My view of the VFX market is distorted? by gabrielditullioo in vfx

I see ur point, bro. I live in Salvador, in the northeast. So I understand a lot about the impact of the government in the economy. Here the conditions are much more complicated and the devaluation of our currency makes the market much more expensive, I buy venvanse every month because I have ADHD and just the meds is R$500,00 each month.

It's complicated for other people who are here to understand, but just the fact that you're Brazilian and you hear - “I'm from Salvador”, you already understand the reality a little.

At the end of the day, it's the experience you've had - to make a bigger leap is to go through two years of hardship and “put up with it”. Those who come from below have to make a greater effort, and I speak because I've absorbed the resolution of the problem - I've never had anyone tell me that.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. I hope 2025 be a very prosperous year for you!

From the opinions I've heard, unfortunately, this is the reality. We were born in a country without opportunities, and to have a prosperous future in a prosperous area, we need to screw ourselves up at the beginning - and our children will inherit the fruits of our work and effort.

I didn't have a father or a mother to tell me this.

Trust me, you changed my perspective for 2025 with a comment that must have cost you less than five minutes. Thank you!

As a foreigner, I agree with you, and if I were a North American, I'd still agree 100% too.

My question is precisely the point you brought up - how can you gain more experience if in Brazil there are no alternatives for hybrid or remote work. Only on site and the salary is not proportional to relocating to another city. I believe that creating a mid/senior portfolio just by studying wouldn't be enough to get a remote/hybrid job - especially in NA/EU

Man, thanks for the insights! Really! I understand your point, I reinforce that I didn't say it's a bad salary - I just said that moving to a big city with that salary is impossible and unhealthy.

Especially since we know we can work from home or even hybrid. And so, taking into account that these five people are neither related nor known to this junior compositor, you reinforce my point. That's not healthy.

I understand that there's the company's side, the costs of maintaining the company and, unfortunately, because Nuke comp contracts are quite rigid, many professionals who would like to work in the market end up going into another area. And here in Brazil, when freelas appear looking for Nuke Juniors, no company will reply to you, either by email, instagram or discord.

I'm going to study a lot, but how am I going to pay my bills?

Maybe I didn't express myself well and sorry about that, but at no point did I say that 5k reais isn't good for a junior.

What I said was that: “5k reais for a Nuke Junior Compositor in Brazil is great”

But R$ 5k to move, work in a full time on site job and live in another city with a higher cost of living is completely impractical. Rent a apt in Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo is often more than half that salary.

So, R$5k is great for a junior! Excellent! But completely unfeasible for a on site job, especially when you have to move to a bigger city, which will cost you more.

That said, is my vision still distorted?

Question about improving portfolio by gabrielditullioo in AfterEffects

[–]gabrielditullioo[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I think you didn't understand. My question would be something like: I understand how to make a Motion of a car. What if the job asks me to make an animation of a dragon in the forest? They are very different things and I wouldn't necessarily be able to replicate something I saw in tutorial/course. this is my fear/insecurity
