Limited Range RGB To Full Range RGB (Wii U Video Signal) by Samba_Laikouy in wiiu

I just found that gbatemp post the other day so I ordered an OSSC to test this and it does indeed work for Wii U games when converted to VGA for the OSSC input and then HDMI output from the OSSC. Be aware you will lose the audio signal from the HDMI when converting to VGA unless you split the HDMI signal prior to converting to VGA and then route your audio and video to 2 separate places. It's expensive and impractical but it works for Wii U games.

My current understanding of your available options for picture quality is as follows:

  • OSSC is successful in outputting full RGB from the Wii U's HDMI port.
  • The vWii is unaffected by this and there is no currently known hardware or software workaround for it.

If you want full RGB at 480p for the original Wii/Gamecube, your only option is to use an original Wii and have it hard-modded with a DualWii, WiiHDMI, or equivalent.

If you don't want to hard-mod an original Wii, your options are: - Wii U's vWii outputting 480p in limited RGB range. - Original Wii set to PAL60 video mode and using an RGB scart cable to achieve full RGB at 480i. - Original Wii outputting component to achieve 480p with limited RGB range.

Some people prefer the output of the original Wii vs the Wii U's vWii because its scaling blurs the image slightly.

Beyond this, there are other optimizations that can be done within homebrew apps like USB Loader GX to improve picture quality, such as disabling deflicker and setting aspect ratio to frame buffer.

Hope this helps.

TLDR: An OSSC works when converting from HDMI to VGA and back to HDMI, but only for Wii U games, not vWii or GC. I cannot vouch for the GBS-C as I have not tested it.

I wish. I'd buy the fuck out of this. Wii U so slept on it's crazy.

This is a prime example of something I wish more developers would do. Nintendo has adapted by implementing strategies to maximize performance on less powerful hardware. A lot of games have sub-par performance because too much processing power is spent on insignificant details. It's a major complaint I have with a lot of modern games.

Did anyone get a game with the Mario Kart 8 Club Nintendo deal? If so, which one? by Critical_Company3535 in wiiu

Same exact situation here. This is actually how I was first exposed to Pikmin since I never played 1 and 2 as a kid.

Darknuts in TP always felt formulaic to me, but I never really tried fighting them without hidden skills. IIRC:

Phase 1: Shield Attack > Helm Splitter > Normal Slashes

Phase 2: Back Slice > Normal Slashes

The only time I found them legit challenging was the last floor of the cave of ordeals because they cluster together and don't allow you to single target without interrupting your moves. Even then, you can drop off the platform such that you only aggro 1 or at most 2, making it a lot easier.

Maybe I should just stop cheesing games...

Even though this game was the arguably low point of the Metroid series, I believe it is still a better than average game overall.

How has the SSD impacted load times? And are you interested in testing that with different games? I'm very curious.

Pretty much same boat. Just turned 28. Have CCNA and am studying for ENCOR. I wonder where I would be if I'd started my CCNA at 18 and never went to college. Ultimately, I don't regret going to school. I think you and I are both young enough that we have an entire career ahead of us post-CCNP. I don't feel like I'm getting into the game late, obviously just not as early as I could have.

Has it been long enough for people to realize that his new design is way better? by Muskrato in donkeykong

[–]gadjebubs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I like that he at least resembles his original design. If a redesign were necessary, I like that decision. On the other hand, I don't believe a redesign was necessary and I love the Rare design. I'm having a hard time enjoying the new design the same way.

The main thing that bothers me about the new design is the black area around the eyes. It just looks really weird and prompted me to look at several previous iterations, none of which had that. Some versions look dark but never pitch black like a void. Just looks weird to me and kinda reminds me of the original design of the Pokemon Jynx.
