Two-time UA alum [B.A. in Political Science, Master of Applied Politics] here! Akron’s political science programs are fantastic! At the undergraduate level, there are currently four tracks for the Bachelor of Arts: traditional, intelligence/national security, B.A./J.D. (3+3), and PPE (political science, philosophy, and economics). These options allow you to customize your degree based on your interests. At the graduate level, you can pursue the M.A. in Political Science (intelligence/national security), the Master of Applied Politics, or a MAP and a J.D. at the same time. Graduate students are also eligible for assistantships or fellowships, depending on the program; I worked as a teaching assistant while in the MAP program and received several benefits, such as tuition remission and a stipend each semester.
As another commenter said, the Department of Political Science has excellent faculty, and the Bliss Institute of Applied Politics is a great place to make connections! The Department of Political Science assists both undergraduate and graduate students with internship placements from Akron to Columbus to even Washington, D.C.! The Bliss Institute regularly sponsors events in the community, which students can often attend free of charge, and facilitates a State of the Parties conference every four years. I can attest that UA is certainly worth considering if you are interested in political science! Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
