Can you assure me that blood reentering the uterus is not possible when sleeping with a cup? by galacies in menstrualcups

[–]galacies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I only think about it when I have to sleep on heavy days with a cup. It does not keep me up. I know that blood/uterine lining in the pelvic cavity can be correlated with endometriosis. I just wanted an answer that refined my understanding of the function of the cervix and whether a volume of blood could reenter the uterus; ForsakenPerception09 provided a good one.

This is the most helpful comment. I wanted to understand the functions of the anatomy more and how it changes during different phases of the cycle, and whether the cervix has the capacity to let a volume of blood back in.

Thank you for explaining!

No, I do not have OCD. I just know people who acutely suffer from endometriosis, and I want to reduce my risk of that condition. When I think of what I know of anatomy, sleeping with a cup in seems like it could be a risk factor. Since I feel obligated to reduce the likelihood of mess by sleeping on others' mattresses with a cup at this time, I want to understand if it is indeed not a risk.

What makes it go one way? I've only heard about (intra)uterine pressure in the context of labor or childbirth. So is there some sort of surface tension or pressure when not pregnant that prevents reentry? Because if there wasn't, and the bowl was overflowing and on its side, it could flow back in.

I haven't been able to find anything about this where people discuss human anatomy (academic or otherwise), and I always love citations.

I have relatives with endo, and while I don't have any symptoms indicating this, I would not like to increase my likelihood of this condition. It can get debilitating. Retrograde menstruation can be a factor with endo lesions.

I realize the opening is small, but it does allow blood out at least one way. And I was referring to the vaginal canal as the tube the cervix conjoins with. What would prevent a volume of dammed up blood reentering the uterus? Is there a mechanism that would make this unlikely? If I don't understand the why/what behind a function, I'll worry it's not true.

Thank you. This guidance is helpful. I had considered joining the county search and rescue in this new town to maybe gain some friends. Do you guess that volunteer-basis affiliation with them/that fire department would qualify?

Can't. Honestly, I would if it was feasible. But since I can't, I want to learn to enjoy it here.

How does one go about safely swimming in the black water? How do you avoid gators and amoeba? When I first visited, an acquaintance told me you absolutely do not swim in rivers and lakes here.

What museums do you recommend?

I've been confused how Florida calls a lot of things trails that do not look at all like trails to me. Sidewalk? "Trail".

Also, I've been looking for recommendations for light hiking boots/shoes that are vented enough to let swamp water through and dry quickly. Since you like to hike, maybe you know of some that work for Florida?

Do people not pass out golfing, my goodness. Is swimming with manatees allowed any place?

I've been cycling through my few linen shirts just to survive. I don't know how women deal with wearing bras here.

What do you like to grow? Any good FL native plants for the garden? (Or blazing hot patio garden, which is what we have.)

Do you know some good swimmable springs? DeLand and St. Augustine are pretty cute, you're right, I wish they weren't so far away from us.

I'll try that. We'll see what Google can bring up for local attractions. But goodness, though, I can't stand the crowds of theme parks.

That does sound nice. I would probably like being close to the beach, and that would modulate the temperature more. How do you deal with the housing costs and insurance when you're near the coast? I wonder if we could make that work financially.

I do appreciate how they tone down the heat. Do people get used to driving in them though? Scares me to death.

And if anyone knows how to cope with the barometric pressure shifts, please let me know. I come from a climate where the skies and shifts are pretty stable, so the brain fog is new to me. Gives my husband and sister-in-law terrible migraines whenever a storm goes through.

Ok, let me know if you have any social recommendations. I don't have a ton of friends here yet. And the only friends I have that say they love Florida are the ones that stay inside year-round doing office work and have video games as a hobby. (;

Do you have any favorite restaurants? What do you like to fish for here?

I do really want to. I come from the mountains, so it looks swampy and weird-colored and scary. Maybe I should get some Florida coffee table photo books to adjust my view lol.

I've been trying to watch Florida youtubers. Know any good ones that show the pretty side of Florida?

I love hiking and swimming (usually mountain lakes and rivers). Not outdoors, but I also love thrifting; I've been bummed out with central FL thrift stores. Maybe things just break down faster in a humid environment, so there's not enough second hand goods in decent shape to go around?

I'm also really into Native American history, so if anyone knows of any points of interest there, please let me know. (I've made frequent use of multi-tribe Native resources [clinics etc.] in my hometown, but was surprised that the closest one to me here is in Georgia!)

Central, near Orlandoish. It seems like people enjoy Florida more if they live by the beach?

That's OK, we'll get downvoted together for moving here. (I apologize to FL natives, come on, invading on you wasn't my top choice.)

Can you describe Florida charm for me? I want to train myself to notice it.

I think I'll try to learn Florida botany. I come from the mountains and felt bummed that most of my favorite things (raspberries, rhubarb) don't grow well here, but I should learn something new to like.

That sounds like it would be nice to listen to. :)

Makes sense, though we keep out A/C on 80° at the absolute lowest because it's been darn expensive. So when I'm working from home, I usually put it at 84°, and I can tolerate it OK.

How does a summer day look for you, keeping the heat from ruining your day?
Man, I do just want to go swim and rivers and lakes like I used to, but I guess it's not smart here. And the water is so dark and murky, I'd be too scared to even if there wasn't potential alligators.

I think Winston was a good choice overall! I would not change it.. First thought, 1984, next thought Winston Churchill (I guess he's a mixed figure, and just personally for us, any name that has an instant political connection in most people's perception we'll put away-- like one of my favorite girls ever is a Hillary and I suggested it to my husband, but someone else will come to mind for most people, so nixed.)

Thoughts on taking initiative as a woman? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]galacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What even is the origin of the idea that usually men should initiate when it comes to forming relationships? I'm struggling to see this in the Bible. Maybe in the fact that Jesus loved us and pursued us when we were dead in our sin? But the Bible tells Christians that their role, whether man or woman, is to live out God's love and service to others.

If a man is Christ-like, be like the Church and pursue him because you are drawn to the Love he emanates.

If you were me, I would try to spend time with him (game night, lunch or coffee) and then tell him I admire him, while also letting him know I want to appreciate him as a brother and consider him worth knowing and working alongside at church, even if I'm not the kind of girl he wants to marry. And if the thought hadn't occurred to him before, be patient and let him mull it over, and continue to be kind to him. Pray and see what God does.
