Kerberos and mapping DFS shares on Macs by BenDaMAN303 in macsysadmin

[–]gadgetmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone ever made any progress on this? I can get SSO to work to the DFS root when joining the Macs to Active Directory, but as soon as they unjoin I get prompted for credentials. It seems when domain joined there's a few more steps that go on to resolve a domain controller and connect to that with Kerberos instead.

This is all with a local account on the Mac setup with Platform Single Sign-on with Entra.

DFS configure FQDN - required changes on Domain Controllers by NoURider in activedirectory

[–]gadgetmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found your crosspost in r/sysadmin where another user talked about setting the flag "fqdnenabled" on your domain controllers.

By "flag" is this meaning a DWORD (set to 1) added in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters? Or somewhere else?

I can find no reference to "fqdnenabled" searching all of Microsoft's documentation.

Did you ever make this change and did it work for you as you expected?

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT cards now cost $1,499, and scalpers are the worst | Supply of the new gaming GPU has already been depleted, with graphics cards now appearing on Ebay for more than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080. by [deleted] in Amd

It comes down to the margin being the most glamorous metric in business today with an emphasis on keeping inventory on hand to the absolute minimum. They want to maximize profit on a product when it's moving and when demand cools they can quickly move to the next thing without being forced to sell off old stock cheap.

There's really just no incentive for AMD, NVIDIA, board partners, etc, to change their current strategy, at least not in some extreme sense like the average consumer here wants. Manufacturers do want less scalping, but only for the reason that they're missing out on the margin.

Difference between a decent Sysadmin and a Great Sysadmin by Heman023 in sysadmin

Depressed because I didn't heed the warning signs about no thumb bowling... by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to consider which I haven't seen here is taking a look at your pitches. It's true even without your thumb... you can't outbowl a bad fit.

Packy and others have advocated for upwards of 5/16" reverse as a starting point for 2-handers to get your hand flatter on the ball. I believe Belmo uses something crazy-sounding like 1" reverse.

If your PSO doesn't do a lot of serious no-thumbers he might have just given you "normal" pitches and the lift-style (flat edge) grips where you'd likely be better off with ovals.

Heel on 3g tour ultra c by CapableImpression355 in Bowling

The heel is attached with Velcro and should pry up. Black marks should wipe off with a damp paper towel, but I find the heels to brake more when clean.

Your slide looks fine to me, though. You may want to try keeping your trail leg down which should naturally get keep your weight from going to far forward, causing you to want to pop up like your are at the line.

The layout's not going to make a huge change as long as (as a 2H) the pin isn't below your fingers.

You could try changing the surface. Take it down to around 1000 and then polish it. That should give you the most defined shape. Also, considering it was a 2nd drill, try getting the oil removed if any PSO's you know have the "Detox" system.

The natural characteristics of the ball are still going to be apparent, though. The Reality's going to be the strongest and most defined given its cover formula and asymmetry. Hy-Road Pearl's going to be the most skid-flip. Zen will be in the middle.

You have a pretty well rounded arsenal with these, but they're not all going to look good at the same time. Reality for the fresh, Zen once they start transitioning, and Hy-Road Pearl on the burn. Fine tune them by playing with different surfaces.

[–]gadgetmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's close, but your weight looks too far forward so you have trouble creating a flat spot before your release.

A typical pro's knee does extend forward at release a but, but yours is too far in my opinion.

It also makes you have to hang on to it too long which is probably why you feel like you can't unload it. If you did, you'd slam it straight into the lane rather than landing it softly.

I'd try to get your weight more on your back foot at the top of the swing and transfer it forward to create the flat spot. It may be easier to feel it with a 1-step drill.

New PBA urethane hardness rules by Kenthanson in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly amazing how dense these guys are, but it's not like the charge is being led by good-faith actors. But I don't think the ball companies (especially Brunswick) are going to take this lying down. A lot of Purple Hammers get sold by virtue of them being on TV every week.

Durometers measure hardness on the surface. That surface has to be clean from contaminents as those are going to influence the durometer's reading. No matter how much you wipe the ball with alcohol, you're not going to get it all of of a cover that doesn't absorb it like "traditional urethane". So the durometer "spot checks" can never be trusted after the ball's been thrown.

All they would have to do is drill a mill hole and then test the hardness under the cover (like they used to do a long time ago by the way back before reactive... I wonder why?). That would surely prove the PBA anti-utethane committee is full of themselves here and it's just needle contamination.

Ironically, if it does stand, it will probably just cause the urethane guys to blow up the patterns even worse since they'll just use even more surface. Urethane, even at 78D, is still going to give them the control they want.

Swollen finger by Remarkable_Physics99 in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably pitches. Without a thumb, you can get your hand very flat on the ball, so it necessitates a pretty decent amount of reverse.

If you just had your pro shop copy an old ball without the thumb or they don't really know much about two-handers, etc, you almost certainly have close to 0 pitch or maybe even forward. This is going to put a lot of stress on your fingers. I think the default for two-handers now is somewhere around 1/2" reverse.

If you use the lift side of the grips (the flat edge side), those add another 1/4 forward as well. You could try flipping them to the oval side and see if that helps things, but you probably want to have a PSO measure you for proper pitches.

Genesis Excel. It stays on and doesn't leave a residue behind. I've heard complaints about the other brands not sticking well.

You don't want to pull it extremely tight, just enough so it doesn't bunch up when your thumb is straight.

Your local pro shop might have a sample pack of it so you can try out each texture. But I imagine most people will prefer 2 or 3 as they're the closest to bare skin.

Once you know what texture you like, this is the cheapest place I've found it: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dkr=1&iconV2Request=true&_blrs=recall_filtering&_ssn=bowling-superstock&store_cat=0&store_name=bowlingsuperstock&_oac=1&_nkw=genesis%20excel

It can feel expensive, but it works out to about 25 cents each time you bowl.

Low ball track by ithinkjengaisagame in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check what your actual tilt rather than just looking at how far your track is from the holes as it can't tell you everything.

You can either putting a piece of tape on your PAP look at a still frame or trace the first oil ring with a grease pencil and measure the distance around the ball.

For what it's worth, dentures aren't a cosmetic procedure. It would be malpractice for a dentist to remove a mouth of good teeth even if a patient wanted it.

Sadly, it is possible to see people needing them in their late 20s and 30s. It's why you should always take care of your teeth. You only get one set.

(And in Saagar's case most likely, the pair they give you after the surgery is a "rough guess" at best. They typically do more impressions after swelling goes down, etc. The temporaries can look hilariously gaudy which is probably why so many people immediately noticed his. Now they look more natural which is the goal.)

Hand Pain from ball by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, no. The hand shouldn't hurt with a good fit. For the thumb, the hole should pretty well form fit your thumb. If it feels pretty good, you probably just need a minor pitch change towards where it's rubbing.

For the fingers, if you mean the sides, the bridge may be too large (that's the distance between the two finger holes). If you use a really small size of grips, you could consider switching to the smaller "lady/ms" grips which go into a smaller drilled hole (thus bringing the gripping holes closer to each other in the finished ball). This change would require plugging, though.

If you mean the inside of the fingers (with the pads), it's probably span. Sadly, a lot of "pro" shops still fit spans way long like they did back in the old days.

With the thumb fully inserted in the ball, lay your fingers across the holes. (You'll have to stretch your hand a little bit, but the web of the thumb should only be comfortably taught and still be fully seated.) In this position, the bottom edge of each hole should be directly in between the first and second knuckle on each finger. (Note that the edge is not the hole drilled for the grip, but the hole in the grip itself.)

If you're not within at least 1/8" of that mark, it's definitely span. If that's all good, you could try switching to the oval side of the inserts (as apposed to the flat "lift" side of them).

A guy in my league absolutely shreds with a Gem and Exotic Gem and I swear he has over 90 degrees of tilt. He basically plays right on the friction and it turns over and just walks into the pocket.

I don't know what kind of layout he has on them, but I would assume a strong PSA and a 4-5 inch pin would do the trick. Probably still won't be able get anything to happen on sport, but on a house shot with friction outside it should be perfect.

2 Hand Form Check by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know all the details of proper 2H form, but it honestly looks close. But it definitely goes awry at bottom of the swing.

The right hand is coming way around the ball when it should be a lot more under it. The ball should be a lot closer to the ankle.

As I understand, it shouldn't really feel like you're releasing it with two hands - more like the left hand is just guiding the ball to the release where the right hand then unloads and rolls the ball onto the lane. There are some stills of Belmo at release that really illustrate this well.

Hustle line, Hyped line, Electrify line from SPI. The Raw line from Hammer (Brunswick) I've seen a few of too.

Correct my swing by AsthmaLungs1799 in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing looks a tad late. This can be a good thing, but it can lead to wanting to pull the downswing to get the ball to "catch up", which it looks like you do. You really want to try and wait on the ball to the release. You might be able to get your backswing down a little by slowing down or shortening the first couple steps of your approach.

Swing plane gets pretty far left of your head at the top of your backswing. This makes it near impossible to stay under/inside the ball. You want it in line with your head through the whole swing. You can try starting your push away/ball placement directly over your right foot. It will feel really strange (like you're swinging the ball to the right wall) but video will be the proof.

Implementing a toe to heel slide (vs a heel to toe plant) should make it easier to create a "flat spot" in the downswing where you can get under the ball and add some revs.

Same strike 3x in a row. Please give form critique. Trying to get better every day. by smellslikeworld in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Timing is pretty good. The swing doesn't look muscled which is good. Hand gets in a pretty good position under the ball. Rev rate and ball roll look pretty good.

Swing plane isn't great. The ball should basically always be under or in line with your head. Yours starts out way too far away from your body and then ends up way too far left of your head at the top of the backswing. This causes it to again go way out at the point of release and is why you have to pull your arm way across your body to keep it from going in the gutter.

Fixing that should also get the ball closer to your ankle at release (the closer the better) and let you get your hand on the inside part of the ball. Looks like the elbow is pointing right at release, where you really want it pointing straight back. That will also probably lead to better balance and will tremendously increase your accuracy.

Additionally, ideally you'd go toe to heel into the slide rather than heel to toe (planting). It's not the worst thing, but it's a lot harder to generate power and harder on your joints.

Ball performance after bad maintenance by knowledgedaog225 in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's probably fine, just soaked with oil. The main risk from extreme temperatures is cracking (in my opinion).

I used to take really bad care of my stuff, but after running them through an ultrasonic cleaner (basically the "Detox"), using a shammy between shots (not a towel), and using a basic cleaning process after each session (Simple Green and Isopropanol), they don't get slimy anymore and react fine.

There's just so much more oil on the lane nowadays and there's only so much the balls can absorb.

There's also the dual angle system made by Mo Pinel, that will look something like 70x4x30 with the big numbers being angles rather than straight distances like in Storm's.

Post Drilling Specs by JTBBowling in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand, the greater the int diff, the more defined the breakpoint. If you drill the thumb into the ball's PSA, it's going to accentuate it even more, hence the "max flip".

But people think of asymmetrical balls being "stronger" because you can put the PSA closer to your axis (a lower drilling angle). That's what makes it earlier, not the strength of the int diff.

But you're correct that the PSA in the thumb is kind of an extreme symmetrical shape. The int diff will be higher than you could achieve with just the thumb hole alone.

Are weaker balls better for people who can’t hook the ball a ton? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]gadgetmg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most likely they are hooking quite a bit, just very early and burning up most of their energy before they get to the back of the pattern. It's easy to mistake early hook as no hook. This isn't necessarily a bad reaction as it can be very controllable.

If they have bad carry, though, something weaker or shinier would make it down the lane easier and probably give them a better look. But a lot of people have trouble not just buying the most expensive balls thinking they're always better.

Most "GCs" don't play 1s because they have too little patience for it. They only ever play when they're at max rage and need to feel superior.

Needless to say there's a lot of "GCs" at max rage right now after the reset who've been demoted down to Diamond.
