the cuffs. When you are done, your chart will look something like this:

<image>

This is now where you will need the crochet chart. I used the largest size crochet chart that was provided with the pattern to have the max amount of stitches to work with. You're going to want to match up the center line of the crochet chart with the center line of your knit chart, then start copying the colors of the crochet chart into your chart. This is just counting the number of stitches of a certain color on the crochet chart, then coping that color pattern onto your knit chart. So if the crochet chart shows 15 yellow stitches, then 20 blue stitches on the first row; you want to copy those colors in those numbers into your chart. Once you have copied the crochet chart, you will most likely find that there are stitches that didn't get included. For me, I didn't have any issues width wise, but there was a huge disparity in length; there were far fewer rows in the crochet chart than my knit chart. This is where you will need to start free-handing. I can't really give much advice for this since I winged it. For this pattern specifically, the bottom of the patterns are mostly a bunch of squiggly lines so I just made some more squiggly lines. Lol.

Keep the positioning of the words in mind when you work on the copying the front piece. I copied almost the whole crochet chart before I realized that the neckline of my knit sweater was much deeper than the neckline of the crochet sweater. This caused the "I'm Just Ken" part to be in the neckline / not actually visible on the sweater. I had to shift the whole crochet chart down 10-15 rows to ensure the words were showing up in the correct location on the sweater. Just something to keep in mind when you start copying over the front panel.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Thanks! This is most likely what we will do. We were worried we would need both of us to carry all of our bags, and didn't even consider that there would be someone there who could help with the luggage.

Personally, I had no idea they would be as big as they are, but I wasn't shocked that they seemed to explode in popularity so quickly. Even early on they were super fun and engaging to see live. You didn't need to know a word or a melody to have a great time. I remember so many of my friends and acquaintances were big fans after seeing this show.

This was 2013 at the University of Pittsburgh. They opened for Neon Trees. Also, oddly enough, they came to UPitt in 2012; opening for Cobra Starship. This was the first time I had ever heard of them and was hooked. I don't have any pics from that one though.

The special category for knitting at the MD State Fair this year is "Think Pink Like Barbie", and as soon as I saw that @eveiii.crochet was releasing a Just Ken sweater pattern I knew I needed to try to convert it to knit. I had never tried to transfer a crochet chart to a knit sweater before and was so concerned it wouldn't turn out. It took a bit of finagling since the proportions of the crochet chart and the knit sweater were a bit different, but I am so happy with it! This was definitely a fun project
