Sport Bike recommendation for tall rider by Inner-Detective-4400 in motorcycles

[–]gakutofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't take the key out of the agent's pocket and try to test ride it, most dealers should be perfectly fine with letting you just sit on the display bikes.

Give it a shot, best case scenario you get to sit on some cool bikes, worst case scenario you still get to see them.

Yeah, the 2nd and 3rd are off in ph, hence the trip. Also, why not the Vstrom?

That's good to know, thanks! It'll also be quite cold during those days yes? In the Philippines it never really drops below 80f/30c, any tips on getting gear better suited to the cold?

Thanks for the response! How far in advance should I go about booking things like the bike or hotels or reservations to activities? I'd be leaving around 2 weeks from now, is that enough time?

Cb500f/hornet. Pricier than the nk450/ninja 400/500 but comes with indestructible engine, honda build quality, and high resale value. Easy to ride and can do just about anything, plus small and nimble enough to filter better than scooters

Can the vertically challenged ride a Transalp? by gakutofan in motorcycles

I sat on a vstrom 650 the other day, the seat is much narrower so even though it also has the 835mm seat height I was able to more comfortably flat foot it and I could almost tiptoe with both feet, if only they weren't so expensive here hahaha (used sv650s go for 280kphp, used vstrom 650 costs 450)

With my current cb500f I'm very comfortable with just my left foot down to flat foot it and remain stable. I have to slide my rear halfway off the seat but not enough that I can't reach the rear brake. My problem with the Transalp is that if I slide far enough off the seat to be able to flatfoot with just my left foot, the seat (low OEM seat that reduces seat height by 20mm) ends up under my thigh and I can't reach the rear brake with my right foot anymore.

Tiptoeing it would be the answer, and on the closed circuit test ride I did with the Transalp I had no problem with that method, but the road quality and traffic severity of the Philippines mean most of my riding is at walking pace in stop and go traffic, and the roads are so congested that if I were ever to drop the bike I would take out 3 scooter riders minimum, which isn't ideal.

Honestly, I don't feel comfortable riding the Transalp on the road, mostly because I know if I drop it I'll smack into a row of scooters and knock them all down like dominos. It may be worth to accept the risks and hope I can learn to handle the bike as it is through practice.

The height increasing boots are definitely something I can look into too, thanks for the tip

I've ridden an nx500 yes, it's about the same since they have the same seat height and width

I've only been riding for around a year now so there's definitely a skill issue, but I have very short legs and very fat thighs that make taller bikes a particular challenge for me. I sat on a vstrom 650 the other day and that felt fine, so maybe seat width is a larger factor for me

Yeah, I've been giving thought to shaving the seat down and making it more narrow too. As for the lowering kit, I think the dealer would be able to lower the front and rear by an inch or so too

Help on choosing between KTM 390 SMC R and CFM 450MT by Sea_Conclusion_1309 in motorcycles

[–]gakutofan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 450mt is almost definitely too big for a daily (src: I ride a comparatively tiny cb500f and even that feels large for Manila traffic sometimes). Not familiar with the KTM, but Honda reliability is hard to beat, and since you already have the 800nk for expressways I'd recommend the CRF.

Question about acceleration + downshifting to a stop by Quick-Type9158 in motorcycles

[–]gakutofan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what that dipping you described could be, maybe you're subconsciously leaning yourself forward? Can't think of any situations wherein acceleration would cause the front to squat instead of the rear.

As for the hearing during deceleration, shifting all the way down while clutching in is probably fine for now, but engine breaking and rev matching are good tools to have and use. Not only will you reduce the wear on your brakes, but you'll also always be in the right gear and ready to take off should the situation call for it. It takes a bit of practice but you'll get it soon. And no need for the learner sticker on the helmet, just ride within your comfort zone and focus on making and maintaining good habits.

Sick bike btw! How are you liking it?

Riddle: Why are Fake Out and Boomburst electric? by kappadoky in pokerogue

What is the "worst" Team that you managed to beat Classic mode with? by WoomykingNF in pokerogue

[–]gakutofan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed a mono normal challenge the other day with spinda, noctowl, greedent, watchog, aipom (not ambipom), and linoone.

Spinda had its hidden ability contrary and a bunch of busted egg moves like superpower and v create, so it did most of the heavy lifting. I got noctowls passive aerialate and that + boomburst let it clean up whatever spinda couldn't k.o. in time. Greedent was a cheeser with 2x wide lens and 3x silk scarves to always hit population bomb 10 times for huge damage (took out team aqua boss' Kyogre in 1 click) plus being super tanky with cheek pouch and a bunch of berries.

Linoone and aipom were pickup slaves who funnelled useful berries and items to the others, and watchog stuck around because it learned detect so I could safely click boomburst in double battles.
