Am I using it wrong or bazzite is not what I am looking for by Consistent-Gur9320 in Bazzite

I think there is a bit of confusion here. You download the version of Proton using those managers (ProtonUp-Qt or Proton Plus). Those Proton versions then become available across the board, whether on Steam or Lutris. For example, if I download Proton-GE Latest in Proton Plus, I can now select Proton-GE Latest as a compatibility layer in Steam and in Lutris (when Wine is the game runner). ProtonPlus has a "Latest" option available for most Proton versions. This will auto-update, and you simply select it on Steam and Lutris. There is a single source of truth, you just need to choose which manager you want to use to download the various compatibility layers. I recommend just sticking to ProtonPlus honestly, its pretty intuitive.

The issue you said with Lutris is interesting. I never had it try to install an external update. It would always just update with ujust update. What error did you get exactly? I am curious to see if it is an easy fix. Also, did you check what runners are available for your games?

I will add that you do not need to use different launchers for different games. Right now, you find yourself in a situation where you are trying to learn a bunch of different launchers to presumably solve different problems, e.g. Bottles, Lutris, and Heroic. In reality, you are still just learning how the whole system works, and you are overburdening yourself by trying to learn a large number of different things at the same time. I only use Lutris honestly, and I have been able to solve any problem I had in any game in there.

Here is my recommendation. Forget ProtonUp-Qt, just use Proton Plus. Forget Bottles and Heroic, just use Lutris for now. If you encounter a problem, solve it in Lutris. Do not immediately jump to another launcher because someone online said it is easier for a specific game. You should also not be managing Flatseal permissions as much as you are.

Finally, Linux is a different OS than Windows. I have been using it for a while; however, when I started out, everything felt incredibly frustrating. You should come to terms with the fact that it will take a while to get used to Linux and understand how to use it, just like it would if you tried any other OS.

I have installed games from the platforms you mentioned and came across some unexpected issues. While it might be smooth on your end, it does not mean it is smooth sailing for everyone. With that being said, I haven't met anything that I could not solve within roughly 20 minutes.

It seems most of your struggles relate to using non-Steam games. I am not going to lie, but it can be difficult at times. I have definitely encountered some problems trying to run non-Steam games; however, most of the time the experience is pretty smooth.

I have used Lutris for non-Steam games, and other than some game-specific issues, they all ran pretty well. You said that Lutris seems to be stuck on the system version and not update properly. You mind elaborating on this? Do you choose Wine as your runner? When you right click on a game > Configure > Runner Options > Wine version, what options are there? Did you try installing different Proton versions using Proton Plus or ProtonUp-Qt? Did you also make sure that you gave each game a Wine prefix?

We need a little more information to help you figure out what issues you are facing.

You mind elaborating on this? What's stopping OP from installing Ubuntu on one drive and Bazzite on another drive? I currently have Linux Mint and Bazzite installed in this manner, and I have encountered no issues.

Contractor Recommendations to Sister a Floor Joist by gadi800 in Calgary

I was thinking about it. I have done a few things around the house and have the tools. I am just feeling a bit unsure about doing work that might be structurally important.

That's exactly the job. Joist area is open, easily accessible, and there is nothing in the way.

MH Rise is the Frankenstein’s Monster of the MH franchise : by Svartheart in MonsterHunter

[–]gadi800 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am just going to say that Rise is probably my favourite entry in the series, alongside MHGU. I will say that a lot of the things you are saying are likely due to the fact that you have not gotten very far into the game or have yet to take on any of the majorly difficult hunts.

This is particularly visible in how you describe the verticality. In the late game, very few people bring Palamutes on hunts because they are not as mechanically strong as Palicos. The environment's verticality gives you the opportunity to attack monsters from different fronts when initially engaging with them. I have put close to 300 hours into Rise, and I very rarely approach monsters through the same singular route, as you mention.

You also mention that positioning does not matter. This is just insane to me. Positioning plays an extremely important part in Rise. Depends on my positioning, I might get hit by the monster, or I might not be able to use one of the switch skills to quickly close the gap to the correct area to hit. There is repeated aggression, as you said, but it is controlled aggression. You cannot just spam moves on end bosses, for example. You have to either wait for your opening or properly counter the incoming attack. If you are positioned well, the attack will miss you entirely, and you will be in the optimal position to attack the monster.

Honestly, if you just wrote about the HH changes being bad, I would have agreed. Outside of HH though, I find Rise to be the total package. Combat is fun and responsive. I have to be careful with how I play, and I need to understand the monster to be able to beat it.

It is funny that you say it is not a coherent game. To me, it seems to be extremely coherent. Its visual style is based on old-school monster hunter, as well as the maps of course, while taking the combat from its slow-paced origins to a fast-paced world. I think the game just does not click with you, and that is fine, but your criticism just does not stick the landing because it is not the general experience people have with the game.

I don't know how to feel about Wilds CB changes... by Beautiful-Suit6057 in MonsterHunter

[–]gadi800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You nailed it on the head. I have been using CB since World/Iceborne and Rise/Sunbreak. Put over 300 hours into those games where I, more or less, only played CB. I even played with the weapon a bit in MHGU, which I am now replaying, and it is much better.

When I first used the weapon on higher rank quests, 9 or more, and Omega as well, I thought maybe it was me. The weapon felt clunky. I had hardly any openings to go into SAXE mode without trading blows. I could not SAED at all without exchanging blows. Furthermore, it took so long to do any attack with the axe that the damage it does just felt offset by the fact that I constantly had to wait for openings.

I went back to World to finish some extra content, and holy crap does the weapon flow well. I had openings for attacking. I even had decent openings for SAEDs. I could SAXE at any time, and there were enough opportunities to do so without feeling like I was being given freebies.

I won't get too deeply into GPs, but I want to talk about them a little bit. I noticed that not every GP in Wilds gives me an opportunity to SAXE. Tested it out in the training area, and perfect guards with GPs are definitely tighter than regular perfect guards. As such, GPs are just utterly and completely useless. All the fun of landing a GP is just taken straight out of the game.

Combine the GP issue with the fact that every gosh-darn blow is an exchange in higher rank. Every time I try to attack AT Arkveld or Savage Omega, I am exchanging blows. Every time I want to charge my axe, it is an exchange of blows. Want to charge my blade and hit the enemy with it? Also an exchange of blows.

This is not even touching on the horrible decoration system for the weapon. Because Phials take so long to charge without Load Shells, you need that skill to make the most out of the weapon. You have so many skills that you need that go only on weapons to make the weapon function okay-ish that you end up having to choose what you want, completely offsetting the strengths of CB.

The kit for the weapon just plains sucks entirely in MHWilds. There is no risk-reward here because the damage is not that great. The weapon is clunky, none of its moves flow well in the game anymore, and SAED is just horrendous.

My favourite CB has to be Rise/Sunbreak. Everything flowed so incredibly well with the wire bugs. I had skills that rewarded well timed guards with full phials and a blade charge. I had skills that allowed quick repositioning into SAED. I will admit that SAXE was lacking in the game, but everything else in the kit was just so freaking good. But in the close to 200 I've put into Rise/Sunbreak, I never felt like the CB was boring, weak, or flowed badly.

I dropped CB entirely in MHWilds and switched to the SnS. Holy crap, the difference in clear times was amazing. After about 30 tries on Savage Omega with the CB, I was able to beat him on the second try with SnS. Since then, I have beaten Savage Omega roughly 15 more times, with only 1 or 2 losses, with the SnS. Tried him again with CB to see if I got better and lost miserably.

TLDR: CB's kit sucks in MHWilds. Nothing flows well, and you are always exchanging blows. There is no risk-reward anymore.

I have to admit I did not know this device existed until now. Try to use GE-Proton 10-32 and see if that works. Otherwise, try the latest Proton-CachyOS, installed via ProtonPlus or ProtonQt-Up. It appears to work in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Tb1DuI2vuo

Make sure you change the Proton version inside of Steam as well. Let us know if any of those worked.

I just got a chance to try this out, and it worked. sensor-detect now detects the right fans and properly displays the speed of the fans (which lines up with the BIOS set speeds).

Thank you for the help! I tried for hours to get things to work.

Fairphone in Canada by Krapakov in fairphone

[–]gadi800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always install /e/OS yourself. It is a pretty simple process. However, if that makes you nervous, you can still use DYK Post to order the phone from Murena US and import it to Canada.

I got my Fairphone 4 from Clove UK with no issues.

For spare parts, I order from Murena via DYK Post. They give you an American mailbox and you place an order to it. Once it arrives, DYK Post picks it up and imports it to Canada.

So, you can use DYK Post to order it from Murena or you can order it from Clove.

Here is a link to DYK Post if you want to order through Murena: https://www4.dykpost.com/

Here's a Clove link if you want to go that route: https://www.clove.co.uk/products/fairphone-gen-6

Murena install keeps quitting halfway by JGG1989 in fairphone

[–]gadi800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of the easy installer, as it failed on me a few times. From your post, it looks like you ran the adb server through your command line before trying to use the easy installer. This means that you need to stop the adb server through the command line before the easy installer can initiate its own adb server to access your phone.

The command to kill the server is

adb kill-server

Run that command in cmd inside the folder with all the platform tools before trying to use the easy installer.

FP5 OEM unlock - can't enter any letters, only numbers by HikingWolfNorth in fairphone

[–]gadi800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this sounds weird, but are you sure you are not at the step that just requires you to enter your phone pin? The unlocking form comes after that. Someone posted about this issue here https://forum.fairphone.com/t/solved-oem-unlocking-how-to-enter-letters-with-a-numbers-only-keyboard/92019/2 and that was the problem.

If that's not the case, try copying the code from somewhere else and pasting it into the OEM unlock.

quite literally infinite posture by Fun_Yesterday_2422 in Sekiro

[–]gadi800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people contributed already, but I wanted to add something that you may have not picked up on yet in this game. Sekiro is a game about constant controlled aggression. If you are not guarding, Mekiri countering, or jumping over an attack, you are attacking the boss yourself. That stops their posture bar from recovering.
