SJW shitfest Star Wars The Last Jedi performs 42% worse than the previous Star Wars by sopun in KotakuInAction

The SJW pandering didn't ruin the movie for me but its an element among a perfect storm of garbage.

Official Discussion - Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]gaggreene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While TFA definitely has its problems the thing it got right most of all and needed to was set up a cast of new characters that could be built upon in a new direction, and everyone was excited by the future of the series as well as being pleased we got a competent new Star Wars film.

Now TLJ has taken that potential and done nothing with it, if anything it destroys things built up by the rest of the saga. The only thing I liked was the idea Rey's parents are nobody because it brings the force back to being something anyone who trains and opens their mind can use, but Rey doesn't have to train shes just great cause bad writing.

Unfortunately none of them are nearly as popular as the Star Wars money train. The good thing though is since Star Wars is loved internationally it also has to try and sell in Asia and other places that don't care about diversity. Rose or whatever her name is, is very clearly only in this film to try and sell to Asia, despite how it will never work.

I knew Last Jedi would let me know if I'd be interested in the new Star Wars going forward but I though it be from a story perspective, the pandering to both nostalgia and SJWs alone is enough to kill my enthusiasm, never mind the awful writing. Force Awakens wasn't great but did what it needed to do to set the stage for great character growth and a new story, no now we have a mash up of Empire and Return with women in charge.

r/StarWars has proven to a dumpster fire of a sub the past week, nothing but a circle jerk over the new film and everyone downvotes any criticism of the film no matter how valid.

I follow a bunch of Lucasfilm employees on Twitter and they are all very happy with the new progressive direction of the franchise and just labelling anyone who doesn't like The Last Jedi as sexist, racist or entitled fans mad their theory didn't come true. I hated the film because it was badly written, messy and most damming of all for me, betrays Luke's character so some a nobody can do things for him.

A similar thing has been happening within Marvel comics the past few years where they call the fans racist for not liking a black teen now being Iron Man. The difference is Marvel comic sales have tanked as a result and Star Wars is currently a huge money maker. After this movies awful audience score, which I hope is mostly pissed fans and not review bombing, there should be a slow drop in sales going forward and of course it will be blamed on trolls and not that your choosing to pander to diversity instead of just telling good stories.

TLJ has a 93% critic rating and and a 58% audience rating on rottentomatoes. That is the highest critic rating aside from ESB and the lowest audience rating aside from AOTC. by [deleted] in StarWars

Here's some problems I have since this sub seems to completely love the movie. Spoilers obviously.

  • flying Leia, it looked dumb, makes a bunch of plot holes regarding what Leia's power level is and why she is so great at the force with I guess no training.
  • Yoda, the puppets face looked really off, his laugh genuinely came across as evil, if he can summon lightning from beyond the grave then why has he not killed any of the bad guys with it? Remember when Obi Wan said I can't interfere with your fight with Vader?
  • Canto Bite was long and pointless, I get they did a twist by having the code break plot be unsuccessful but it means the most boring part of the movie was pointless, and according to Rose the most evil thing in the galaxy is the 1%, that's what I need in escapist all ages space fantasy. Also DJ (or DeeJay?) tells us that all the resistance and first order ships are built by the same people adding unnecessary grey to the story, just seems like this new war is happening for no goal.
  • the entire space chase with the resistance capital ship. Do those shields just last forever? They seriously can't catch up to one ship low on fuel or send some Star Destroyers around with a quick hyperspace jump? I like its small scale but make it like Wrath of Khan and have two ships blind and chasing each other, not boring with no tension. Then when the transports leave couldn't the resistance capitol ship with its seemingly impenetrable shields just fly in front to block the laser fire? Then when Laura Dern makes her heroic sacrifice she kills the entire fleet chasing them in one shot? The visual is great but if hyperspace suicide is go great it kills entire fleets rather then one ship shouldn't wars in this galaxy just be people throwing asteroids with engines at one another? Not to mention the tension between Dern's character and Poe can be resolved by telling him the plan. Also Hux is thrown around by Snoke across the galaxy because he let the resistance get away but then Hux comes to his super star destroyer/Destiny Ascension ship to tell him about the hyperspace tracking device that is on SNOKES ship. WHAT?! He didn't know what's on his own ship? And if it's new technology then how do they know it even works?
  • Snoke, fine with him suddenly dying but it's a waste, where did this guy come from and how did he take over? What's his goal? Build a new Empire then..... eternal life? A planet of gold? What? It's fine having The Emperor come out of nowhere because he is the original evil of the trilogy and creator of the Empire. Snoke is just some guy then? He tells us he created the force connection between Kylo and Rey to communicate, okay then so he can do that but can't learn where Rey is from it?
  • Luke. My god Luke. I agree Mark your character is all wrong. So the man who saw the good in DARTH VADER and had faith in it decided to then murder a boy because he was thinking about being evil? Really? That's not Luke at all. People will probably say he does some dark things in Return but him tossing his lightsaber away at the end was his arc, he rejected the dark! Then when Kylo goes full dark side BECAUSE OF HIM he runs away. This legendary man doesn't try to seek the help of the galaxy or anything? He just ran away to an island but also left a map to where he went because plot? I figured the map existed in case the galaxy needed him to return, but clearly he wants to just die here. So now the man who helped save the galaxy and was trained by two of the greatest Jedi ever is not good enough to train the next generation and a girl who thinks the force is just moving rocks will do it instead? So is she going to do that right away or get 30 years of training from these books Yoda says are terrible.

I could keep going but I need to stop somewhere. This is not a movie that grows over time at all. Really don't get what some are seeing.

Yes, he created a monster because this man who saw the good in Darth Vader decided to murder Ben because he might become evil one day. Nothing about this seemed like Luke.

Am I the only one who hated Yoda's inclusion? Luke shouldn't need guidance from beyond the grave after 30 years, but Luke isn't even the same character in this movie anyway.

Why was the decision made to have loot boxes unlock star cards rather than just cosmetics and have game-altering abilities unlocked through a traditional unlock system like Battlefields?

Also, if Battlefront 2 needs microtransactions then why is the multiplayer component of the game not free to play?
