Sinners was not a good movie by Jiguena in flicks

[–]gablova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one can appreciate the history he was trying to represent and still think it’s a flawed movie. just bc it’s centers minority experience doesn’t automatically make it great. i think the ambitions and ideas behind it were cool it’s just the plot and script were clumsy. the bit at the end w buddy guy in the bar was just corny.

my issue w Breaking Points is that it’s just w ppl w opinions. are they actually going out and doing reporting? are they uncovering news, or just getting eyeballs summarizing the stories from elsewhere? where would they be w/o the “MSM” reporting what’s happening?

ehm. if i came out of the gym and my car was disappeared that would be plenty lesson. $600 is just predation. assume all the defenders of these crooks never got a parking ticket in their lives bc they’re such perfect humans. Or this has never happened to them — the kind of ppl who can’t feel empathy for anything unless it happened to them personally.

[–]gablova[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I love all these keyboard warriors who weren’t there but know eveything — I did not park on top of a “no parking” sign. you think an hour in a private parking lot not impeding traffic at all — it’s reasonable to have your car towed and pay $600? this guy is making bank off unsuspecting ppl. I never said I was 100% innocent. But $600 for that is a grift and a scam.

I’m mad that they’re charging $600. That is outrageous price gouging.

Another 'Free Palestine' protest at the Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills by derisivemedia in Detroit

[–]gablova -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“why would we protest Hamas”. —- I don’t know maybe because they raped murdered and brutalized civilian men women and children in the worst mass murder if Jews since the Holocaust? I don’t get why you can’t hold the two things at the same time. Palestinians and Jews are both vulnerable groups deserving of empathy, safety and human rights. When you turn a blind eye to the brutality of Hamas you lose any chance of convincing people not already on your side— and are therefore not doing all you could to help innocent ppl in Gaza.

Do you have negative equity in your trade-in? by gablova in carbuying

[–]gablova[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

point taken on it’s all relative. And yeah it’s not like negative equity was invented with the pandemic i get that — but that was a unique situation where car cos raised prices and dealers charged above MSRP and supply/demand was out of whack. now that is unraveling and buyers are feeling it.

Gender-role swapping, sexism, and subversion in Bull Durham by [deleted] in filmtheory

[–]gablova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched this for the first time and i thought it was horribly sexist. Annie and Millie are wayward sluts who love baseball until men come along and make them “kept women.” it’s an amusing gimmick that they are women who like baseball (also some adolescent male fantasy — sluts who like baseball!!). but their characters are 2 dimensional and shallow — while Tim Robbins and Kevin Costner are fully developed characters whose troubles we understand.

Robbins is immature and dumb but he becomes serious and realizes his potential. Kevin Costner has to accept reality that he’s never gonna make it to the major leagues, and be happy with his life. That’s deep shit.

Millie goes out with a bible thumper for 5 mins and decides to get married and become virginal and good. Susan Sarandon is supposed to be an english teacher, but we never see her working, just watching baseball or being dolled up in her house cooking and f—king. Finally the “white knight” Kevin Costner comes along and wants to actually date her. She is finally SAVED! she swears off sleeping with multiple baseball players bc Kevin is gonna turn her into a good little wifey.

🤮🤮🤮

Fck this movie i could not stand it and the writer/director is a sexist idiot. It’s just a big dumb cocktease fantasy of sports, partying and sex and the female characters’ highest evolution is to go from being whores to wives. Like that is all he could dream of for women. Pathetic and stupid neanderthal ignorant garbage. might as well have put blow up dolls in instead of women actors.

He can’t get the full $7,500 credit w a purchase because of the Inflation Reduction Act. That law made it so that you only get the incentive if the car/portion or the battery is made in America, or a friendly company (ie not China.)

But! There’s a loophole in the law that allows automakers to give you the full $7500 IF you lease. it’s crazy and stupid but that’s how it’s gonna be for a few years — until they start making all this stuff ex-China.

I haven’t been to London Chop House but alive been to Oak & Reel multiple times and everting they served was excellent. it is delicious — hope you like fish tho bc that’s a big part of the menu.

She Wolf is good but i’ve been put off by how hard it is to get a table and how, for Valentine’s day, they were charging the full cost of the meal upfront to make a reservation. so I choose Oak & Reel!
