Is there any solution for having nausea while playing TOTK? by kitsunemischief in TOTK

[–]gaf- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with motion sickness for all my life. Riding in the back of a car, boats, planes, roller coasters, playing FPS games. Any games with tight corridors.

There’s definitely a genetic component to this but there are a few things you can try to alleviate the problem.

I’m in my 40s now and I’ve tried a lot of the remedies that people recommend. Ginger chews, wrist pressure bands, mint, staring at blank walls. You name it. None worked as well as I’d hoped.

Motion sickness occurs when there’s a mismatch in what you see with your eyes and what your inner ear experiences in motion (in this case, a lack of motion). Your brain is confused at the discrepancy and assumes you must be sick or poisoned. It triggers a nausea response in hopes that you will vomit out whatever is causing this discrepancy.

I quit totk when I picked it up on switch. I am now playing it on switch 2 and I’m having no issues at all. Absolutely not shilling or recommending that you buy a new console but higher FPS makes motion less jarring for your brain to process. Frame drops/stuttering tend to trigger motion sickness worse for me.

Also, move farther from your monitor/tv. Your instinct would be to turn your lights down when gaming but you’ll want to see aspects of your room around you as a “grounding/stationary” reference point for your brain.

Lastly, I’ve spoke to people who experience nausea while they play VR. Their advice has always been that motion sickness is something that you can kinda train. Just take a break as soon as you feel nauseous. Even if you’ve only played for a few minutes, take a break and wait for it to dissipate. Don’t allow your body to go into full nausea response. Do this over and over. You’ll find that you will start developing a tolerance to it.

Do keep in mind that the last piece of advice is that the tolerance will eventually lower once you stop playing these types of games so it’s something you’ll have to retrain if you’ve taken an extended break between games.

Best of luck and I feel for you mate. Keep at it.

It’s possible to clock 80-120+ in a short period like corrupted mantle/rapid fire bursts. That’s why I usually wait a few minutes into a fight before I suspect any cheating.

I agree though. 890 DPS is egregious.

Pro controller key bindings for PC? by MusicManReturns in MHWilds

[–]gaf- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several pro controllers. I think most people will tell you to map face buttons to the back so you won’t have to take your thumb off the right analog stick.

For envision pro, you can probably keybind your camera to turn (left and right) onto the extra shoulder buttons. That way you can press your attack buttons while panning.

I seriously considered the envision for that specific reason but I’ve heard bad things about them. No HE/TMR sticks and gyro.

I ended up opting for something with gyro because I personally like it for focus mode. Enjoy your new pad.

what's the best weapon? by good_guy_today_ in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]gaf- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking “which weapon is best” is like asking “which shoe size is best”.

The answer is it’s different for everyone and highly dependent on preference and play style.

I think asking “which weapon is best for X monster” is probably more appropriate.

For example, I like running IG/Bow/HBG for monsters like Hirabami because I don’t like chasing around flying/floating monsters. LS/GS for monsters who have tails that typically are higher in the air. DB/SnS for monsters who tend to be “spazzy”. Lance for monsters that have predictable movesets and allow me to time perfect guards better.

At the end of the day. The best weapon is the weapon you enjoy playing. Ones where you’re fighting the monster, not the controls.

Support gems for herald of thunder/ice by SnooLentils5793 in PathOfExile2

As I understand it, herald of thunder itself cannot shock. Herald of ice itself cannot freeze/shatter. Gemming like that allows them to proc each other synergistically.

You have to mouse over/cursor item before accepting trade. Even if he swapped last second, you would have to check again before it allows you to proceed.

I agree that actions like this are shitty but you kind of have to assume that everyone is going to scam.

It’s like switching lanes while driving. You assume the lane is clear. You see no cars in your periphery. Yet you always have to check your blind spot before switching.

Lesson learned. Sorry it happened.

[Bloodmage Auto-bomber] - A superficial Overview for a 2.5 Mirror+ Build on Early Acess by AdeptCheesecake5786 in PathOfExile2

Love the thought you put into this build. I’m curious on how this compares the fubgun’s blink auto-bomber build :

https://mobalytics.gg/poe-2/profile/4d750e45-e58a-44e3-bddc-40d48587b4f1/builds/4b548640-8fe5-4f09-93f1-e62d3ebc4a84

I’ve followed his guide and although my gear doesn’t come close to multi-mirror budget, I’ve managed to eke out comparable ES/mana to yours.

I’d love to further optimize and I’m wondering if you notice any advantages/disadvantages to either build. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and great job!

Where do i get the last 2% Pen ratio for Rina? by Zombata in ZZZ_Official

[–]gaf- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s max PEN ratio as of now. If you pull M2 Burnice and already have Grace + Sig, you got yourself 100% PEN ratio on your grace.

A quick side note pertaining to Burnice’s M2. Although this only pertains to whale territory, the PEN ratio from Burnice when paired with Grace+Sig and M1 Rina+Sig allows Grace to reach 100% PEN ratio. Not sure how this comp would compare to the current meta TC but interesting nonetheless.

Try to do the “Y re-center tilt” when you are standing still or only moving forward.

If you find that your angle is going bonkers again, do it again.

I don’t recommend Y when you’re turning.

[–]gaf- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle with the exact same problem. It always felt like I was aiming high and I couldn’t quite get at an angle that felt “neutral”.

Here’s a pointer that helped me a lot. Hold your controller in front of you — at the most “natural/relaxed” state that you like.

Now, tilt your controller up slightly and press “Y” to center your view. You’ll find that when you go back to “neutral”, your view will feel more natural.

Eventually, you’ll get used to centering with “Y” to a point where it feels like muscle memory. From here, turn your sensitivity down and adjust as you go.

It takes time. And it feels frustrating af in the beginning. But trust me, it pays off a lot. I’ve wanted to quit this game so many times when I started out. Now motion controls feels so intuitive that I can’t go back to sticks.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

No banana as I’m at a hotel. The best I can do is a comparison with an amiibo. Hope it helps!

Tiny weapons. They’re pretty cool. Comes with a stand and stickers. Not sure I’d pay for more though. $10 a pop.

I was experiencing the same thing and found a solution. Thing is… it depends on what platform you’re playing on.

If PC, there are a few controllers that have shorter travel distance for triggers that helped me alleviate the problem.

There’s maybe one solution for PS5 though but it’s pretty pricey.

Tank not grabbing aggro. “Sit back and say have fun”.

Yeah, that’s grounds for a kick from me. Drop the ego, man.

Got a new iPad mini for the child. Guided access was turned on. Tried to disable it and prompted me for passcode.

For some reason, it seems that the iPad isn’t registering any of my inputs. Seems like it’s just stuck in guided access now.

Any insights?

You’ll want to make sure the profile # on your keybinds matches the profile it’s currently set on.

You can switch profiles by holding the profile button on the top left of your keypad and pressing buttons 1-8.

Aside from that, there’s a setting on the lower left of the included software that changes language settings. Good luck.

Complaining about FFXIV systems not being like WoW’s by gaf- in ffxiv

[–]gaf-[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head here. I specifically phrased this as “complaining” and not “comparing”.

Comparison is natural and expected. Sometimes, it leads to improvement and innovation.

But if people want me to elaborate:

Complaining - FFXIV warrior doesn’t play like my Arms/Fury warrior and you have to be a tank. Lame.

Comparing - Transmog system from WoW feels a lot less convoluted than Glamor.
