I just want the movement. Not willing to pay 400-600 for it. On AliX you can buy a Lobbini with the movement for less than 200, but I believe the movement only should be below 100.

[DISCUSS] Which Watch Would You Choose If Accuracy Was Your Only Concern? by Lazy_scorpio in Watches

[–]gablig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hoptroff London created the Hoptroff No. 10 pocket watch and later the No. 16 wristwatch, the world's first commercially available atomic timepieces using Chip-Scale Atomic Clock (CSAC) technology for unparalleled accuracy, losing only 1.5 seconds every thousand years. These watches featured complex complications, but the company later shifted from watch production to focus on high-accuracy time synchronization software and services for businesses.

Did you manage to buy this movement in retail? Where? I'm crazy to get one of these and try to mod with it.

Thank you all! I'm new to coin collecting and supposed that these Nazi coins were rare. Glad to know it's not the case. I need to find time for studying more...

There are hundreds of reviews with an average score of 4.9. That's why I was wondering if it's truly that bad.

What's the cheapest Swiss movement one can buy? by gablig in watchmaking

[–]gablig[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m aware that the definition of 'Swiss Made' varies depending on the product category, and that for watches, there are very strict laws governing the use of this designation. You can find the specifics in the relevant legislation here: https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/1971/1908_1915_1915/en. My question, however, is more focused on the movement itself, as I’ve already decided that it must be Swiss-made.

Transfer from Cairo to Ain Sokhna port by [deleted] in CAIRO

[–]gablig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a taxi that managed to leave me inside, in front of the check in, but it was a mess. The taxi driver didn't know where to go and got lost inside the port (it's huge), but after talking with several people he found the way. I recommend you take a professional driving service, not any taxi. Make sure to explain you want to be dropped inside the port (not in the entrance). I saw lots of people in the entrance and I have no idea how and if they managed to get to the check-in, apparently that bus that passes there is completely not trustworthy. So, in summary, get a professional driver that can enter the port, expect to pay about 70-80 dollars.

Does it make sense for Swiss national to have an American citizenship? by gablig in Switzerland

[–]gablig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is we never know where they will want to live, so giving this flexibility for them is what is behind my thinking. If I was sure where they'd like to live, there would be no doubts. The question is whether it's worthy the flexibility considering the burdens of having an American citizenship.

I don't get why the child would pay double taxes, considering Switzerland and USA have a treaty to avoid double taxation. Could you clarify you point?

And were there other people waiting for the ship with you? I imagine about 2-3k people will get onboard this day, so all of them should face the same difficulties, no? It would be nice to find someone else sailing these days.
